## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper & API: Trending Now, Interest, Regions

Get **Google Trends** data for any keyword, country and time range: **interest over time**, **interest by country, region or city**, **related queries** (top and rising), **related topics**, and a ready **trend summary** (rising, falling or stable, change in %, peak date). Built for reliability: when Google rate-limits a request, the Actor switches to a fresh IP and session and tries again, and **you pay only for results that are actually delivered**.

**Two modes in one Actor:**

- **Trending now**: today's trending searches for any country (the feed behind trends.google.com/trending) with approximate search volume, start time and related news articles.
- **Keyword analysis**: interest over time, interest by region, related and rising queries for any keyword, compared or one by one.

A practical **Google Trends API** alternative: Google has no public Trends API, and libraries like **pytrends** break on rate limits (HTTP 429). This Actor handles the retries for you.

### What you get for each keyword

| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Trend summary | `trend` (rising / falling / stable), `changePercent` (last quarter of the period vs the first), `latestValue`, `averageValue`, `peakValue`, `peakDate` |
| Interest over time | Every point of the Google Trends chart: date, value 0-100, partial-period flag |
| Interest by region | Countries (worldwide), states / regions, cities or US metro areas, sorted by interest |
| Related queries | Top queries and rising queries with growth such as `+300%` or `Breakout` |
| Related topics | Top and rising topics with type and Knowledge Graph ID, when Google has enough data |

Works for **Web search, YouTube search, News, Images and Google Shopping**, any **category**, any **country or sub-region** (for example `US-CA`), and all time ranges from the past hour to 2004-present, including custom date ranges.

### Compare mode

Turn on **Compare terms with each other** to put up to 5 keywords on one chart, exactly like the Compare button on trends.google.com. Values are then relative to each other, so you can see which keyword wins and by how much.

### Input example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["electric bike", "ebike"],
  "compareTerms": true,
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "includeInterestOverTime": true,
  "includeInterestByRegion": true,
  "includeRelatedQueries": true,
  "includeRelatedTopics": true
}
```

### Output example

}
```
### FAQ
**Is there an official Google Trends API?** Google has announced a Trends API in limited alpha, but there is no open public API. This Actor uses the same data the trends.google.com website shows.
**Is this a pytrends alternative?** Yes. pytrends often fails with "429 Too Many Requests". Here every rate-limited request is retried with a fresh IP and session, and failed keywords are never charged.
**Are the numbers search volumes?** No. Google Trends values are relative (0-100). Trending now gives an approximate absolute volume such as "200+" or "50K+".
**Can I run it on a schedule?** Yes. Use Apify Schedules to collect trending searches every hour or day and build your own history.
**Can AI agents use it?** Yes, through the Apify MCP server: an agent can ask "is X trending in Germany?" and get real data.
### Use cases
- **SEO and content teams**: find rising queries before competitors, plan seasonal content around peaks.
- **E-commerce and product research**: check if a product category is growing or fading, and where.
- **Market and investment research**: track interest in brands, products and technologies over years.
- **AI agents**: call the Actor through the Apify MCP server to answer "is X trending?" with real data.
### Pricing
Pay per delivered result: one result = one keyword with all the data you selected. Failed keywords are not charged.
### Notes
- Google Trends values are relative (0-100) to the highest point in the selected period and region, not absolute search volumes.
- For rare keywords Google may return little or no data. The summary then shows `hasData: false`.
- Related topics are sometimes empty on Google Trends itself ("not enough data"); the Actor returns exactly what Google shows.
- Residential proxies give the most reliable results and are used by default.
# Actor input Schema
## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):
Keywords to analyse, one per line. Optional if you only need Trending now.
## `trendingNowCountries` (type: `array`):
Optional. Two-letter country codes (US, GB, DE, IN...) to get today's trending searches from trends.google.com/trending: query, approximate search volume, start time and related news.
## `compareTerms` (type: `boolean`):
On: terms are compared on one chart (up to 5 per comparison, values relative to each other, like the Compare button in Google Trends). Off: each term is analysed on its own.
## `geo` (type: `string`):
Two-letter country code such as US, GB, DE. Leave empty for worldwide. Sub-regions work too, for example US-CA.
## `timeRange` (type: `string`):
Preset period, or choose Custom and fill in the custom range below.
## `customTimeRange` (type: `string`):
Used when Time range is Custom. Format: YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2024-01-01 2024-12-31.
## `category` (type: `integer`):
Google Trends category ID. 0 = all categories. Examples: 7 Finance, 71 Food & Drink, 67 Travel, 958 Jobs.
