## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## MFG.com Scraper: contract manufacturers and job shops

Scrape the **MFG.com manufacturer directory**, the B2B marketplace where buyers source custom parts, by **capability** (CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal, 3D printing, stamping, die casting and 40 more) and **location** (US state, city, Canadian province, country). You get the **company, type (job shop, contract manufacturer…), employee band, buyer rating and review count, RFQs awarded, MFG Verified status, badges, capabilities and the company description**. Optionally add the **street address, postal code, map coordinates, business phone, website, D-U-N-S number, CAGE code, certifications, sub-capabilities, industries, materials and equipment**. Filter by certification (ISO 9001, AS 9100, ITAR…), material and minimum rating. No login, no cookies, no MFG account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Company** | Name, MFG ID, profile URL, company type, employee band, about text |
| **Location** | City, state / province, country |
| **Reputation** | Buyer rating (1–5) and review count, RFQs awarded on MFG, "Buyer Favorite" and "Big Quoter" ranks, MFG Verified, time on MFG |
| **Capabilities** | Top-level capabilities (Machining, Fabrication…), and with profile details the detailed ones (CNC Machining, Welding, Laser Cutting…) |
| **Badges and tags** | Certification families (AS, ISO), membership level, "United States-Based Manufacturing" and other tags |
| **Profile details** (optional) | Street address, postal code, latitude / longitude, business phone, website, D-U-N-S number, CAGE code, member since, full certification list, industries, materials, equipment, languages, photos |

### How to use it

1. Pick one or more **capabilities**, e.g. `CNC Machining`, `Injection Molding`, `Sheet Metal`.
2. Optionally add **locations**: `Texas`, `Houston, Texas`, `Houston, TX`, `Ontario`, `Toronto, ON`, `Germany`.
3. Set **Max manufacturers**, turn on **Include profile details** if you need addresses, phones and websites, and run.

Each capability is searched in each location. **Max manufacturers** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches. A manufacturer found by several searches is saved once.

#### Input examples

Without profile details, the address, phone, website, D-U-N-S, CAGE, certification list, sub-capabilities, industries, materials, equipment and photos are empty. Everything else is filled from the directory listing. Every row has the same columns; a value the manufacturer doesn't publish is `null` or `[]`.

### Use cases

- **Sourcing and procurement**: shortlist machine shops, molders or fabricators by capability, location, certification and buyer rating.
- **Supplier diversification and nearshoring**: find US, Canadian and Mexican manufacturers for a part family.
- **Sales prospecting**: build lead lists of job shops for tooling, materials, software or equipment, with phone, website and D-U-N-S.
- **Government and defense supply chains**: find ITAR-registered, AS 9100-certified shops with CAGE codes.
- **Market research**: count manufacturers by capability, region, size band and certification.

### FAQ

**Do I need an MFG account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public directory and profile pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a search.

**Why do I have to pick a capability?** MFG's directory always searches by capability. Pick several to cover more ground; manufacturers found by more than one are saved once. Leaving the capabilities empty ends the run at once with a message; nothing is scraped, so only the run's start fee applies.

**How do locations work?** Write a state, province, country or city the way you'd say it: `Texas`, `Houston, TX`, `Toronto, ON`, `Germany`. The scraper matches it to MFG's own list of places. A place MFG doesn't list is skipped (and not charged), and the status message says so. If a name is ambiguous (there is an Ontario in California), add the state or country: `Ontario, Canada`.

**What is the "Manufacturing region"?** MFG's own region filter (United States, Canada, Asia, Europe, Mexico / South America). You usually don't need it: the scraper picks the region that matches each location you enter.

**How fast is it?** A directory page holds 25 manufacturers and takes about 3 seconds, so 1,000 manufacturers take about 2 minutes. **Include profile details** opens one more page per manufacturer (about 1–2 seconds each, 3 in parallel).

**How many manufacturers can I get?** Up to 10,000 per search (MFG's limit). Set **Max manufacturers** to 0 to get everything your searches find. Split very large searches by location or certification.

**Are reviews included?** The rating and the number of reviews are. MFG shows the review texts only to signed-in members, so the scraper doesn't collect them (nor any reviewer's name).

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If MFG refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**What does a run cost?** You pay per manufacturer saved, per search run, and a small fee per run; profile details are a separate, optional charge per manufacturer. See the Pricing tab. Manufacturers that are skipped, duplicates and places MFG doesn't list are never charged.

**Is it legal to scrape MFG.com?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: business listings that anyone can see on MFG.com without an account, such as the company name, location, capabilities, certifications and the contact details the company publishes. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. The data describes companies, not private people; the scraper does not collect review texts or reviewers' names, and it masks personal-looking e-mail addresses in company descriptions. You must follow privacy and anti-spam laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA and CAN-SPAM, as well as MFG's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages MFG shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches RFQs, messages or member accounts, never visits the manufacturers' own websites, and follows MFG's robots.txt.

**Is this an official MFG product?** No. This scraper is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by MFG.com. "MFG" is used only to describe the website the data comes from.

# Actor input Schema

## `capabilities` (type: `array`):

What the manufacturers should be able to make. Each capability is searched separately (and in each location); a manufacturer found by several is saved once. Leave empty to search every capability.

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Where the manufacturer is located: a US state, Canadian province, country or city, e.g. "Texas", "Houston, Texas", "Houston, TX", "Ontario", "Toronto, ON", "Germany". Each location is searched separately. A place MFG doesn't list is skipped (and not charged).

## `region` (type: `string`):

Where the parts are made (MFG's "Manufacturing Location" filter).

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Optional: MFG's own directory search, which mostly matches company names, e.g. "precision". MFG turns some words into a capability search instead ("aerospace" → Machining); the run tells you when that happens.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of manufacturers for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches (a search that finds fewer leaves its share to the others). 0 = everything (MFG shows at most 10,000 per search).

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Also open each manufacturer's MFG profile for the street address, postal code, map coordinates, business phone, website, D-U-N-S number, CAGE code, member-since date, the full certification list, sub-capabilities (e.g. CNC Machining under Machining), industries, materials, equipment, languages and photos. One extra page per manufacturer, charged separately.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional: MFG directory URLs (all the filters in the URL are kept) or manufacturer profile URLs (www.mfg.com/manufacturer/…). Profile URLs always come with full profile details.

## `certification` (type: `string`):

Only manufacturers with this certification, as MFG names it, e.g. "ISO 9001", "ISO 9001:2015", "AS 9100", "ITAR", "NADCAP", "IATF 16949", "ISO 13485".

## `material` (type: `string`):

Only manufacturers that work this material, e.g. "Aluminum", "Stainless Steel", "Titanium", "Inconel", "Thermoplastic".

## `minRating` (type: `string`):

Only manufacturers rated this high by MFG buyers (most manufacturers have no rating yet, so this narrows results a lot).

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many profile pages to read at the same time (with "Include profile details").

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If MFG refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
