## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Company Hiring Trends: growth and slowdown signals from job boards

Which companies are **ramping up hiring** and which are **slowing down**? This Actor reads daily snapshots of companies' own job boards (**Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable and more**) and returns one row per company with its **hiring momentum**, open-role change, the teams it is hiring for and its most recent job titles.

**Database today:** about 48,000 open jobs from 1,250+ companies (Y Combinator, remote-first companies and others), refreshed every day.

### Who uses it

- **Investors and analysts:** spot startups that are scaling (or freezing) before it shows up in the news.
- **B2B sales teams:** fast-growing companies have new budget and new teams to sell to.
- **Recruiters and agencies:** focus outreach on companies that are actively building teams.
- **Job seekers:** find companies that are growing, not just posting.

### Examples

Fastest-growing companies by engineering hiring:

```json
{ "direction": "growing", "departments": ["Engineering"] }
```

Companies slowing down hiring in sales:

```json
{ "direction": "shrinking", "keywords": ["sales", "account executive"] }
```

Momentum for specific companies over the last 60 days:

```json
{ "direction": "all", "companies": ["vanta.com", "ramp.com"], "windowDays": 60, "minOpenJobs": 1 }
```

### Output

| Field | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `trend`, `trend_score` | `growing` / `stable` / `shrinking` and the % change behind it. Until 30 days of board history exist, the score compares postings in the last window with the window before, adding 10 to both so a company going from 0 to 19 postings does not outrank one going from 33 to 135; capped at 1000 |
| `trend_basis` | `open_roles_history` (change in open roles vs our daily snapshots) or `posting_dates` (roles posted in the last window vs the window before) |
| `open_jobs`, `open_jobs_then`, `compared_to_date`, `open_jobs_change`, `open_jobs_change_pct` | open roles now vs then |
| `posted_last_window`, `posted_previous_window`, `window_days` | hiring velocity from posting dates |
| `matching_jobs`, `top_departments`, `recent_titles`, `remote_share` | where the company is hiring |
| `company`, `company_website`, `company_industry`, `company_team_size`, `ats`, `board` | company details |

### How the trend is measured

- When our daily snapshots cover the window, the trend is the **change in open roles** (most reliable, catches slowdowns).
- Until then, it falls back to **posting dates**: roles posted in the last window vs the window before, among currently open roles. This catches acceleration well; slowdowns are best read from `open_roles_history` rows.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one **company row**. No matches, no charge. Use **Max results** to cap spend.

### FAQ

**How fresh is it?** Snapshots are taken every day.

**Does it cover all companies?** It covers companies using one of 8 popular job board systems; the database grows weekly.

### Data and use

Only public job-posting data from official public job board endpoints, aggregated per company. No personal data.

### What you can do with it

- Find startups that are ramping up hiring this month
- Spot companies that slowed down or froze hiring
- See which teams a company is growing (engineering, sales, operations)
- Rank accounts by hiring momentum for sales outreach
- Track hiring at portfolio or competitor companies over time
- Export growth signals to CSV, Google Sheets or a CRM

### What it costs

| Example | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| 25 growing companies | about $0.50 |
| 100 companies | about $2.00 |

You only pay for rows you get. Set **Max results** (or a maximum cost per run in Apify) to cap spend. Apify's free plan includes monthly credit, so you can try it at no cost. Apify subscribers get automatic Store discounts on some events.

### Use it from code, no-code tools or AI agents

**Python** (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("worthwhile_quinsy/company-hiring-trends").call(run_input={'direction': 'growing', 'departments': ['Engineering'], 'maxResults': 25})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

**JavaScript / Node.js** (`npm install apify-client`):

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: 'YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN' });
const run = await client.actor('worthwhile_quinsy/company-hiring-trends').call({"direction": "growing", "departments": ["Engineering"], "maxResults": 25});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);
```

**One HTTP call** (returns the rows directly):

```bash
curl -X POST 'https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/worthwhile_quinsy~company-hiring-trends/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"direction": "growing", "departments": ["Engineering"], "maxResults": 25}'
```

**No-code:** connect it to **Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets, Slack** or a **webhook** from the Integrations tab, and run it on a **Schedule** (for example every morning).

**AI agents (MCP):** use it as a tool in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client through the Apify MCP server: `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=worthwhile_quinsy/company-hiring-trends`. Your agent can then ask for live job data in plain language. Use this tool when the user asks for which companies are growing or slowing their hiring.

### More tools from the same job-data suite

All of these read the same daily database of jobs from company career pages, so results are consistent across tools.
