## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## BioSpace Jobs Scraper

Scrape biotech, pharma and life-science jobs from **BioSpace** (jobs.biospace.com): job title, employer, location with **latitude and longitude**, **salary** (min, max, currency, period), the **full job description**, required education, disciplines, industry, work arrangement, posted and expiry dates, and, if you want it, the **employer's own apply link** (Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, the company careers site).

No BioSpace account, no cookies, nothing to set up. Type a keyword, optionally a city or state, press **Start**, and download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel.

### Why this BioSpace scraper

- **Real location search.** A city or ZIP code is searched within a radius (5 to 500 miles), using BioSpace's own location search. A US state, Canadian province or country ("California", "NJ", "Ontario", "Germany") is matched exactly on each job. "Remote" returns remote jobs.
- **Salaries you can use.** The posted pay is split into `salaryMin`, `salaryMax`, `salaryCurrency` and `salaryPeriod`, and the original text is kept as well.
- **Every BioSpace filter:** 111 disciplines (Clinical Research, Regulatory, CMC, Biostatistics, Medical Affairs and more), industry, required education, position type, remote only, and BioSpace's life-science hotbeds (Genetown, Biotech Bay, Pharm Country, and others).
- **The real apply link.** With **Add the apply link** switched on, each job's page is opened and you get the employer's application URL, with ad-click trackers removed, plus its domain (for example `myworkdayjobs.com`), so you can see which ATS each employer uses.
- **Coordinates on every job**, ready for maps and distance calculations.
- **Daily feeds:** set **Posted within** to 1 day and schedule the run.
- **Fast:** 20 jobs per page, about 100 jobs every 2 to 3 seconds.

### How to use

1. Enter one or more **keywords** (for example `clinical research associate`, `biostatistician`, `CMC`), or leave the field empty to get the newest jobs.
2. Optionally enter **locations**: `Boston, MA`, `South San Francisco, CA`, `94080`, `California`, `Canada` or `Remote`. Each keyword is searched in each location.
3. Optionally pick **disciplines**, **industries**, **education**, **position type** or **hotbeds**.
4. Set **Max jobs per search** (0 = all of them) and press **Start**.

A job that comes up in several of your searches is only returned, and only charged, once.

#### Input examples

Clinical research jobs within 20 miles of Cambridge, MA, with apply links:

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["clinical research associate", "clinical trial manager"],
  "locations": ["Cambridge, MA"],
  "radiusMiles": 20,
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxItemsPerSearch": 200
**Field notes**
- `applyUrl`, `applyDomain`, `applyType`, `employerProfileUrl`, `isExpired` and `descriptionHtml` are filled when **Add the apply link** is on (or for job links you paste). `applyType` is `external` when you apply on the employer's site and `biospace` when you apply on BioSpace.
- `salary*` fields are empty when the employer did not post pay (roughly 1 job in 5 has it). When the period is not stated, a yearly amount is assumed for figures of 10,000 or more.
- `postedAt` and `expiresAt` are exact timestamps from BioSpace.
- `disciplines` and the other labels are the ones BioSpace shows; `disciplineSlugs` are stable codes you can filter on.
### Pricing
Pay per event:
- **Actor start:** $0.005 per run.
- **Job:** $0.10 per 1,000 jobs saved.
- **Job details:** $1.50 per 1,000 jobs, only when **Add the apply link** is on (or for job links you paste).
Duplicates and jobs removed by your filters are never charged. A search that finds nothing costs only the start fee.
### FAQ
**Do I need a BioSpace account, cookies or a login?** No. No login is needed: the scraper reads the same public job listings any visitor sees, and needs nothing from you except a search.
**How does the location search work?** A city or ZIP code is looked up with BioSpace's own location search and searched within your radius (BioSpace offers 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50, 200 and 500 miles; 50 by default). For big biotech hubs typed without a state (Boston, Cambridge, San Diego, South San Francisco...) the hub is used rather than a small town of the same name. States, provinces and countries are matched on each job's own location fields. The run's status message shows the exact location that was used. Type "CA" for California and "Canada" for the country.
**Why did a run stop with "few jobs matched your filters"?** BioSpace can't filter by state, country or hotbed itself, so those are checked job by job. When almost nothing matches, the run stops after scanning a reasonable number of pages instead of reading the whole site. Add a keyword or a discipline to narrow the search.
**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If BioSpace refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them and carries on without them when it doesn't. If the proxy you picked isn't available on your account, the run uses datacenter instead and says so in its status message.
**What happens if a run hits its time limit?** It stops shortly before the timeout (20% of the run time, at most a minute), keeps everything collected so far and finishes successfully. If the timeout is so short that nothing came back, the status message says so: give the run at least 60 seconds.
**Can I scrape a list of specific jobs?** Yes. Paste job links (jobs.biospace.com/job/...) into **BioSpace links**. Each one is read from its job page, with the apply link.
**Is it legal to scrape BioSpace?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: job listings and the employer details that BioSpace shows to any visitor without an account (title, employer, location, salary, description, apply link). Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. The results are about jobs and employers, not private individuals: no applicant, job-seeker or user-account data is collected, and employer contact-person fields are never output. A job description is the employer's own text, which occasionally mentions a recruiter's name or work email. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as BioSpace's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from what BioSpace shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches private or restricted accounts, and never reaches password-protected areas.
# Actor input Schema
## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):
What to search on BioSpace, e.g. "clinical research associate", "CMC", "biostatistician", "medical science liaison". Each keyword is searched separately. Leave empty to get the newest jobs.
## `locations` (type: `array`):
Optional. A city ("Boston, MA", "South San Francisco, CA"), a US ZIP code ("94080") — searched within the radius below — or a whole US state ("California", "NJ"), Canadian province ("Ontario"), country ("Germany", "Canada") or "Remote". Each location is combined with every keyword.
## `radiusMiles` (type: `integer`):
BioSpace offers 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50, 200 or 500 miles; other values are rounded up to the next one. Only used for cities and ZIP codes.
## `disciplines` (type: `array`):
Optional. Only jobs in these BioSpace disciplines (any of them). A top-level discipline such as "Clinical" covers the jobs BioSpace tags with it.
## `industries` (type: `array`):
Optional. Only jobs at employers in these industries.
## `educationLevels` (type: `array`):
Optional. Only jobs asking for these education levels.
## `positionTypes` (type: `array`):
Optional. Full time, part time, contract or consultant.
## `remoteOnly` (type: `boolean`):
Only jobs BioSpace lists as working from home.
## `hotbeds` (type: `array`):
Optional. BioSpace's life-science clusters, e.g. Genetown (Boston area), Biotech Bay (San Francisco Bay Area), Pharm Country (New Jersey / New York / Pennsylvania).
## `postedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):
Optional. Only jobs posted in the last N days, e.g. 1 for a daily feed or 7 for a weekly one.
## `sortBy` (type: `string`):
Newest first (default), relevance to your keyword, or distance from the city / ZIP code.
## `maxItemsPerSearch` (type: `integer`):
Cap for each keyword + location combination. 0 = every matching job.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Optional cap for the whole run (across all searches). Leave empty for no overall cap.
## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):
Visits each job's page to add the employer's apply link (Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, the company careers site...), its domain, the employer's BioSpace profile and the description as HTML. Charged per job as "Job details".
## `includeDescription` (type: `boolean`):
The full description text (often 5-15 KB per job). Switch off for smaller, faster exports; the short description is always included.
## `startUrls` (type: `array`):
Optional. BioSpace job-search pages (jobs.biospace.com/search-jobs?... — all their filters are kept) or individual job pages (jobs.biospace.com/job/3081507/...). Job links always include the apply link.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Apify datacenter proxy by default (included in every Apify plan). If BioSpace keeps refusing datacenter IPs, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
