Search **US tax-exempt organizations** from IRS 990 filings with enriched, normalized data. Built on the **ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer API** — **free, no API key required**. Covers ~1.8M registered nonprofits with full-text search by name, keyword, or EIN.

### What This Actor Does

- Searches nonprofits by name, keyword, or EIN (direct EIN lookup supported)
- **Normalizes organization names** — strips legal suffixes (Inc, Corp, Foundation, LLC), leading "The", cleans whitespace and title-cases
- **Deduplicates entities by EIN** — every spelling variant of an org collapses to one canonical record
- **Classifies NTEE codes** — maps 400+ NTEE codes and major groups to human-readable categories (Environment, Health Care, Grantmaking Foundations, etc.)
