## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Local Business Leads by Trade and County with Emails (open data, no Google Maps)

Independent US local businesses for one trade in one county, each with a website that **loads and is theirs**, plus the
role email addresses (info@, office@, frontdesk@...) that the business publishes **on its own website**, with the page
each address was found on.

- **Source:** [Overture Maps Places](https://overturemaps.org/) open data (newest release, found at run time). No Google
  Maps, no directory scraping. Chains (Overture brand field plus a list of national brands), public bodies, closed
  places, duplicates and listings whose "website" is a directory or social profile are left out before any site is read.
- **Own website check:** the homepage and, when linked, the contact and about pages are read with an honest bot
  (WeioBot) that obeys robots.txt and paces requests per host. A lead is returned only when those
  pages show the business's phone number or name. Sites that refuse robots, block bots, error or belong to someone else
  are skipped and not charged.
- **Emails:** only business addresses the business itself publishes on its own website; nothing is guessed, bought or
  scraped from third parties, and every email comes with the page it was found on. Role mailboxes only (no personal names), on the site's own domain or a free-mail address; hosting,
  platform, government and legal/privacy mailboxes are dropped. `emailSourcePage` is the page the address appears on.

### Input

`trade` (plain words, mapped to Overture categories; the run log shows the mapping), `county` and `state` (required:
nothing runs or is charged until you choose them; the form is prefilled with dentists, Fresno County, CA as an example),
`maxItems` (stop after this many leads, default 20). Advanced: `categories` (Overture category ids, replace the trade mapping), `minConfidence`, `concurrency`.

### Pricing (pay per event)

- `lead-with-website`: one lead whose own website loaded and shows its phone or name.
- `own-site-email-found`: charged in addition, only when at least one email was found on that website.

Bad input, empty searches and skipped candidates are free. The run's `SUMMARY` record gives the lead count and the
share of leads with an own-site email.

### Data and license

Business records: (c) Overture Maps Foundation contributors, under the CDLA Permissive 2.0 and the source licenses listed
per row in `sourceDatasets`. Email addresses and pages: read from each business's public website on the date in
`checkedAt`. Use them for legitimate business contact and follow anti-spam law (CAN-SPAM in the US).

# Actor input Schema

## `trade` (type: `string`):

The kind of business, in plain words: 'dentists', 'plumbers', 'personal injury lawyers', 'hvac contractors'. Mapped to Overture business categories; the run log shows the mapping.

## `county` (type: `string`):

US county name, for example 'Fresno County' (or just 'Fresno').

## `state` (type: `string`):

US state name or two-letter code.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many leads. Only returned leads are charged.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Overture category ids, for example dental_clinic. When set, these replace the trade mapping.

## `minConfidence` (type: `number`):

Overture's confidence that the place exists (0-1).

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Each site is read politely: robots.txt is honored and requests to one host are paced.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "trade": "dentists",
  "county": "Fresno County",
  "state": "CA",
  "maxItems": 20,
  "minConfidence": 0.7,
  "concurrency": 8
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `leads` (type: `string`):

The default dataset, overview view.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Leads found, email rate and run details.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "trade": "dentists",
    "county": "Fresno County",
    "state": "CA"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("weio/local-business-leads-by-trade-and-county").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
