## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## Wellfound (AngelList Talent) Jobs Scraper

Scrape startup job listings from [wellfound.com](https://wellfound.com) by role
and location: **title, company, salary range, locations, remote status, job
type, posting date, company size and badges** (Y Combinator, unicorn valuation,
actively hiring, top investors) — one clean JSON row per job.

### Why this scraper

- **Pay per job, nothing else.** $3 per 1,000 listings. Failed requests are
  free. No subscription.
- **Salary data included** — most listings carry Wellfound's compensation range,
  a field most job boards hide.
- **Company intelligence built in** — every job comes with the startup's size,
  one-line pitch, and badges (YC, VALUATION\_1B, ACTIVELY\_HIRING…), so you can
  filter for funded, hiring companies without extra lookups.
- **Respects your budget.** Set a maximum charge per run and the scraper stops
  exactly at what your budget pays for.
- **Agent-ready.** Clean JSON, one event per result — built for AI-agent and
  MCP workflows as well as humans.

### Input

| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `role` | `software-engineer` | Role slug from wellfound.com/role/... |
| `location` | `san-francisco` | Optional location slug |
| `maxResults` | `100` | Stop after this many jobs |

```json
{ "role": "product-manager", "location": "new-york", "maxResults": 100 }
```

Common role slugs: `software-engineer`, `product-manager`, `designer`,
`sales`, `marketing`, `data-scientist`, `devops-engineer`.

### Output

```json
{
    "title": "Software Engineer",
    "company": "Checkr",
    "companySize": "501-1000",
    "companyPitch": "The only background check company using AI and ML",
    "companyBadges": ["ACTIVELY_HIRING", "YC", "VALUATION_1B", "TOP_INVESTORS"],
    "compensation": "$150k – $176k",
    "jobType": "full-time",
    "locations": ["Denver", "San Francisco"],
    "remote": false,
    "postedAt": "2026-08-27",
    "url": "https://wellfound.com/jobs/4639821-software-engineer",
    "companyUrl": "https://wellfound.com/company/checkr"
}
```

### Common uses

- **Recruiting & sourcing** — track which funded startups are hiring for what,
  with salary benchmarks.
- **Job aggregators & alerts** — feed niche job boards or Slack/email digests.
- **Sales intelligence** — hiring velocity is a buying signal; badge + size
  filters find companies in growth mode.
- **Salary research** — real posted compensation ranges by role and market.

### Pricing

|---|---|
| Per job listing | $0.003 ($3 per 1,000) |
| Actor start | $0.005 |
