## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## OnTheMarket Scraper: UK property for sale and to rent

Scrape **OnTheMarket.com**, the UK property portal, by **town, city, area or postcode district** — homes for sale or to rent. Every listing comes with the **price and price qualifier** (guide price, offers over…), monthly and weekly rent for lettings, bedrooms, bathrooms, **street and postcode district**, map coordinates, **tenure**, labels such as *reduced* or *only on OnTheMarket*, the **estate agent branch with its phone number**, and photos. Optionally add the full description, **EPC rating, floor area**, council tax, broadband speed, nearest stations and schools, floorplans and virtual tours. Filter by property type, price, bedrooms and how recently a listing was added. No login, no cookies, no OnTheMarket account.

OnTheMarket shows at most 1,000 results per search. When a location has more, this scraper **carries on area by area** (London → East London → Hackney…), so large cities come through complete, with duplicates removed.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Listing** | Title, property type (flat, terraced house, detached house…), listing URL, photos, features |
| **Price** | Price in £ and as shown, qualifier (guide price, offers over…), short price; for rentals the monthly rent, period and weekly equivalent |
| **Property** | Bedrooms, bathrooms, tenure (freehold / leasehold with years left) |
| **Location** | Street and town, postcode district (e.g. `SW11`), latitude and longitude |
| **Labels** | Added / reduced (and when), reduced, recently added, only on OnTheMarket, spotlight, premium, virtual tour |
| **Agent** | Branch name, phone, logo and OnTheMarket branch page |
| **Property details** (optional) | Full description, EPC rating, floor area (sq ft and m²), council tax band, broadband, nearest stations and schools with distance, all photos in large size, floorplans, virtual and video tours, agency name and branch address, view count |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **locations**: a town or city (`Bristol`, `Manchester`), an area (`East London`, `Central London`) or a postcode district (`SW11`, `BS15`).
2. Choose **For sale** or **To rent**, a **property type** if you like, and set **Max listings** (0 = everything).
3. Add filters — price, bedrooms, added in the last 24 hours or 7 days — and run.

Each location is searched separately; **Max listings** is shared fairly between them.

#### Input examples

Three-bedroom-plus houses for sale in Bristol between £300k and £500k:

```json
{
  "locations": ["Bristol"],
  "searchType": "for-sale",
  "propertyType": "houses",
  "minPrice": 300000,
  "maxPrice": 500000,
  "minBedrooms": 3,
  "maxItems": 200
}
```

Flats to rent in Battersea (SW11) up to two bedrooms, with EPC, floor area and description:

```json
{
  "locations": ["SW11"],
  "searchType": "to-rent",
  "propertyType": "flats-apartments",
  "maxBedrooms": 2,
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

Everything added in Manchester in the last 24 hours (a good daily schedule):

```json
{
  "locations": ["Manchester"],
  "addedWithin": "24-hours",
  "maxItems": 0
}
```

You can also paste OnTheMarket search URLs or property URLs (`https://www.onthemarket.com/details/20437023/`) into **OnTheMarket URLs**.

```
Every row has the same columns; a value the listing doesn't state is `null` (or an empty list). The description, EPC, floor area, council tax, broadband, stations, schools, floorplans and branch address are filled when **Include property details** is on. For rentals, `price` is the monthly rent, `pricePeriod` is `month` and `priceWeekly` the weekly equivalent.
### Use cases
- **Property investors**: find reduced or newly listed homes in your target postcodes every morning.
- **Estate agents**: watch competitors' stock, pricing and "only on OnTheMarket" listings branch by branch.
- **Rental market analysis**: monthly rents by postcode district, property type and size.
- **Lead generation**: build lists of active agent branches with phone numbers and offices.
- **Data and PropTech products**: feed fresh UK listings with coordinates, tenure and EPC into your models.
### FAQ
**Do I need an OnTheMarket account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except a location.
**Which locations can I use?** Towns, cities, areas and postcode districts as OnTheMarket names them: `Bristol`, `Bath`, `East London`, `SW11`. A place OnTheMarket doesn't know is skipped, not charged, and named in the run's status message. For anything unusual, open it on OnTheMarket and paste the search URL.
**How do the price and bedroom filters work?** The scraper applies them itself while it reads the results (OnTheMarket asks crawlers not to use those search parameters, and this scraper respects that). Listings that don't match are dropped and **never charged**. Very narrow filters on a large area can take longer to find matches, so a search stops early, with a note, if almost nothing in it matches — use a smaller area or wider filters.
**How many listings can I get?** All of them. OnTheMarket stops each search at 1,000 results; when a location has more and you ask for more, the run continues through its sub-areas and removes duplicates. Turn off **Split large searches** to keep only the first 1,000 per location.
**How fast is it?** About one page of 30 listings per second, so 1,000 listings take under a minute. **Include property details** opens every property page and adds about a second per listing.
**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If OnTheMarket refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to UK residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.
**What does a run cost?** You pay per listing saved, per location searched, and a small fee per run; property details are a separate, optional charge. See the Pricing tab. Listings that are filtered out are never charged, and neither are locations OnTheMarket doesn't recognise.
**Is it legal to scrape OnTheMarket?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: property listings that anyone can view on OnTheMarket without an account. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Results include estate agent branches' business names, phone numbers and office addresses; property addresses are what the agent publishes (usually street and town with the postcode district — the full postcode is never output), and the scraper removes personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers from description text. You must follow privacy laws such as UK GDPR, GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as OnTheMarket's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages OnTheMarket shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches saved searches, accounts or contact forms, and follows OnTheMarket's robots.txt.
This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OnTheMarket.
