## Pricing

from $7.00 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain & Email Security Check

One run, many domains, a clear security hygiene report for each. Built for IT service providers, agencies and companies preparing for NIS2, cyber insurance questionnaires or customer security audits.

### What is checked

**Email:** SPF (syntax, multiple records, +all/?all/~all/-all, 10-lookup limit), DMARC (policy, reports), DKIM (common selectors), MTA-STS (mode), TLS-RPT, BIMI, MX and null MX

**DNS:** DNSSEC validation, CAA records, name servers

**Web:** HTTPS reachability, http to https redirect, TLS certificate issuer and days until expiry, negotiated TLS version, HSTS, Content-Security-Policy, X-Content-Type-Options, clickjacking protection, Referrer-Policy, server version disclosure, /.well-known/security.txt

### Output

- `score` and `grade` (A to E), plus separate `emailScore`, `webScore`, `dnsScore`
- `topIssues`: the five most important fixes as plain sentences
- `findings`: every check with status pass, warn, fail or info
- `facts`: the raw records found

### Pricing

$0.01 per checked domain.

### FAQ

**What am I charged for?** One event per checked domain. A domain whose check fails comes back as an item with an `error` field and is not charged.

**Where does the data come from?** DNS records are read over DNS over HTTPS (Google, with Cloudflare as fallback). Web checks use normal HTTP requests and one TLS handshake on port 443. No port scanning, no intrusive tests.

**My DKIM selector was not found. Why?** Only about 40 common selectors are tried. Add your own selectors in the `dkimSelectors` input and they are checked as well.

**Do I need a proxy or a login?** No. There is no login and no proxy setting; only public data is used.

**How many domains can one run handle?** Up to `maxDomains` (default 2000, at most 50000), with up to 10 domains checked at the same time. Duplicates and invalid entries are removed first.

### Notes

Only public DNS records, HTTP headers and the TLS handshake are used. No port scanning, no intrusive tests. DKIM can only be checked for common selectors; a custom selector may exist. NIS2 does not prescribe these exact controls; the checks reflect widely recommended baseline practices. Not legal advice.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients through the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp). Add only this Actor:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=webify-lab/domain-security-check
```

On first use the server signs you in with OAuth. Alternatively send the header `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_TOKEN>`. Agents on the default Apify MCP setup can also find this Actor with `search-actors` and run it with `call-actor`. Pricing is the same as in Apify Console: you pay per result.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domains to check, for example example.com. URLs are reduced to the domain.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of findings and fixes.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Safety limit per run.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Domains processed at the same time.

## `dkimSelectors` (type: `array`):

Optional. Your own DKIM selectors, checked in addition to 40 common ones.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "webifysystems.de",
    "bund.de"
  ],
  "language": "de",
  "maxDomains": 2000,
  "concurrency": 5,
  "dkimSelectors": []
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One dataset item per domain: domain, score, grade, emailScore, webScore, dnsScore, failed, warnings, topIssues, findings (id, area, status, message), facts (mx, spf, dmarc, dkimSelectors, mtaStsMode, tlsRpt, bimi, dnssec, caa, nameservers, cert, securityTxt).

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "webifysystems.de",
        "bund.de"
    ],
    "dkimSelectors": []
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("webify-lab/domain-security-check").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
