## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Florida New Business Tax Receipts

Get **newly opened Florida businesses** from official county **local business tax receipt (BTR)** records, normalized into one clean feed. Covers **Miami-Dade, Broward, Lee, St. Johns and Osceola** counties. A BTR is filed when a business starts operating at a physical location in the county, so each row is a real, local, newly opened business with its address and business type. Unlike Sunbiz entity filings, these are not shell LLCs or out-of-state registrations.

Run it weekly with **new-only mode** and you'll get just the businesses you haven't seen yet. You're never charged twice for the same business.

### Who uses it

- **B2B sales & lead gen**: insurance agents, accountants, bookkeepers, payroll, merchant services, POS, signage, cleaning, marketing agencies, web designers.
- **Local suppliers**: restaurant suppliers, commercial cleaning, pest control, waste haulers, security.
- **Market research**: new-business formation by county, ZIP and industry.
- **AI agents & CRMs**: a weekly, deduplicated list of new local businesses as JSON.

### Output (one row per new business)

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| businessName | Rzotech LLC |
| ownerName | Rzotech LLC |
| address | 888 Oak Arbor Cir |
| city | St Augustine |
| state | FL |
| zip | 32084 |
| businessType | Computer Services |
| businessCategory | county class/category when provided |
| startDate | 2026-09-30 |
| county | St. Johns |
| accountNumber / receiptNumber | county IDs when provided |
| sourceName / sourceUrl | the official record or file |
| fetchedAt | 2026-10-19T19:43:37Z |

Fields a county doesn't publish are `null`, never guessed.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| counties | Any of `miami-dade`, `broward`, `lee`, `st-johns`, `osceola`. Empty means all. |
| lookbackDays | Window when no Date from is given (default 60). |
| dateFrom / dateTo | Start or issue date range, YYYY-MM-DD. |
| businessTypeKeywords | e.g. `["restaurant","cleaning","salon"]`. Matches type, category or name, case-insensitive. |
| newOnly | Default on. Emits only rows never delivered before. |
| maxItems | Cost cap. 0 means no limit. |

#### Examples

New restaurants and food businesses in South Florida, last 14 days:

```json
{ "counties": ["miami-dade", "broward"], "lookbackDays": 14, "businessTypeKeywords": ["restaurant", "food", "cater"] }
```

Every new business in Lee County for September 2026, ignoring history:

```json
{ "counties": ["lee"], "dateFrom": "2026-09-01", "dateTo": "2026-09-30", "newOnly": false }
```

Weekly feed of contractors and home services statewide (all covered counties):

```json
{ "businessTypeKeywords": ["contractor", "handy", "cleaning", "pool", "lawn", "pest"], "lookbackDays": 60 }
```

### Scheduling guide (weekly new-business alerts)

1. Save your input as a Task.
2. Open **Schedules**, then **Create**. Use a weekly cron like `0 8 * * 1` (Mondays 08:00) in your timezone, and attach the Task.
3. Keep **newOnly = true** and `lookbackDays` at **60** (the default). Counties post records with a lag, and St. Johns and Osceola publish monthly lists, so a wide window catches late postings. New-only mode makes sure you only get each business once.
4. Connect the output to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, a webhook or your CRM through Apify **Integrations**.

Dedupe memory lives in a named key-value store, `fl-new-business-seen`, in your own account. Delete it to start fresh. Entries older than 400 days are pruned automatically.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool through the **Apify MCP server** (`https://mcp.apify.com`), so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients can call it directly. Add the server with your Apify token and enable the tool `xprm-llc/florida-new-business-tax-receipts`. Ask things like *"List new restaurants that opened in Broward in the last two weeks."* The input is plain JSON with documented fields, and the output is a flat, typed table (see the dataset schema), so agents can filter and summarize it without any scraping logic.

### Pricing

You're charged **per row delivered**. Runs that find nothing new cost almost nothing, and failed sources never produce charged rows.

### FAQ

**Which counties are covered?** Miami-Dade, Broward, Lee, St. Johns and Osceola. We add a county only when it publishes a clean public dataset or download.

**Why not Orange, Hillsborough, Palm Beach, Duval, Pinellas or Charlotte?** Their new-business lists are behind a captcha, a subscription login or a robots.txt block, or they aren't published as open data at all. We don't bypass any of these.

**How fresh is the data?** Broward and Lee ArcGIS layers update every few days; Miami-Dade's new-business flag typically lags 3-4 weeks. St. Johns and Osceola post a monthly list.

**What if one county is down?** The run logs a warning, records it in `RUN_SUMMARY`, and continues with the other counties. Error rows are never written to your dataset.

**Is startDate the opening date?** It's the business start date or receipt issue date the county records. Some counties (Lee especially) record future planned start dates. Use `dateTo` to cap them.

**Do I get phone or email?** No. This feed only gives the business name, owner, location and type. To reach a business, use its public website or another channel that's appropriate.

**Can I get older history?** Set `dateFrom`. The ArcGIS counties keep years of data, while St. Johns and Osceola only offer their current monthly list.

### Public records note

All data comes from official **public records** published by Florida county governments under Florida's public records law (Ch. 119, F.S.). It's read only from openly published ArcGIS REST layers and downloadable files. This Actor uses no logins, captchas, proxies or paid subscriptions, respects robots.txt, rate-limits its requests and identifies itself in its User-Agent. Each row links to its official source. You're responsible for using the data lawfully, including telemarketing (TCPA / Florida Telephone Solicitation Act), CAN-SPAM and do-not-call rules. This Actor isn't affiliated with any county.

# Actor input Schema

## `counties` (type: `array`):

Which county sources to read. Leave empty for all: miami-dade, broward, lee, st-johns, osceola.

## `lookbackDays` (type: `integer`):

Used when Date from is empty: include businesses whose start/issue date is within this many days before today. Default 60, because Miami-Dade posts new receipts about 3-4 weeks late and St. Johns/Osceola publish monthly lists.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

Earliest business start or receipt issue date to include. Overrides Lookback days.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

Latest start or issue date to include. Default today.

## `businessTypeKeywords` (type: `array`):

Keep only rows whose business type, category or name contains any of these words (case-insensitive), e.g. restaurant, cleaning, contractor, salon. Empty = all types.

## `newOnly` (type: `boolean`):

On: remember every row already delivered (named key-value store fl-new-business-seen) and emit only rows not seen before. Ideal for weekly schedules. Off: return every match in the date range.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many rows (cost cap). 0 = no limit.
