## Pricing

from $1.40 / 1,000 domain looked ups

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Lookup: RDAP/WHOIS, Expiry & Availability

RDAP is the official, structured successor of WHOIS. This Actor looks up thousands of domains and returns clean JSON, no fragile WHOIS text parsing.

### Output per domain

| field | meaning |
|---|---|
| `registered`, `available` | registration status (404 at the registry means available) |
| `registrar`, `registrarIanaId` | sponsoring registrar |
| `created`, `updated`, `expires`, `daysToExpiry`, `expiresSoon` | lifecycle dates where the registry publishes them |
| `status` | EPP status codes, e.g. client transfer prohibited |
| `nameservers`, `dnssecSigned` | delegation details |
| `registrantOrganization`, `registrantCountry` | only if published (often redacted under GDPR) |
| `dns` | website IP, MX and NS present |

### Coverage

- All TLDs in the IANA RDAP bootstrap (.com, .net, .org, .io, most new gTLDs and many ccTLDs).
- .de (DENIC) and .ch/.li (SWITCH) added manually. DENIC publishes status and name servers but no dates or holder data.
- TLDs without RDAP (for example .at, .eu) get a DNS-based registered estimate and a note.

### Use cases

- Domain portfolio monitoring and renewal alerts.
- Find available domains for brand or SEO projects.
- Lead qualification: domain age and registrar.

### Pricing

$0.002 per domain looked up. Failed registry lookups are returned with an `error` field and are not charged.

### FAQ

**What am I charged for?** One event per domain in the output. Invalid entries and duplicates are removed before the run and are not charged. If the registry lookup fails, the item still holds the DNS checks and an `error` field and is not charged.

**Where does the data come from?** From the official RDAP service of each registry, found through the IANA RDAP bootstrap file, plus DENIC for .de and SWITCH for .ch and .li. The `dns` field comes from Google DNS over HTTPS.

**Why are dates or the registrant missing?** Registries only return what they publish. DENIC publishes no dates or holder data, and registrant details are often redacted under GDPR. Missing values are `null`.

**Do I need a proxy or an API key?** No. RDAP and DNS over HTTPS are public, and the Actor has no proxy setting.

**How many domains can one run handle?** Up to `maxDomains` (default 10000, at most 100000), with up to 10 lookups at the same time. Keep concurrency low for big lists because registries rate-limit.

### Notes

Registries apply rate limits; the Actor retries once and keeps concurrency low by default.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients through the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp). Add only this Actor:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=webify-lab/domain-rdap-lookup
```

On first use the server signs you in with OAuth. Alternatively send the header `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_TOKEN>`. Agents on the default Apify MCP setup can also find this Actor with `search-actors` and run it with `call-actor`. Pricing is the same as in Apify Console: you pay per result.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domains to look up. URLs are reduced to the domain.

## `expiryWarningDays` (type: `integer`):

Sets expiresSoon when a domain expires within this many days.

## `includeRaw` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the full RDAP response to each item.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Safety limit per run.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Lookups at the same time. Registries rate-limit, keep this low for big lists.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "apify.com",
    "webifysystems.de"
  ],
  "expiryWarningDays": 30,
  "includeRaw": false,
  "maxDomains": 10000,
  "concurrency": 5
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One dataset item per domain: domain, tld, rdapSupported, registered, available, registrar, registrarIanaId, registrantOrganization, registrantCountry, created, updated, expires, daysToExpiry, expiresSoon, status, nameservers, dnssecSigned, clientTransferProhibited, dns (hasWebsiteIp, hasMx, hasNameservers).

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "apify.com",
        "webifysystems.de"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("webify-lab/domain-rdap-lookup").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
