## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CarDekho Used Cars Scraper: India car prices and dealers

Scrape **CarDekho** (cardekho.com), one of India's biggest used-car marketplaces, in **any city** by **brand and model**. Every listing comes with the **brand, model, variant, year, km driven, price in rupees, fuel, transmission, number of owners, body type, city, the dealer, photos and CarDekho's price rating** ("Great Price", "Fair Price", "Above Market"). Turn on **Include listing details** for the **registration month, insurance type, RTO, seats, engine cc, colour, the full spec sheet, the feature list, all photos, the new-car on-road price and the dealer's street address**. Filter by price, year, km, fuel, transmission, body type, owners and seller type. No login, no cookies, no CarDekho account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Car** | Brand, model, model generation, variant, year, km driven, fuel, transmission, body type, owners |
| **Price** | Asking price (INR) and as shown ("₹6.75 Lakh"), CarDekho price rating, EMI estimate, discount badges |
| **Seller** | Dealer or private, dealer ID, locality, map link and coordinates (dealers), Cars24 / Spinny listings marked |
| **Listing** | Listing URL, main photo, photo count, certified / promoted flags, CarDekho highlights |
| **Listing details** (optional) | Registration month, year of manufacture, insurance, RTO + code (e.g. MH01), seats, engine cc, colour, full specs (power, torque, mileage, dimensions…), features, all photos, new-car on-road price, dealer street address |

### How to use it

1. Add one or more **cities**, e.g. `Mumbai`, `Delhi NCR`, `Bangalore` (`Bengaluru` works too), `Pune`, `Hyderabad`. Leave empty for all of India.
2. Optionally add **brands / models**: `Maruti Swift`, `Hyundai Creta`, `Mahindra XUV700`, or just `Tata`.
3. Set **Max listings** and any filters, then run.

Each brand/model is searched in each city. **Max listings** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches.

#### Input examples

Hyundai Cretas from 2019 on, under ₹12 lakh, automatic, in Mumbai and Pune:

```json
{
  "cities": ["Mumbai", "Pune"],
  "vehicles": ["Hyundai Creta"],
  "yearFrom": 2019,
  "maxPrice": 1200000,
  "transmissions": ["automatic"],
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

Dealer stock of Maruti hatchbacks in Delhi NCR with full details:

```json
{
  "cities": ["Delhi NCR"],
  "vehicles": ["Maruti Swift", "Maruti Baleno", "Maruti Wagon R"],
  "sellerTypes": ["dealer"],
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxItems": 60
}
```

Every car under ₹3 lakh in Chennai, first owner only:

```json
{
  "cities": ["Chennai"],
  "maxPrice": 300000,
  "owners": ["first"],
  "maxItems": 200
}
```

You can also paste CarDekho pages into **CarDekho URLs**: used-car search pages (for example `https://www.cardekho.com/used-maruti-swift+cars+in+bangalore`; a price band or fuel in the URL is kept as a filter) or single listings (`…/used-car-details/…htm`, read with full details).

}
```
The detail fields (`registrationDate` … `photos`, `sellerAddress`) are filled when **Include listing details** is on. Every row has the same columns; a value the listing doesn't state is `null`.
### Use cases
- **Used-car pricing**: compare prices by model, variant, year, km, owners and city.
- **Dealer lead lists**: dealers with their locality, map pin and stock.
- **Inventory monitoring**: schedule a daily run to track a model's supply and prices in your city.
- **Market research**: fuel, transmission and body-type mix by city; EV and CNG supply.
- **Car valuation tools**: feed real asking prices into your own price estimates.
### FAQ
**Do I need a CarDekho account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public pages any visitor sees on cardekho.com. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a search.
**What about private sellers?** CarDekho lists cars from dealers and from private owners. Private owners' listings are included by default but anonymised: only the city is kept — no locality, map pin, address or id. CarDekho itself never shows their names or phone numbers in the listing. Choose **Seller types → Dealers** to leave them out.
**Why are some listings "read" but not saved?** Price, year, km, fuel, transmission, body type, owners and seller type are checked on every listing after it is downloaded, so only listings that match are saved — and only those are charged. Very narrow filters on a broad search read more pages; add a brand, model or city to keep runs fast.
**What if a city or model isn't recognised?** CarDekho shows all of India for a city it doesn't know, so the scraper skips that search, doesn't charge for it, and names it in the run's status message. A model written differently (`WagonR` → `Wagon R`) is matched to CarDekho's own name automatically.
**How fast is it?** A results page holds 20 listings and takes about a second: 1,000 listings take about a minute and a half. **Include listing details** opens each listing's page as well — about one more second per listing.
**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If CarDekho refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.
**What does a run cost?** You pay per listing saved, per search, and a small fee per run; listing details are a separate, optional charge. See the Pricing tab. Listings filtered out are never charged.
**Is it legal to scrape CarDekho?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: used-car listings that anyone can see on cardekho.com without an account, such as the car, its price, photos and the selling dealer's business details. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Private owners' listings are included without their locality, map location, address or ids. You must follow privacy laws such as India's DPDP Act, GDPR and CCPA, as well as CarDekho's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages CarDekho shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never submits the "View Seller Details" form and follows the site's robots.txt (it never uses the query-string search URLs or the internal API that robots.txt asks crawlers to avoid).
This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by CarDekho or Girnar Software. "CarDekho" is a trademark of its owner, used here only to describe the data the Actor works with.
# Actor input Schema
## `cities` (type: `array`):
Indian cities as CarDekho names them, e.g. "Mumbai", "Delhi NCR", "Bangalore" ("Bengaluru" works too), "Pune", "Hyderabad". Leave empty to search all of India. A city CarDekho doesn't know is skipped (and not charged) instead of returning cars from everywhere.
## `vehicles` (type: `array`):
Brand, or brand and model, e.g. "Maruti Swift", "Hyundai Creta", "Mahindra XUV700", "Tata". Leave empty for all cars. Each one is searched separately (and in each city). A model CarDekho spells differently ("WagonR" → "Wagon R") is matched to its own name automatically.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of listings for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches (a search that finds fewer leaves its share to the others). 0 = everything.
## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):
Also open every listing's own page for the registration month, insurance type, RTO, seats, engine cc, colour, the full spec sheet, the feature list, all photos, the new-car on-road price and the dealer's street address. Adds about one second per listing and a small per-listing charge.
## `sellerTypes` (type: `array`):
Dealers (incl. Cars24 / Spinny) and private sellers by default. Private sellers are anonymised: city only — no locality, map pin, address or ids.
## `minPrice` (type: `integer`):
Lowest price in rupees, e.g. 300000 for ₹3 lakh.
## `maxPrice` (type: `integer`):
Highest price in rupees, e.g. 800000 for ₹8 lakh.
## `yearFrom` (type: `integer`):
Oldest model year, e.g. 2018.
## `yearTo` (type: `integer`):
Newest model year.
## `maxKm` (type: `integer`):
Highest odometer reading in km.
## `fuels` (type: `array`):
Empty = all.
## `transmissions` (type: `array`):
Empty = both.
## `bodyTypes` (type: `array`):
Empty = all.
## `owners` (type: `array`):
Empty = any.
## `startUrls` (type: `array`):
Optional: used-car search pages copied from cardekho.com (e.g. https://www.cardekho.com/used-maruti-swift+cars+in+bangalore — price and fuel in the URL are kept as filters) or listing pages (…/used-car-details/…htm, read with full details).
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If CarDekho refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
