## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CarGurus UK Scraper: used car listings with deal ratings

Scrape used car listings from **CarGurus UK** (cargurus.co.uk) around any UK postcode. You get clean JSON with make, model, trim, price, CarGurus' own deal rating and expected price, mileage, fuel, gearbox, VIN, ULEZ status, days on market, dealer name and photos. Use it as an unofficial CarGurus API for UK used car prices and dealer stock. Export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or call it from your own code.

- **Cheap:** $0.40 per 1,000 results, plus $0.0005 per run.
- **Fast:** 24 listings per request, with no browser. 48 listings take about 6 seconds.
- **Deal ratings included:** every listing carries CarGurus' `dealRating` (Great, Good, Fair, High or Overpriced) and `expectedPrice`.
- **Filtered at the source:** make, model, price, year and mileage are filtered by CarGurus itself, so you only pay for listings you asked for.
- **No personal data:** private sellers' names and all postcodes and phone numbers are never collected.

### What can you use it for?

- **Car trading:** find listings priced below CarGurus' own expected price.
- **Dealer and stock monitoring:** track new listings around a postcode every day.
- **Valuation:** compare asking prices with CarGurus' expected price for the same car.
- **Market data:** feed listings into a spreadsheet, dashboard or pricing model.

### How to scrape CarGurus UK

1. Enter a UK `zip` (postcode) and a `distance` in miles.
2. Optionally add a `make`, `model`, price, year and mileage filters, and set `maxItems`.
3. Click **Start**. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0005 per run + $0.0004 per result**.

| Results | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.04 |
| 1,000 | $0.40 |
| 10,000 | $4.00 |

The actor respects your run's maximum charge. It stops fetching once that limit is reached, so you are never billed past it.

### Tips

- Use the full model name (`3 Series`, not `3`) so CarGurus filters it; partial names make the actor read extra pages.
- For a daily feed of new listings, schedule it with `sortType: LISTING_DATE` and `maxItems` a little above your daily volume.

### Use it from your code

Call the scraper through the Apify API, here with the Python client (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("xerneas_ftw/cargurus-uk").call(run_input={
    "zip": "B1 1AA",
    "distance": 30,
    "make": "Volkswagen",
    "maxPrice": 15000,
    "maxItems": 200,
})
for car in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(car["title"], car["price"], car["dealRating"])
```

It also works with JavaScript, plain HTTP, Make, Zapier, n8n and Google Sheets through Apify integrations.

### FAQ

**Is there an official CarGurus API?** Not a public one for searching listings. This actor gives you search results as structured JSON.

**Does it cover cargurus.com (US) or other countries?** No, only cargurus.co.uk.

**Do I need a CarGurus account or proxies?** No. Everything is handled for you.

**Does it collect seller contact details?** No. It collects only listing data. Private sellers' names, postcodes and phone numbers are never output.

### Legal

This actor collects only publicly available listing data and no personal data. CarGurus' terms of use restrict automated collection. You are responsible for checking that your use of the data is allowed by CarGurus' terms and applicable law, including UK GDPR.
