## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## AI Search Brand Visibility Tracker (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini)

Track **LLM brand visibility**: find out whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini recommend **your brand** when people ask them for advice, how often they mention your **competitors** instead, and which **websites the AI cites** as sources. One run, all three engines, a ready share-of-voice report.

### What it does

1. You enter the questions your buyers ask AI assistants, for example *"best CRM for small agencies"*.
2. The Actor asks **ChatGPT** (OpenAI with web search), **Perplexity** (Sonar) and **Gemini** (Google Search grounding) each question, live, with web search turned on.
3. Every answer is analysed:
   - is your brand mentioned, how many times, and in which **position** compared to competitors;
   - is **your website cited** as a source;
   - which competitors are mentioned and in what order;
   - which domains the AI relies on (Reddit, review sites, app stores, blogs).
4. You get a dataset with one row per answer, plus a **summary** and an **HTML report** with share of voice per engine and the list of prompts where your brand is missing.

### Why it matters

People increasingly ask AI assistants instead of searching on Google. If ChatGPT recommends three tools and yours is not one of them, you lose that buyer without ever knowing. This Actor makes that visible and measurable, so you can track **Generative Engine Optimization (GEO / AEO)** progress over time.

### Input

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Prompts | `best project management tool for small agencies` |
| Brand | `ClickUp` |
| Brand aliases | `Click Up` |
| Brand domains | `clickup.com` |
| Competitors | `Asana \| asana.com`, `Monday.com \| monday.com \| monday` |
| Engines | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini |
| Repeats per prompt | `3` (AI answers vary, repeats show how stable your visibility is) |
| Answer language | `German` (optional) |

### Output

Each dataset item:

```json
{
  "prompt": "best motorcycle route planner app for adventure riding",
  "engine": "Perplexity",
  "brandMentioned": true,
  "brandPosition": 2,
  "brandCited": true,
  "brandsInOrder": ["Kurviger", "Calimoto", "Scenic"],
  "competitors": [{ "name": "Kurviger", "mentioned": true, "position": 1, "cited": false }],
  "citedDomains": ["calimoto.com", "reddit.com", "apps.apple.com"],
  "brandContext": "...calimoto is best for curvy and scenic road riding...",
  "answer": "full AI answer text",
  "citations": [{ "position": 1, "url": "https://...", "domain": "calimoto.com" }]
}
```

Key-value store:

- `SUMMARY`: share of voice, mention rate, average position, first-place rate and citation rate for every brand, per engine and overall, plus the most cited domains;
- `REPORT`: the same as a readable HTML page you can send to a client.

### Pricing

Two parts, both pay-as-you-go:

1. **Analysis**: a flat fee per analysed AI answer. One prompt asked on three engines is three answers. Failed requests are not charged.
2. **AI usage at cost**: the AI providers' own price, billed to your Apify account through Apify's official OpenRouter proxy, with no markup and no extra accounts. Typical cost per answer: Perplexity about $0.005, ChatGPT about $0.03, Gemini about $0.03. Note that Apify charges Free plan users more for AI usage, so a paid plan is much cheaper for regular tracking.

You can also add your own OpenRouter API key to pay the AI providers directly.

### FAQ

**How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my brand?** Add the questions your buyers ask, your brand and a few competitors. The Actor asks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini each question with web search on and reports whether you are mentioned, in what position, and whether your site is cited.

**Is this a ChatGPT scraper or a Perplexity scraper?** It goes one step further: it collects the answers from all three engines in one run and turns them into GEO / AEO metrics (share of voice, mention rate, first-place rate, citation rate). The full answer text and citations are included, so you can use it as a multi-engine AI answer scraper too.

**What is GEO / AEO?** Generative Engine Optimization (also called Answer Engine Optimization or LLM SEO) is the work of getting your brand mentioned and cited in AI answers. You cannot improve what you do not measure; this Actor is the measuring part.

**Why do results change between runs?** AI assistants give different answers to the same question. Use Repeats per prompt of 3 or more and track trends weekly. A schedule in Apify makes this automatic.

**Which websites should I target to get mentioned?** Check `topCitedDomains` in the summary: these are the sources the AI relies on for your topic (often Reddit, review sites and niche blogs).

### Use cases

- **SEO and GEO agencies**: monthly AI visibility reports for clients.
- **SaaS and e-commerce brands**: track whether AI assistants recommend you or your competitors.
- **Content teams**: find which sources AI cites in your niche and get featured there.
- **AI agents**: call the Actor through the Apify MCP server to check brand visibility on demand.

### Notes

- Answers come from the providers' official APIs with web search, not from scraping the consumer apps, so runs are stable and do not break when a website changes. API answers can differ slightly from what a logged-in user sees in the app.
- Use **Repeats per prompt** of 3 or more for decisions: AI recommendations change between requests.

# Actor input Schema

## `prompts` (type: `array`):

Questions your potential customers ask AI assistants, one per line. Example: "best CRM for small agencies".

## `brand` (type: `string`):

The brand to track, as people write it.

## `brandAliases` (type: `array`):

Other spellings or product names that count as a mention of your brand.

## `brandDomains` (type: `array`):

Your websites. Used to detect when the AI cites your site as a source. Example: clickup.com

## `competitors` (type: `array`):

One competitor per line in the format: Name | domain.com | alias1; alias2. Domain and aliases are optional.

## `engines` (type: `array`):

Which assistants to ask. Each answer is billed separately.

## `runsPerPrompt` (type: `integer`):

AI answers change from one request to the next. Ask each prompt several times to measure how stable your visibility is.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Optional. For example "German". Leave empty to let the AI answer in the language of the prompt.

## `openRouterApiKey` (type: `string`):

Optional. By default AI usage is billed to your Apify account at cost through Apify's OpenRouter proxy. Add your own OpenRouter key to pay the AI providers directly instead.
