## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## USPTO Trademark Status & Renewal Deadlines — Section 8/9 Docket + Risk Score (Bulk)

**Bulk USPTO trademark status checker that computes your docket**: paste serial or registration numbers and get each mark's next deadline (Section 8, Section 8&9 renewal, office action, Statement of Use, revive), days remaining, **RED / AMBER / GREEN** risk, owner-mismatch flag, and a TSDR verify link — plus one portfolio-summary row with the next 10 deadlines. **Bring your own free USPTO TSDR API key.**

### Status lookups vs a computed docket

| | Trademark search/lookup Actors (e.g. dev00, memo23) | This Actor |
|---|---|---|
| Output | raw status / wordmark / owner fields | next statutory deadline + window/grace dates + days left |
| Risk triage | none | RED/AMBER/GREEN with reason codes |
| Portfolio view | none | summary row: next 10 deadlines, owner mismatches |
| Source | varies | official USPTO TSDR API only |

### Get a free TSDR API key (3 steps)

1. Create/sign in to a USPTO.gov account at account.uspto.gov.
2. Open the API Manager (account.uspto.gov/api-manager) and request a TSDR API key.
3. Paste it into the `tsdrApiKey` input (stored as a secret field; sent only to USPTO).

> **Not legal advice.** Computed estimates from public TSDR data. Confirm every date on TSDR and with a trademark attorney. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the USPTO.

### Rules applied

| Deadline | Rule |
|---|---|
| Section 8 declaration | yrs 5–6 after registration, +6-mo grace (15 USC 1058; 37 CFR 2.160) |
| Section 8 & 9 renewal | yr 9–10 and every 10 yrs, +6-mo grace (37 CFR 2.160, 2.182) |
| Office action | 3 mo + one 3-mo extension (37 CFR 2.62; pre-Dec-2022 / 66(a) may differ — flagged) |
| Statement of Use | 6 mo after NOA, +6-mo extensions, 36-mo max (37 CFR 2.88/2.89) |
| Petition to revive | 2 mo after abandonment notice (37 CFR 2.66) |
Risk: RED = in grace / overdue / <90 days / revive window / missed Sec 8 / dead. AMBER = <180 days or window open, owner mismatch, unknown status, Madrid, pending w/o computable deadline. GREEN otherwise.

### Example input

```json
{"tsdrApiKey":"YOUR_KEY","serials":["97123456","88234567"],"expectedOwner":"Acme Inc","portfolioSummary":true}
```

### Output sample (live smoke row, trimmed)

```json
{"mark":"MAC MEMPHIS ATHLETIC CAMPUS","risk":"RED","nextDeadline":null,"daysRemaining":null,
 "reasonCodes":["DEAD_ABANDONED_REVIVE_WINDOW_CLOSED"],"ownerMismatch":false,"verifyOnTsdr":"https://tsdr.uspto.gov/..."}
```

### All input options

`tsdrApiKey` (**required, yours** — free USPTO key, secret field), `serials[]`, `registrations[]`, `expectedOwner?`, `asOfDate?`, `maxMarks`, `portfolioSummary`.

### Pricing (pay per event)

`mark-scored` $0.015 per mark found & scored · `portfolio-summary` $0.05/run · tiny start. Not-found / errors not charged. 100 marks ≈ $1.55.

### Throughput

TSDR allows 60 req/min per key; we pace ~55/min ⇒ ~3,300 marks/hr. Default timeout 1 h.

### Data & privacy

Official TSDR case-status API (XML) only — no HTML scraping, no proxy, no browser. Owner name returned only for mismatch checks; **no contact enrichment**. Source: USPTO TSDR. Stateless: no watch, no memory.
Note: TSDR returns 404 (not 401) for an invalid key; the Actor aborts (nothing charged) if the first 3 lookups all 404 — so a list whose first 3 serials are typos will also abort. Put known-good serials first or fix typos and re-run.

Risk notes: Sec 8/renewal counts as satisfied only on an ACCEPTED / REGISTERED AND RENEWED event. Filed-not-accepted = AMBER SEC8_FILED_PENDING; post-registration office action = RED. If TSDR events are empty/unparsed the row gets EVENTS_UNPARSED (never GREEN, never a MISSED claim). A missed Sec 8/renewal returns nextDeadline=null + CANCELLATION_EXPECTED.

# Actor input Schema

## `tsdrApiKey` (type: `string`):

REQUIRED for real scoring: your own free USPTO TSDR API key (account.uspto.gov/api-manager). Never shared; used only as USPTO-API-KEY header. Without it the run exits cleanly with an explanatory row and no charges.

## `serials` (type: `array`):

Serial numbers

## `registrations` (type: `array`):

Registration numbers

## `expectedOwner` (type: `string`):

Flags OWNER_MISMATCH when TSDR owner differs.

As-of date (YYYY-MM-DD, default today UTC)

## `maxMarks` (type: `integer`):

Max marks

## `portfolioSummary` (type: `boolean`):

Portfolio summary row ($0.05)

## `dryRun` (type: `boolean`):

Dry run (no dataset, no charges)
