## Pricing

from $10.00 / 1,000 tool calls

This Actor is paid per event and usage. You are charged both the fixed price for specific events and for Apify platform usage.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store & Podcast MCP Server

An [MCP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (Model Context Protocol) server that gives AI agents
live access to the **Apple App Store** and **Apple Podcasts**. It runs as an Apify
**Standby** Actor and speaks MCP over **Streamable HTTP**, so any MCP-compatible client
(Claude Desktop, Cursor, your own agent) can call its tools.

All data comes from Apple's **public, unauthenticated** endpoints — the iTunes Search &
Lookup API and public RSS feeds (app reviews and podcast feeds). No login, no scraping
behind auth.

### Connection URL

```
https://wearefluent--appstore-podcast-mcp.apify.actor/mcp
```

- `POST /mcp` — MCP JSON-RPC 2.0 (`initialize`, `tools/list`, `tools/call`). Responds with `application/json`.
- `GET /` — short plain-text description.

Append your Apify API token with `?token=<APIFY_TOKEN>` (or send it as a Bearer header)
so the Standby Actor can start on demand.

### Tools

| Tool | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `app_search(term, country='us', limit=10)` | Search the App Store for apps (iTunes Search API, `media=software`). |
| `app_lookup(appId, country='us')` | Look up one app by numeric id or App Store URL (iTunes Lookup API). |
| `app_reviews(appId, country='us', limit=50)` | Recent customer reviews from Apple's public RSS reviews feed (most recent first, up to 200). |
| `podcast_search(term, country='us', limit=10)` | Search Apple Podcasts for shows (iTunes Search API, `media=podcast`). Returns the RSS `feedUrl`. |
| `podcast_episodes(feedUrl \| podcastId, country='us', limit=20)` | Episodes for a show. A `podcastId` is resolved to its RSS feed via iTunes Lookup, then the feed is parsed (up to 200 episodes). |

Each tool returns a JSON text block: `{ "tool", "count", "results": [ ...rows ] }`.

### Use with Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop speaks MCP over stdio, so bridge to this HTTP server with
[`mcp-remote`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/mcp-remote). Add to
`claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "appstore-podcast": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://wearefluent--appstore-podcast-mcp.apify.actor/mcp?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

### Use with any MCP / HTTP client

```bash
## initialize
curl -s -X POST "https://wearefluent--appstore-podcast-mcp.apify.actor/mcp?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"initialize","params":{"protocolVersion":"2025-06-18","capabilities":{},"clientInfo":{"name":"curl","version":"1.0"}}}'
## list tools
curl -s -X POST "https://wearefluent--appstore-podcast-mcp.apify.actor/mcp?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"tools/list"}'
## call a tool
curl -s -X POST "https://wearefluent--appstore-podcast-mcp.apify.actor/mcp?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":3,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"app_search","arguments":{"term":"slack","limit":5}}}'
```

### Pricing

**Pay per event.** You are charged **$0.01 per successful tool call** (a `tool-call`
event). Calls that return zero results or error are **not** charged.

### Notes

- Apple caps the app-reviews RSS feed at 500 reviews per storefront (10 pages × 50).
- `country` is a two-letter ISO-3166 storefront code (e.g. `us`, `gb`, `de`).

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("wearefluent/appstore-podcast-mcp").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
```

## MCP server setup

```json
The hosted server signs you in with OAuth on first connect, so no API token belongs in this config. Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
