## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews Scraper: ratings and reviews from every country

Scrape **Apple App Store reviews** for any iPhone or iPad app, in **one country or all ~175 storefronts at once**. Each review comes with its star rating, title, full text, app version, helpful votes and date. You can also get a **per-country app summary**: average rating, rating count, current version and release notes, price, genre and size.

No login, no API key, no Apple developer account. You can use an app's App Store link, its numeric ID, or just its name.

### What data you get

**Reviews** (`type: "review"`)

- Star rating (1–5), title and full review text
- App version the review was written for
- Helpful votes (`voteSum` out of `voteCount`)
- Review date (ISO 8601) and the reviewer's public nickname
- Country storefront, and which list the review came from (most recent or most helpful)

**App summary per country** (`type: "app"`, optional)

- Average rating and rating count, overall and for the current version
- Current version, its release date and release notes, and the first release date
- Developer, bundle ID, price and currency, genre, content rating, minimum iOS, size, supported languages, icon

#### Sample review

```json
{
  "type": "review",
  "appId": "570060128",
  "appName": "Duolingo: Sprachen und Schach",
  "country": "de",
  "reviewId": "9905044057",
  "rating": 5,
  "title": "Gut aber Verbesserungsfähig.",
  "text": "Ich lerne ca. seit einem Jahr mit Duolingo Spanisch und English…",
  "appVersion": "6.211.0",
  "voteSum": 2,
  "voteCount": 3,
  "reviewedAt": "2023-05-08T10:10:39.000Z",
  "sortedBy": "mostHelpful"
}
```

### How to use

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `apps` | App Store URLs, numeric IDs, or app names (the top search result is used) | required |
| `countries` | Two-letter store codes: `us`, `gb`, `de`, `fr`, `jp`, `br`… | `["us"]` |
| `allCountries` | Every storefront (~175), ignoring the list above | off |
| `sort` | `mostRecent`, `mostHelpful`, or `both` (both lists merged without duplicates, for more coverage) | `mostRecent` |
| `maxReviewsPerCountry` | Per app and country. Apple serves up to 500 per sort order | 100 |
| `minRating` / `maxRating` | Keep only certain stars, e.g. `maxRating: 2` for complaints only | 1 / 5 |
| `onlyNewerThan` | Skip reviews before a date: ideal for daily or weekly monitoring | none |
| `includeAppDetails` | Save the per-country app summary records | on |
| `maxItems` | Total cap on saved items | 1,000 |

**Examples**

- **Competitor research:** paste 5 competitors, choose `allCountries`, set `maxRating: 2`, and get every complaint in every market.
- **Release monitoring:** schedule a daily run with your app, `onlyNewerThan` set to yesterday, `sort: mostRecent`.
- **Localisation check:** compare `averageRating` per country from the app summary records.

### Pricing

**$0.40 per 1,000 items** (reviews or app summaries), i.e. $0.0004 each. 10,000 reviews cost $4.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?**
Apple's official public endpoints: the App Store customer-review feeds and the iTunes Search/Lookup API. No website scraping, no login and no rate-limit dodging. Requests are paced to Apple's published limits.

**Why at most 500 reviews per country?**
Apple's feeds stop at 10 pages of 50. To get more:

- use `sort: both`, which adds the most-helpful list
- add more countries, since each storefront has its own reviews
- schedule regular runs with `onlyNewerThan` to keep a complete history from now on

**Do you collect personal data?**
Only the public nickname the reviewer chose to show on the App Store. No emails, no real names, no device data.

**Google Play?**
Not included. Google's robots.txt disallows automated access to the Play review endpoints, so we don't touch them.

**Integrations / API**
Run it on a schedule, export to CSV, Excel or JSON, or call it from Make, Zapier, n8n or your own code through the Apify API. Filter on the `type` field to separate reviews from app summaries.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

App Store URLs (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/.../id1232780281), numeric app IDs (1232780281), or app names to search for (the top App Store result is used).

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter App Store country codes, e.g. us, gb, de, fr, jp, br. Each country's store has its own reviews.

## `allCountries` (type: `boolean`):

Scrape every App Store storefront (about 175). Overrides the country list.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Apple serves up to 500 reviews per country per sort order. 'Both' combines the two lists for more coverage.

## `maxReviewsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Per app and country. Apple's feeds stop at 500 per sort order.

## `minRating` (type: `integer`):

Only keep reviews with at least this many stars.

## `maxRating` (type: `integer`):

Only keep reviews with at most this many stars, e.g. 2 to collect complaints only.

## `onlyNewerThan` (type: `string`):

Skip reviews older than this date (YYYY-MM-DD). Useful for daily or weekly monitoring.

## `includeAppDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Also save one 'app' record per country: average rating, rating count, current version, release notes, price, genre, size and more.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many items (reviews plus app summaries) in total.
