## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC 10-K, 10-Q & 8-K Filings Scraper by Ticker (EDGAR)

Pull the **most recent SEC EDGAR filings** for any list of US tickers or CIKs: form type, filing and report dates, accession number, 8-K item codes and **direct links to the filing document and index**. Uses the SEC's official public JSON API with a declared User-Agent and a polite request rate. Export JSON, CSV or Excel.

### Use cases

- **Investor research:** track new 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings for a watchlist.
- **Insider monitoring:** list recent Form 4 filings per company.
- **Compliance and journalism:** build a dated filing trail.
- **Data pipelines:** feed accession numbers and URLs into your own parsers.

### How it works

1. Tickers are resolved to CIKs using the SEC's company_tickers index.
2. Each company's submissions feed is read and filtered by the form types you choose.
3. One record per filing is returned, newest first.
4. This returns filing metadata and links, not the filing text itself.

### Input

```json
{
  "tickers": [
    "AAPL"
  ],
  "formTypes": "10-K,8-K",
  "perCompany": 5
}
```

Empty input `{}` runs a small demo. Other options: `formTypes`, `perCompany`, `maxResults`, `concurrency`.

### Output (one item per result)

```json
{
  "company": "Apple Inc.",
  "ticker": "AAPL",
  "cik": 320193,
  "form": "10-K",
  "filingDate": "2025-10-31",
  "reportDate": "2025-09-27",
  "accessionNumber": "0000320193-25-000079",
  "documentUrl": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019325000079/aapl-20250927.htm",
  "error": null
}
```

### Example output

Real output from a default run (some fields omitted for width):

| ticker | company | form | filingDate | reportDate | documentUrl |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AAPL | Apple Inc. | 10-Q | 2026-07-31 | 2026-06-27 | https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019326000020/aapl-20260627.htm |

Every run also produces a ready-made table view in the Output tab, and you can export to JSON, CSV or Excel.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0004 per filing fetched** ($0.40 per 1,000). Duplicates, failed lookups and empty results are not charged.

### Limitations

- Filing metadata and links only: no financial statements, XBRL facts or document text.
- Covers only the `recent` filings block of each company's SEC submissions JSON (roughly the latest 1,000 filings or the last year or so, whichever is larger); older history is not paged.
- Up to 100 filings per company (`perCompany`, default 10). Tickers resolve through the SEC `company_tickers.json` index, so only current US-listed tickers work; otherwise pass a numeric CIK.
- Runs 3 lookups in parallel by default (max 20) with a 150 ms pause per worker, well under the SEC fair-access limit of 10 requests per second. Requests carry a declared User-Agent with a contact email, as the SEC requires.
- Each request times out after 30 s and is retried up to 4 times on 403, 429, 5xx or network errors; after that the input returns an error row (not charged). Up to 1,000 inputs per run by default.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?** Yes, in the sense that EDGAR is public data published by the SEC for open use, and this Actor uses the documented JSON API within the SEC fair-access guidance (10 requests per second maximum, declared User-Agent). It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC. You are responsible for how you use the data, including securities and marketing laws.

**Which companies are covered?** Any SEC registrant with a ticker, or any CIK number.

**Does it include financial statements?** No, only filing metadata and links.

**Are failures charged?** No. Unknown tickers and API errors are not charged.

**Is this investment advice or a complete record?** No. It lists filings as published and may omit older filings, so confirm anything important on sec.gov.

### Use from code and AI agents

Call it from any language with the Apify API, or let an AI agent find and run it through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com).

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
run = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>").actor("wintersworks/sec-edgar-filings-lookup").call(run_input={"tickers": ["AAPL", "MSFT"], "formTypes": "10-K,10-Q,8-K"})
items = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>").dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).list_items().items
```

Results land in the run's dataset (JSON, CSV, Excel). Set a maximum charge per run in the run options to cap spend.
