## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Dice Jobs Scraper: tech jobs, salaries and skills

Scrape **Dice.com**, the US tech job board, by keyword and location. Every job comes with the **title, company, location, remote / hybrid / on-site, full-time or contract, salary range, posted date, the full description and the skills list**. Filter by date posted, workplace, employment type, employer type (direct hire or recruiter), Easy Apply and visa sponsorship. No login, no cookies, no Dice account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Job** | Title, company, company logo, job URL, posted and updated dates, closing date |
| **Location** | City, state, country, all locations of the job, remote flag |
| **Workplace** | Remote, Hybrid and/or On-site |
| **Employment** | Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Third Party (C2C), and whether it's a direct hire or a recruiter |
| **Salary** | The salary as shown, plus parsed **min, max, currency and period** (hour / year …) |
| **Description** | The full job description as plain text and as HTML |
| **Skills** | The skills Dice lists on the job, e.g. Python, Databricks, Kubernetes |
| **Apply** | Easy Apply or external application |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **keywords** (job titles or skills), e.g. `data engineer`, `python developer`.
2. Optionally enter a **location** such as `Houston, TX` or `Toronto, ON` (add more under **More locations**). Leave it empty to search all of Dice.
3. Set **Max jobs** and any filters, then run.

Each keyword is searched in each location. **Max jobs** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches. With **Full job details** on (the default), every job page is opened for the full description and the skills; turn it off for a faster listing-only run.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "keywords": ["data engineer", "machine learning engineer"],
  "location": "Austin, TX",
  "maxItems": 200,
  "postedWithin": "7",
  "workplaceTypes": ["Remote", "Hybrid"],
  "employmentType": ["FULLTIME"]
}
```

Only contract roles open to Easy Apply, within 50 miles of New York:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["devops"],
  "location": "New York, NY",
  "radius": 50,
  "employmentType": ["CONTRACTS"],
  "easyApplyOnly": true,
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

You can also paste Dice search URLs or job URLs into **Dice URLs**.

### Output example

```json
{
  "site": "dice",
  "jobId": "6d7d70b9-13c9-4a68-b57f-378f6bdb28b0",
  "title": "Data Solutions AI Application Developer II",
  "company": "CareSource",
  "location": "Dayton, Ohio, USA",
  "city": "Dayton",
  "state": "Ohio",
  "country": "United States",
  "workplaceType": "Remote, On-site",
  "isRemote": true,
  "employmentType": "Full-time",
  "employerType": "Direct Hire",
  "salaryText": "USD 83,000.00 - 132,800.00 per year",
  "salaryMin": 83000,
  "salaryMax": 132800,
  "salaryCurrency": "USD",
  "salaryPeriod": "year",
  "postedDate": "2026-09-24T21:01:12.000Z",
  "expiresDate": "2026-11-01T11:04:31.000Z",
  "description": "Job Summary:\n\nThe Data Solutions AI Application Developer II is responsible for developing, configuring, testing, and deploying AI-enabled applications …",
  "skills": ["Python", "Databricks", "React.js", "Node.js", "SQL", "Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)"],
  "easyApply": false,
  "applyType": "External",
  "url": "https://www.dice.com/job-detail/6d7d70b9-13c9-4a68-b57f-378f6bdb28b0",
  "searchKeyword": "Python Developer",
  "searchLocation": "Houston, TX",
  "position": 16,
  "detailsFetched": true,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-01T20:02:19.113Z"
}
```

Every row has the same columns; a value the job doesn't state is `null`.

### Use cases

- **Tech recruiting and sourcing**: see who is hiring for a skill in a city, and which jobs are posted by recruiters.
- **Salary benchmarking**: compare hourly contract rates and yearly salaries by title, skill and location.
- **Skills demand**: count the skills employers ask for across hundreds of jobs.
- **Job alerts and lead lists**: schedule a daily run with **Posted within: Today**.
- **Job board aggregation**: feed Dice jobs into your own site or newsletter.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Dice account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public job pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a search.

**How many jobs can I get?** Up to 10,000 per search (Dice shows 20 per page). Set **Max jobs** to 0 to get everything your searches find. Add filters or more specific keywords to split very large searches.

**How fast is it?** About 10 jobs per second in listing-only mode, and roughly 100 jobs a minute with full details (one job page per job).

**Why is a location skipped?** If Dice doesn't recognise a place (a typo, or a city it doesn't know), it silently ignores it and returns jobs from everywhere. The scraper detects this, skips that search, doesn't charge for it, and says so in the run's status message. Use "City, ST", e.g. `Houston, TX`.

**Why is the apply URL empty?** Dice sends external applications through a redirect that its robots.txt asks crawlers not to follow, so the scraper doesn't collect it. Use the job `url` (the Apply button is there) and `applyType` to see whether it's Easy Apply or external.

**Why are some salaries only text?** Employers write salaries freely ("Depends on Experience", "70 - 80"). The original text is always in `salaryText`; min, max, currency and period are filled only when the text says them.

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If Dice refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**What does a run cost?** You pay per job saved, plus a tiny fee per search and per run. See the Pricing tab. Jobs that are skipped or filtered out are never charged.

**Is it legal to scrape Dice?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: job postings that anyone can see on dice.com without an account, such as the job title, company, location, salary, description and skills. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Job postings describe roles, not people, but a description written by the employer or recruiter can occasionally mention a contact person by name; the scraper removes personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers from descriptions. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Dice's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Dice shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches candidate profiles, applications or private accounts, and follows dice.com's robots.txt.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Job titles or skills to search on Dice, e.g. "data engineer", "python developer", "devops". Each keyword is searched separately (and in each location).

## `location` (type: `string`):

City and state ("Houston, TX"), a state ("Texas") or a Canadian city ("Toronto, ON"). Leave empty to search all of Dice. Like dice.com, results include remote jobs. A place Dice doesn't recognise is skipped (and not charged) instead of returning jobs from everywhere.

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Run the same keywords in several places, e.g. "Austin, TX", "New York, NY".

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of jobs for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches (a search that finds fewer leaves its share to the others). 0 = everything.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open every job page for the full description and the skills list. Turn it off for a faster listing-only run (title, company, location, salary, dates and the first ~500 characters of the description).

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional: Dice search URLs (filters in the URL are kept) or job URLs (https://www.dice.com/job-detail/…).

## `postedWithin` (type: `string`):

Only jobs posted in this period.

## `workplaceTypes` (type: `array`):

Remote, hybrid and/or on-site. Empty = all.

## `employmentType` (type: `array`):

Full-time, part-time, contract and/or third party (corp-to-corp). Empty = all.

## `employerType` (type: `array`):

Jobs posted by the employer directly, by recruiters, or other. Empty = all.

## `easyApplyOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only jobs you can apply to with Dice Easy Apply.

## `willingToSponsorOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only jobs whose employer is willing to sponsor a work visa.

## `radius` (type: `integer`):

How far from the location to search. Empty = Dice's default (30 miles).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If Dice refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many job pages to load at the same time (1–10).
