## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Instagram Comments Scraper — All Comments, No Login

Get **every public comment** on Instagram posts and reels: the text, likes, date and commenter. You don't need an account, cookies or an API key. Sort by the most-liked comments, or keep only comments that match your keywords, like count or date range. Comments that don't match are never charged.

Paste post or reel links. You can also paste a profile link to collect comments from that profile's latest posts.

### Why this one

- **All comments, not a sample.** Instagram shows every public comment to logged-out visitors, and this Actor keeps paging until the thread ends, up to about 4,800 comments per post. On a test reel it collected all 617 of 617 comments, none duplicated. Users of other comment scrapers report getting about 15 comments per post.
- **Top comments first.** `sort: "top"` reads up to 2,000 comments per post and returns the most-liked ones. That's the fastest way to see what an audience actually agrees with.
- **You pay only for comments you keep.** Minimum likes, keyword and date filters run before billing.
- **No login, no cookies, no account risk.** The Actor only reads public data that anyone can see.
- **$1.90 per 1,000 comments, less on bigger Apify plans** (down to $0.60 per 1,000). No start fee. It runs on the same engine as [yugenox/instagram-scraper](https://apify.com/yugenox/instagram-scraper).

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `postUrls` | Post or reel URLs (`/p/…/`, `/reel/…/`). A profile URL collects comments from its latest posts. |
| `maxComments` | Comments per post (default 100). With filters, this counts only comments that match. |
| `sort` | `newest` (Instagram's order) or `top` (most-liked first). |
| `minLikes` | Keep only comments with at least this many likes. |
| `keywords` | Keep only comments that contain any of these words (case-insensitive), for example `price`, `where`, `broken`, or a brand name. |
| `newerThan` | Only comments after a date (`2026-09-01`) or within a period (`7 days`, `24 hours`). |
| `maxItems` | Hard cap on comments across the whole run (default 1,000). This limits your cost. |

```json
{
  "postUrls": ["https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ddl5eH-u4le/"],
  "maxComments": 200,
  "sort": "top",
  "minLikes": 5
}
```

### Output

Each row is one comment. Example row (values shortened):

```json
{
  "dataType": "comment",
  "id": "18019920755896866",
  "text": "This is the best explanation I've seen",
  "createdAt": "2026-09-26T12:23:49.000Z",
  "likeCount": 41,
  "replyCount": null,
  "owner": { "id": "7994326072", "username": "some_commenter", "isVerified": false, "profilePicUrl": "https://…" },
  "postId": "3991849403537918302",
  "postCode": "Ddl5eH-u4le",
  "postUrl": "https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ddl5eH-u4le/"
}
```

When the post's owner is known, rows also carry `postOwnerUsername` and `isPostOwner`, which is true when the comment is by the post's creator.

### Pricing

**$1.90 per 1,000 comments ($0.0019 each), with volume discounts by Apify plan.** These are the same prices as [yugenox/instagram-scraper](https://apify.com/yugenox/instagram-scraper).

| Your Apify plan (discount tier) | Per comment | Per 1,000 comments |
|---|---:|---:|
| Free (FREE) | $0.0019 | $1.90 |
| Starter (BRONZE) | $0.0019 | $1.90 |
| Scale (SILVER) | $0.0015 | $1.50 |
| Business (GOLD) | $0.0011 | $1.10 |
| Enterprise (PLATINUM) | $0.0008 | $0.80 |
| Enterprise (DIAMOND) | $0.0006 | $0.60 |

- **You pay only for saved comments.** There is no start fee, and comments your filters skip are never charged.
- **Your spending limit is respected up front:** the run stops exactly at the number of comments your limit covers.
- **Example:** 5 posts × 200 comments = 1,000 comments = **$1.90** on Free and Starter ($1.50 on Scale, $1.10 on Business).
- Free Apify plans are limited to 100 comments per run.
- The pricing tab also lists `transcript-minute` and `creator-report`. Those are optional add-ons of the shared engine, and comment runs never use them.

### FAQ

**Do I need an Instagram account or cookies?** No.

**Can I get replies to comments?** No. Instagram shows replies, and how many replies a comment has, only to logged-in users, so they can't be read anonymously. `replyCount` is always `null`.

**Why do I get fewer comments than the post's comment count?** Instagram's count includes replies, plus comments that are hidden, restricted or deleted. None of those are visible to the public.

**Can I monitor new comments?** Yes. Schedule the Actor with `newerThan: "24 hours"` and each run returns only the new comments.

**Is it legal to scrape Instagram?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: posts, reels and profiles from public Instagram accounts, which anyone can see without logging in. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Results can include usernames, profile details, captions and comments from public accounts, and that counts as personal data. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Instagram's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

If you contact people you find in the comments, anti-spam laws apply: CASL in Canada, CAN-SPAM in the US, and GDPR/ePrivacy in the EU. Get consent before sending commercial messages.

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Instagram shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches private or restricted accounts, and never reaches password-protected areas. Private accounts are never accessed.

# Actor input Schema

## `postUrls` (type: `array`):

Instagram post or reel URLs (https://www.instagram.com/p/…/ or /reel/…/). A profile URL collects comments from that profile's latest posts.

## `maxComments` (type: `integer`):

How many comments to save from each post. Instagram shows every public comment to logged-out visitors, so there is no 15-comment cap: up to about 4,800 per post. With filters, this counts matching comments.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Newest first (Instagram's order), or the most-liked comments first. "Top" reads up to 2,000 comments per post to find the most-liked ones; you only pay for the ones saved.

## `minLikes` (type: `integer`):

Only keep comments with at least this many likes. Skipped comments are free.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Keep only comments that contain any of these words or phrases (case-insensitive). Great for questions ("price", "where"), complaints or brand mentions. Skipped comments are free.

## `newerThan` (type: `string`):

Only comments posted after this date (YYYY-MM-DD) or within a period such as "7 days" or "24 hours". Paging stops at the first older comment.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many comments across all posts — a hard cap on the cost of the run.
