## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Hostelworld Scraper: hostels, prices, ratings and facilities

Scrape **Hostelworld** hostels, hotels and B\&Bs for any city, or for **every city in a country** at once. Each property comes with its **name, type, address, coordinates, overall rating and 7 sub-ratings, review count, the cheapest dorm bed and private room price per night in the currency you choose, badges and photos**. Turn on property page details to add **every facility, check-in and check-out times, free cancellation, pets, age limits, curfew, house rules, payment methods, awards and current promotions**. No login, no cookies, no Hostelworld account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Property** | Hostelworld ID, name, type (Hostel, Hotel, Guesthouse…), property page URL, main photo and photos |
| **Location** | Street address, postcode (with details), city, country, continent, latitude/longitude, distance from the city centre |
| **Ratings** | Overall rating (0–10), number of reviews, and the security, location, staff, atmosphere, cleanliness, value-for-money and facilities ratings |
| **Prices** | Cheapest dorm bed and cheapest private room per night, in **any of 65+ currencies** |
| **Badges** | e.g. Free WiFi, Breakfast Included, sustainability level |
| **Property page details** (optional) | Full description, Hostelworld's summary, directions, **every facility grouped by category**, check-in from/until, check-out until, free cancellation and how many days before, taxes included, pets, children, age restriction, curfew, house rules, payment methods, Hostelworld awards, active promotions (discount %), deposit, bookings today, Hostelworld's AI summary of guest reviews |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **cities**, e.g. `Lisbon`, `Porto, Portugal`, `Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam`. Add the country when a city name exists in several countries.
2. Or enter whole **countries**, e.g. `Portugal`, `Thailand`, `UK` — every city, most popular first.
3. Choose the **property type** (hostels, hotels or bed & breakfasts), the **currency** and **Max properties**, then run.

**Max properties** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your cities and countries.

#### Input examples

```
Every row has the same columns; a value Hostelworld doesn't show is `null`. Fields marked "with details" in the dataset are filled when **Include property page details** is on (or for property URLs, which are always read in full).
### Use cases
- **Price monitoring**: track dorm and private room prices by city over time with a scheduled run.
- **Market research**: compare ratings, prices and facilities of every hostel in a city or country.
- **Travel content and apps**: build "best hostels in…" lists, maps and comparisons from fresh data.
- **Sales lead lists**: hostels, small hotels and B\&Bs by city, with address and coordinates, for travel-tech, POS, linen or booking-software vendors.
- **Revenue management**: benchmark your property against competitors' ratings, sub-ratings and promotions.
### FAQ
**Do I need a Hostelworld account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a city, a country or a URL.
**Which dates are the prices for?** Hostelworld's city pages show each property's lowest dorm and private prices for the upcoming nights, without dates. They're good for comparing properties and tracking price levels, not a quote for a specific stay.
**Can I get prices in my currency?** Yes. Pick any of 65+ currencies under **Currency**; Hostelworld converts the prices. Every row says which currency it is in.
**How do I get every hostel in a country?** Put the country under **Whole countries** and set **Max properties** to 0. The scraper reads each city's list, most popular city first. Hostelworld splits the UK into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; `UK` covers all four.
**Why was a city skipped?** If Hostelworld has no page for a name, the run says so and doesn't charge for it. Check the spelling, or add the country (`Porto, Portugal`). Accents don't matter (`Kraków` works).
**How fast is it?** Each city page holds 30 properties and loads in 1–2 seconds, so 1,000 properties take about a minute. Property page details add one request per property (three run in parallel), roughly 2 properties a second.
**Does it scrape guest reviews?** No. It returns each property's rating, sub-ratings, review count and Hostelworld's own summary of the reviews, but never individual reviews, reviewer names or nationalities.
**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If Hostelworld refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.
**What does a run cost?** You pay per property saved, per city list read, a small fee per run, and per property page read when details are on. See the Pricing tab. Properties left out by your rating or review filters are never charged, nor are cities Hostelworld doesn't have.
**Is it legal to scrape Hostelworld?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: property listings that anyone can see on Hostelworld without an account, such as a property's name, address, prices, ratings, facilities and policies. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Hostels, hotels and B\&Bs are businesses; the scraper doesn't collect guest reviews or anything about individual travellers, and it removes personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers from property descriptions. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Hostelworld's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Hostelworld shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches bookings or accounts, and follows the site's robots.txt.
This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hostelworld.
Also open every property page for the postcode, full description, all photos, every facility (grouped), check-in and check-out times, free cancellation, pets, age limits, curfew, house rules, payment methods, awards, current promotions and Hostelworld’s review summary. One extra request per property, charged separately.
## `minRating` (type: `number`):
