## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper - Fast, No Browser

Get Google Trends data in seconds: **interest over time**, **interest by region**, **related queries (top + rising)**, **comparisons of up to 5 terms**, and **Trending Now** searches for any country with search volume, growth and news.

This Actor talks to Google Trends directly instead of opening a browser for every keyword. That makes it fast (40 searches in under a minute) and cheap, and you only pay per search.

### What you get

| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Interest over time | 0-100 interest for every hour, day, week or month in your range. Averages included. |
| Interest by region | Countries, states, cities or US metro areas (DMA). |
| Related queries | Top and rising queries for every term, including **Breakout** ones. |
| Comparisons | Compare up to 5 terms on one line, exactly like the Google Trends website. |
| Trending Now | Everything trending in a country right now (often 300-700 searches): search volume, % increase, start time, still active or not, category, related searches, and news for the top stories. |
| Filters | Any country or region, any time range (or custom dates), category, and search type: web, images, news, Google Shopping or YouTube. |

### How to use it

1. Add your **search terms**, one per line. To compare terms, put them on one line separated by commas: `iphone, samsung, pixel`.
2. Pick a **country** (`US`, `IN`, `GB`...) or leave it empty for worldwide.
3. Pick a **time range**.
4. Optional: add countries under **Trending now**.
5. Click **Start**. Download results as JSON, CSV, Excel, or use the API.

Want it in a spreadsheet? Set **Output format** to *One row per data point*. Every date, region and related query becomes its own row.

### Input example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["chatgpt", "iphone, samsung"],
  "geo": "IN",
  "timeRange": "today 3-m",
  "trendingNowGeos": ["US", "IN"]
}
```

### Output example

One item per search (trimmed, real output):

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["chatgpt"],
  "geo": "IN",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "trendsUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=chatgpt&date=today%2012-m&geo=IN",
  "interestOverTime": [
    { "date": "2025-11-02", "timestamp": 1762041600, "isPartial": false, "values": { "chatgpt": 79 } }
  ],
  "averages": { "chatgpt": 76 },
  "interestByRegion": [
    { "geoCode": "IN-PY", "geoName": "Puducherry", "values": { "chatgpt": 100 } }
  ],
  "relatedQueries": {
    "chatgpt": {
      "top": [
        { "query": "ai chatgpt", "value": 100, "formattedValue": "100" },
        { "query": "chatgpt login", "value": 74, "formattedValue": "74" }
      ],
      "rising": [
        { "query": "1980s photo prompt chatgpt", "value": 5750, "formattedValue": "Breakout" },
        { "query": "1980s ai photo prompt chatgpt", "value": 2300, "formattedValue": "+2,300%" }
      ]
    }
  },
  "scrapedAt": "2026-11-03T13:52:05Z"
}
```

In a comparison (`iphone, samsung`), every point and region has one value per term:

```json
{ "date": "2026-08-03", "values": { "iphone": 26, "samsung": 13 } }
{ "geoCode": "IN-PB", "geoName": "Punjab", "values": { "iphone": 67, "samsung": 33 } }
```

A Trending Now item:

```json
{
  "type": "trendingNow",
  "title": "us midterm elections results",
  "geo": "IN",
  "searchVolume": 50000,
  "increasePercent": 1000,
  "startedAt": "2026-11-03T02:10:00Z",
  "isActive": true,
  "categories": ["Politics"],
  "relatedQueries": ["us election results", "midterm elections 2026", "donald trump"],
  "news": [],
  "exploreUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=us%20midterm%20elections%20results&geo=IN&date=now%201-d"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **Per search** (one line of search terms, up to 5 compared terms): see the Pricing tab.
- **Per Trending Now search** returned: see the Pricing tab.

Platform usage is included, so there is nothing else to pay for. You can set a maximum cost per run, and the Actor stops when it is reached.

### Use cases

- **SEO and content**: find rising and breakout queries before your competitors.
- **E-commerce**: check seasonality and which states want your product.
- **Market research**: compare brands, products or candidates over time.
- **News and social media**: catch what is trending in any country right now.
- **Data science**: feed clean time series into dashboards and models.

### FAQ

**Why are the numbers 0-100?**
Google Trends shows relative interest, not raw search counts. 100 is the peak for the selected terms, place and time. In comparisons, all terms share the same scale. For interest by region in comparisons, Google returns each term's share in that region.

**Where are related topics?**
Google does not return related topics to automated tools, so this Actor gives related queries only.

**Why does my search have no data?**
Google hides data for terms with very low search volume. Try a broader term, a bigger region or a longer time range.

**Is it legal to scrape Google Trends?**
This Actor only collects publicly available, aggregated Google Trends data. It does not collect personal data. Check that your use case follows the laws and terms that apply to you.

**Something broke or you need a feature?**
Open an issue in the Issues tab. I usually reply within a day.
