## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## PetSmart & Visions Scraper — Prices, UPCs, Stock (Canada + US)

Get clean, ready-to-use product data from **PetSmart Canada**, **PetSmart US** and **Visions Electronics**: current price, regular price and % off, **UPC barcode per size / flavour**, SKU, brand, online and in-store stock, **number of stores with stock**, ratings, reviews, category and product link.

Search by keyword, scrape whole categories, look up product URLs, or pull the **entire catalog** (PetSmart Canada ≈ 13,000 SKUs, PetSmart US ≈ 35,000 SKUs, Visions ≈ 8,700 products). Turn on **price monitoring** to get only what changed since your last run.

No login needed: no account, no cookies, no API key — just run it.

### What you get

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Store | PetSmart Canada |
| Product | Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Dry Dog Food Adult Salmon & Rice |
| Brand | Purina Pro Plan |
| Size / flavour | 30 Lb · Salmon & Rice |
| SKU · product id | 5252900 · 36648 |
| **UPC** | 038100175526 |
| Price · regular price · % off | 109.99 · 109.99 · — |
| Sale end date | when published |
| Price range of the product | 38.99 – 109.99 |
| Availability | InStock / OutOfStock / InStoreOnly |
| Online stock · in-store stock | true · true |
| **Stores with stock** | 166 (optionally the store numbers) |
| Rating · reviews | 4.5 · 9,088 |
| Category | Dog > Food > Dry Food |
| Promotions | "Buy 1, get 2nd 25% off ALL Dog & Cat Food" |
| Image · URL | product image and page links |

Visions rows also include **condition** (New / Openbox), **clearance** flag and the **model number**. Every row has the same columns whatever the store, so you can combine stores in one spreadsheet.

### How to use it

1. Pick one or more **stores**.
2. Add **search terms** (e.g. `dog food`, `oled tv`), **category page URLs**, **product URLs** — or turn on **Full catalog**.
3. Set **Max products** (per store, per search term / category; `0` = no limit).
4. Run. Results appear in the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "retailers": ["petsmart_ca", "visions"],
  "searchQueries": ["dog food", "air fryer"],
  "categories": ["https://www.petsmart.ca/cat/litter-and-waste-disposal/litter/"],
  "maxItems": 500,
  "oneRowPer": "variant"
}
```

#### Options

- **One row per variant or per product.** *Variant* (default) gives every size / flavour / colour its own row with its own SKU, UPC and exact price — ideal for price tracking and barcode matching. *Product* gives one row per product with a min / max price.
- **Only new or changed products.** Remembers prices and stock between runs with the same input and returns only products that are new, dropped or raised in price, came back in stock or sold out. Each row carries `changeType`, `previousPrice` and `previousAvailability`. Schedule it daily for a price-change feed.
- **Store IDs with stock (PetSmart).** Adds the list of PetSmart store numbers that have each SKU in stock.
- **Product URLs from other stores.** Paste product links from most other online shops and the actor reads their structured product data (name, brand, price, currency, availability, barcode when present).

### Use cases

- **Online arbitrage / Amazon.ca sourcing** — match UPCs against Amazon listings and spot price gaps and clearance deals.
- **Price monitoring** — daily feed of price drops, price increases and stock changes across Canadian pet and electronics retailers.
- **Competitive pricing** for pet-supply and electronics brands and resellers.
- **Assortment and availability research** — which brands a store carries, in how many stores each SKU is stocked, open-box and clearance inventory at Visions.
- **Catalog enrichment** — brand, size, UPC, images and categories for thousands of products in one run.

### Speed and cost

- PetSmart and Visions are fast: a 50-product search takes a few seconds; the full PetSmart Canada catalog (~13,000 SKUs) takes a few minutes.
- You pay per product delivered (plus a small fee when a run starts) — rows without a name or price are never saved, and a run that finds nothing saves nothing.
- **Visions needs residential proxies.** visions.ca only answers residential Canadian IPs. If your Apify account has no access to the RESIDENTIAL proxy group, Visions is skipped and the status message says so; PetSmart works on every account.
- **Short timeouts are fine.** The run stops a little before its timeout, keeps everything it saved and ends successfully; if the timeout was too short to get anything, the status message says what to set.

### Pet Valu was removed

Earlier versions also scraped Pet Valu. petvalu.ca blocks automated visitors, and that part only worked by getting past the site's bot protection, which this actor does not do. Pet Valu inputs (the store, its category or product links) are now skipped with a note in the status message; everything else in the run still works.

### FAQ

**Do I need an account, a login or cookies?** No login needed. The actor reads the same public product pages and search results any visitor sees, without an account, cookies or an API key. Nothing to refresh.

**Is it legal to scrape PetSmart and Visions?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: product listings, prices, stock flags, store counts and aggregate ratings that petsmart.ca, petsmart.com and visions.ca show to any visitor without an account. It doesn't collect personal data: no reviewer names, no review texts, no customer information. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. You must follow the stores' terms and the laws that apply to you. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. It never uses a login, never touches customer accounts and never gets around a site's bot protection — a store or shop that refuses the request is skipped and reported in the status message.

**Why do I get more rows than products?** Variant mode returns one row per size / flavour (each with its own UPC and price). Switch **One row per** to *Product* to get one row per product.

**Can I get every product?** Yes: turn on **Full catalog** and set **Max products** to 0. It works for all three stores.

**What about Pet Valu?** It was removed — see "Pet Valu was removed" above.

**Which category format should I use?** Paste the category page URL from the store's website. For PetSmart and Visions you can also type the category name, like `Dry Food` or `Dog > Food > Dry Food`.

**Are prices in Canadian dollars?** PetSmart Canada and Visions are in CAD; PetSmart US is in USD. Every row has a `currency` field.

**What happens if a store is temporarily unavailable?** The run keeps everything collected so far, finishes successfully and tells you in the status message which requests failed. You are not charged for products that were not delivered. A short summary of every run (counts, proxies used, problems) is saved as `RUN_REPORT` in the run's key-value store.

**Something is missing or broken?** Open an issue on the actor page — fixes are usually quick.

# Actor input Schema

## `retailers` (type: `array`):

Stores to scrape. PetSmart Canada / US work on any Apify account. Visions Electronics only answers residential Canadian IPs, so it needs the RESIDENTIAL proxy group on your Apify account (it is skipped with a clear note otherwise). Product URLs below work for any of these stores even if the store is not selected here.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search in every selected store, e.g. "dog food", "cat litter", "oled tv". Each term returns up to "Max products" results per store.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Category page URLs copied from the store (e.g. https://www.petsmart.ca/dog/food/dry-food/, https://www.visions.ca/shop/category/tv-projectors-media-players-accessories/televisions). You can also type a category name such as "Dry Food" or a path such as "Dog > Food > Dry Food".

## `productUrls` (type: `array`):

Individual product pages. PetSmart and Visions links return every size/flavour of the product with its own SKU, UPC and price. Links from other stores are read from the page's structured product data (works on most modern shops; shops that block automated visitors are skipped).

## `fullCatalog` (type: `boolean`):

Scrape every product of the selected stores (PetSmart Canada ≈ 13,000 SKUs, PetSmart US ≈ 35,000 SKUs, Visions ≈ 8,700 products). Set "Max products" to 0 to get everything.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum products per store for each search term, each category, and for the full catalog. 0 = no limit.

## `oneRowPer` (type: `string`):

"Variant" returns every size / flavour / colour as its own row with its own SKU, UPC and exact price (best for price tracking and UPC matching). "Product" returns one row per product with a price range.

## `onlyChanged` (type: `boolean`):

Remember prices and stock between runs with the same input, and return only products that are new, changed price, or went in/out of stock since the last run. Each row gets changeType, previousPrice and previousAvailability. Schedule the actor to get a daily price-change feed.

## `includeStoreInventory` (type: `boolean`):

Add the list of PetSmart store numbers that have each SKU in stock. The count of stores is always included.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel requests per store. The default is safe.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Leave empty: the actor picks the right Apify proxy for each store automatically (datacenter for PetSmart, residential Canada for Visions). Only fill this in to send traffic through your own proxy URLs first.

  "oneRowPer": "variant",
  "onlyChanged": false,
  "includeStoreInventory": false,
  "concurrency": 4
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `products` (type: `string`):
Every scraped product as JSON.
## `productsCsv` (type: `string`):
The same rows as CSV, for a spreadsheet or price tracker.
## `productsTable` (type: `string`):
Image, store, product, price, sale, stock, UPC and link.
