## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Gumtree Scraper: UK classified ads, prices and photos

Scrape **Gumtree UK** ads by keyword, category and location. Every ad comes with its **title, price, condition, category, area and town, photos, posted date, delivery and payment options, all item attributes (brand, colour, size, mileage …) and whether the seller is private or trade**. Turn on **ad details** to add the **full description, the full category path, the expiry date and video links**. Big searches are automatically split into smaller areas and sub-categories, so you get far more than the first page. No login, no cookies, no Gumtree account.

This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Gumtree.com or its owners.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Ad** | Gumtree ad number, URL, title, status, featured / urgent / spotlight / bumped-up flags, how many people saved it |
| **Price** | Asking price as a number, the price text as shown (`£1,200pm`), currency, and the frequency for rents and services (week, month …) |
| **Item** | Condition, category and category id, every attribute Gumtree shows (brand, colour, material, size, mileage, fuel, bedrooms …) |
| **Location** | Area and town as shown on the ad (`Lewisham, London`), distance in miles from the place you searched |
| **Dates** | Posted time (exact), "3 days ago"; with details also last update and expiry |
| **Media** | Main photo, all photo URLs, photo count, video flag (video links with details) |
| **Delivery** | Postage / delivery available, collection only, delivery and payment options |
| **Seller** | Private or trade only — **never who the seller is** |
| **Ad details** (optional) | Full description (search results show ~250 characters), full category path, last update, expiry date, video links |

### How to use it

1. Enter **Keywords** (e.g. `brompton`, `lego technic`), one or more **Categories** (e.g. `bicycles`, `sofas`, `mobile-phones`, `cars`), or both.
2. Enter one or more **Locations**: a town, city, area or region as Gumtree writes it (`London`, `Manchester`, `Central London`, `Shoreditch`, `Scotland`). Leave empty for the whole UK.
3. Set **Max ads** and any filters, then run.

Every keyword × category × location combination is searched separately. **Max ads** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches. An ad found by two searches is saved once.

#### Input examples

Bikes for sale in London (the prefill):

```json
{
  "categories": ["bicycles"],
  "locations": ["London"],
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

A keyword in several cities, new or like-new only, £200–£800, with the full description:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["brompton"],
  "locations": ["London", "Manchester", "Edinburgh"],
  "conditions": ["new", "as_good_as_new"],
  "minPrice": 200,
  "maxPrice": 800,
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxItems": 300
}
```

Everything in a category across the UK posted in the last day (schedule it daily as a new-ads feed):

```json
{
  "categories": ["sofas"],
  "postedWithinDays": 1,
  "maxItems": 0
}
```

Trade sellers only:

```json
{
  "categories": ["mobile-phones"],
  "locations": ["Birmingham"],
  "sellerType": "trade",
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

You can also paste Gumtree links into **Gumtree links**: category or search pages such as `https://www.gumtree.com/for-sale/sports-leisure-travel/bicycles/uk/london`, search links such as `https://www.gumtree.com/search?search_category=bicycles&search_location=london&q=carbon` (turned into the same search), or single ads such as `https://www.gumtree.com/p/mountain-bikes/gradient-bike/1800759820`.

  "title": "LEGO Technic Car Models & Assorted Bricks - Good Condition",
  "description": "A collection of LEGO Technic car models, including a blue race car and a yellow Jeep Rubicon. …",
  "descriptionIsFull": true,
  "price": 20,
  "priceText": "£20.00",
  "currency": "GBP",
  "priceFrequency": null,
  "condition": "Good condition",
  "category": "Blocks & Building Toys",

  "imageUrl": "https://img.gumtree.com/…/86",
  "imageCount": 8,
  "featured": false,
  "deliveryAvailable": true,
  "attributes": {
    "Condition": "Good condition",
    "Parcel Size": "Small",
    "Colour": "Multicoloured",
    "Material": "Plastic",
    "Seller type": "Private",
    "Delivery available": "True"
  },
  "status": "LIVE",
  "searchKeyword": "lego technic",

  "position": 3,
  "hasDetails": true,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-01T23:33:02.160Z"
}
```
Every row has the same columns; a value the ad doesn't state is `null`. Columns marked "with ad details" in the dataset schema are filled when **Include ad details** is on (or for a pasted ad link).
### Use cases
- **Resale and price research**: what used bikes, phones, furniture or tools really sell for, by condition, brand and area.
- **Sourcing and flipping**: find underpriced items in your area every morning with **Posted within: 1**.
- **Market monitoring**: track supply and prices in a category across UK cities.
- **Trade intelligence**: see what trade sellers list, where and at what price.
- **Data for apps and analysis**: clean rows with prices as numbers, exact posted times and photos.
### FAQ
**Do I need a Gumtree account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a keyword, a category, a location or a link.
**Why does a search of 7,000 ads return fewer?** Gumtree lets crawlers read only the **first page** (about 30 ads) of each search, and this scraper respects that. To go further it uses Gumtree's own smaller searches: a city is split into its areas (London → Central London → Shoreditch …), then into sub-categories (Bicycles → Road Bikes …), then by condition, each with its own first page, guided by Gumtree's own counts. Most searches of a few hundred to a few thousand ads are covered almost completely; for very big ones, narrow the location or category. The run's status message says how many of the search's ads could be reached.
**Which places and categories can I use?** Places as Gumtree writes them: towns, cities, London areas, counties and regions (`Manchester`, `Central London`, `Kent`, `Wales`). Categories as they appear in Gumtree links: `bicycles`, `sofas`, `mobile-phones`, `cars`, `for-sale` (everything for sale). You can also paste any Gumtree category link. A place or category Gumtree doesn't recognise is skipped, not charged, and named in the run's status message.
**How fast is it?** A result page takes about a second and holds up to 30 ads, so 1,000 ads take roughly one to two minutes. **Include ad details** opens each ad's own page, about one or two ads per second.
**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If Gumtree refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to UK residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.
**What does a run cost?** A small fee per run, per result page read, per ad saved, and per ad whose details were loaded. See the Pricing tab. Ads removed by your filters, unknown places and duplicates are never charged as ads.
**Does it collect seller names or phone numbers?** No. Gumtree is mostly private individuals, so the scraper keeps item data only: no seller names, usernames, profile links, ratings, phone numbers or e-mails, no exact postcode and no map position. It never uses Gumtree's "show number" or contact features, and it masks phone numbers and e-mail addresses that sellers type into titles and descriptions (`[phone removed]`). It only tells you whether a seller is private or trade.
**Is it legal to scrape Gumtree?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: classified ads that anyone can see on Gumtree without an account, such as the title, price, condition, category, area and photos. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Ads on Gumtree are placed by private individuals and businesses: the scraper never collects a seller's name, profile, phone number or e-mail, and it removes phone numbers and e-mail addresses from ad texts. You must follow privacy laws such as UK GDPR, as well as Gumtree's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Gumtree shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches user accounts, messages or saved searches, and follows the site's robots.txt.
# Actor input Schema
## `keywords` (type: `array`):
What to search for, e.g. "brompton", "lego technic", "iphone 15". Each keyword is searched separately. Leave empty to browse a category.
## `categories` (type: `array`):
Gumtree categories as they appear in Gumtree links, e.g. "bicycles", "sofas", "mobile-phones", "cars", "for-sale". A full path or a Gumtree category link works too. Empty with keywords = all categories; empty without keywords = everything for sale.
## `locations` (type: `array`):
Towns, cities, areas or regions as Gumtree writes them, e.g. "London", "Manchester", "Central London", "Shoreditch", "Scotland". Each location is searched separately. Empty = the whole UK. A place Gumtree doesn't recognise is skipped, not charged.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of ads for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches. 0 = as many as can be reached.
## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):
Also open every ad's own page for the full description (search results show ~250 characters), the full category path, the expiry date, last update and video links. Slower (one extra page per ad) and charged per ad.
## `startUrls` (type: `array`):
Optional: Gumtree search or category pages (e.g. https://www.gumtree.com/for-sale/sports-leisure-travel/bicycles/uk/london or a gumtree.com/search?q=… link, which is turned into the same search) or single ads (https://www.gumtree.com/p/…/1800759820).
## `splitSearches` (type: `boolean`):
Gumtree lets crawlers read only the first page (about 30 ads) of each search. With this on, a bigger search is split into the smaller areas, sub-categories and conditions Gumtree itself lists, each with its own first page, until Max ads is reached. Turn off to read only the first page of each search.
## `conditions` (type: `array`):
Only items in these conditions (for-sale categories). Empty = any.
## `sellerType` (type: `string`):
Private sellers, trade sellers or both. Who the seller is (name, profile, phone, e-mail) is never collected.
## `minPrice` (type: `integer`):
Only ads at or above this price.
## `maxPrice` (type: `integer`):
Only ads at or below this price.
## `postedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):
Only ads posted in the last N days. Empty = any time.
## `maxPagesPerSearch` (type: `integer`):
Each result page holds up to 30 ads. A split search stops after this many pages. 0 = default (100 with a price or date filter, otherwise as many as Max ads needs).
## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):
Pages read at the same time (1–4). The default 2 is polite and fast enough for most runs.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If Gumtree refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to UK residential proxies when your account has them.
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

All scraped ads.
