## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Copart UK Scraper: salvage car auction data, fast and cheap

Scrape vehicle lots from **Copart UK** (copart.co.uk), the UK's largest salvage car auction. You get clean JSON with make, model, year, current bid, odometer, damage, run-and-drive status, Cat N / Cat S salvage category, sale date, yard location and photos. Use it as an unofficial Copart UK API for damaged and repairable car data. Export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or call it from your own code.

- **Cheap:** $0.60 per 1,000 lots, plus $0.0005 per run.
- **Fast:** 100 lots per request, with no browser. 50 lots take under a second.
- **Filtered at the source:** make, model, year, mileage and maximum bid are filtered by Copart itself.
- **Unrepairable lots excluded by default:** Cat A (crush) and Cat B (breaker) lots are dropped on Copart's side, so you don't pay for cars that can't go back on the road.

### What can you use it for?

- **Bidding research:** watch current bids on the makes and models you rebuild or export.
- **Repairable car sourcing:** find Cat N and Cat S cars under your budget before the auction day.
- **Auction alerts:** schedule runs and get new lots that match your filters.
- **Market data:** build salvage price and damage statistics in a spreadsheet or database.

### How to scrape Copart UK

1. Search on [copart.co.uk](https://www.copart.co.uk/) with the filters you want and copy the results URL, or just type a make into `searchQuery`.
2. Paste it into `startUrls`, and set `maxItems` and `maxBid`.
3. Click **Start**. Download the lots as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Input

Paste any Copart UK search URL, or build one with filters:

```json
{
  "startUrls": ["https://www.copart.co.uk/lotSearchResults?free=true&query=bmw"],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "maxBid": 5000,
  "excludeUnrepairable": true
}
```

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `startUrls` | Copart UK `lotSearchResults` URLs: a simple `?query=…` search, or a `?searchCriteria={…}` URL with filters such as `lot_make_desc`, `lot_year` or `odometer_reading_received`. |
| `searchQuery` | Free-text search; overrides the URL's query. |
| `maxItems` | How many lots to return (default 20). |
| `maxBid` | Only lots whose current bid is at or below this (GBP). |
| `excludeUnrepairable` | Drop Cat A and Cat B lots (default `true`). |
| `useCache` / `cacheTtlMinutes` | Repeating the same search within 15 minutes returns the stored results instantly. Bids move, so keep this short, or set `useCache: false`. |

Lots come in Copart's order: soonest auction first.

#### Filtered search URL example

```
https://www.copart.co.uk/lotSearchResults?searchCriteria={"query":["*"],"filter":{"MAKE":["lot_make_desc:\"BMW\""],"YEAR":["lot_year:[2016 TO 2020]"],"ODM":["odometer_reading_received:[0 TO 80000]"]}}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "lotNumber": "49216006",
  "title": "2016 BMW X5 xDrive M50d 5dr Auto [7 Seat]",
  "lotMakeDesc": "BMW",
  "lotModelDesc": "X5 M50D",
  "lotYear": 2016,
  "currentBid": 7200,
  "currency": "GBP",
  "odometer": 84908,
  "primaryDamage": "SIDE",
  "secondaryDamage": "MINOR DENTS/SCRATCHES",
  "runAndDrive": "ENHANCED VEHICLES",
  "category": "N REPAIRABLE NON STRUCTURAL",
  "vin": null,
  "saleDate": "2026-11-02T10:00:00.000Z",
  "fuelType": "Diesel",
  "location": "BRISTOL",
  "url": "https://www.copart.co.uk/lot/49216006/clean-title-2016-bmw-x5-xdrive-m50d-5dr-auto-7-seat-bristol",
  "images": ["https://cs.copart.com/…_ful.jpg", "https://cs.copart.com/…_thb.jpg"]
}
```

- `odometer` is `null` when Copart recorded no reading, rather than a false 0.
- `vin` is `null` when Copart masks it.
- `images` holds the full-size photo first, then the thumbnail.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0005 per run + $0.0006 per lot**.

| Lots | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.06 |
| 1,000 | $0.60 |
| 10,000 | $6.00 |

The actor respects your run's maximum charge. It stops fetching once that limit is reached.

### Use it from your code

Call the scraper through the Apify API, here with the Python client (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("xerneas_ftw/copart-uk").call(run_input={
    "searchQuery": "volkswagen golf",
    "maxItems": 200,
    "maxBid": 3000,
})
for lot in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(lot["title"], lot["currentBid"], lot["category"])
```

It also works with JavaScript, plain HTTP, Make, Zapier, n8n and Google Sheets through Apify integrations.

### FAQ

**Is there an official Copart UK API?** Not a public one. This actor gives you the lot data as structured JSON.

**Do I need a Copart membership?** No. It reads public lot listings, the same ones anyone can browse without logging in.

**Does it cover Copart USA or other countries?** No, only copart.co.uk.

**What do Cat N and Cat S mean?** UK write-off categories. Cat N is non-structural damage and Cat S is structural damage. Both can be repaired and put back on the road. Cat A and Cat B can't, which is why they're excluded by default.

### Legal

This actor collects only publicly available auction listing data. You are responsible for using it in line with Copart's terms and applicable law.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

copart.co.uk /lotSearchResults URLs, either ?searchCriteria={JSON with query + Solr filter} or ?query=bmw. Empty = all lots.

## `searchQuery` (type: `string`):

Overrides the query of every start URL (filters are kept).
