# Domain WHOIS, DNS and Email Security Checker (`weio/domain-whois-dns-email-security-checker`) Actor

Bulk domain lookup: WHOIS data via RDAP (registrar, creation and expiry date), DNS records (nameservers, MX, CAA) and email security checks (SPF, DMARC) with a plain-language issue list per domain. For email deliverability audits, lead qualification and domain portfolio monitoring.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain WHOIS (RDAP), DNS and SPF/DMARC Checker

Give it a list of domains and get one row per domain with its registration facts, DNS records and email-security
records, plus a short list of plain-language issues. Useful for qualifying B2B leads, auditing client domains
before an email campaign, tracking expiry dates across a portfolio, or checking that your own domains can't be spoofed.

### What it does

Only official public protocols are used; no web pages are scraped and no browser runs.

- **Registration (RDAP)**: RDAP is the registries' official successor to WHOIS. The actor finds each TLD's RDAP
server from the IANA bootstrap list and returns **registrar**, **created**, **expires**, **days\_to\_expiry**,
**status** codes, **nameservers** and **dnssec**. For a subdomain it walks up to the registered domain.
- **DNS (over HTTPS, Cloudflare with Google as fallback)**: **a**, **aaaa**, **caa** for the domain; **mx**, **spf**
(the `v=spf1` TXT record) and **dmarc** (`_dmarc` TXT) for the registered domain, with **spf\_all**
(`-all`, `~all` ...; a bare `all` reads as `+all`, and an SPF `redirect=` is followed one hop to find it) and
**dmarc\_policy** (none / quarantine / reject) pulled out. **null\_mx** is true when the domain publishes the
RFC 7505 "accepts no mail" record (`0 .`); such domains are not flagged for missing SPF or DMARC.
- **issues**: for example "no DMARC record", "DMARC policy is p=none (monitoring only)", "receives mail (MX) but has
no SPF record", "SPF ends with +all", "multiple SPF records (invalid)", "DMARC record has no p= tag (invalid)",
"domain expires in 12 days". Only faults of the domain itself go here.
- **rdap\_note**: null, or why registration facts are missing (for example "no RDAP service for .de"). A lookup limit,
not a problem with the domain.
- **error**: null, or `invalid domain`, `not registered`, `dns lookups failed`.

Limits, stated plainly: some country TLDs run no public RDAP server (for example .de); for those the registration
fields are empty and **rdap\_note** says so, while DNS fields are still filled. Registrant names and contact details
are usually redacted by registries and are not collected. DKIM is not checked, because it needs the sender's selector.
