## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Reed.co.uk Jobs Scraper: UK jobs, salaries and full details

Scrape **Reed.co.uk**, one of the UK's biggest job boards, by keyword and location. Every job comes with the **title, company, whether it was posted by an employer or a recruitment agency, salary range with period, location and county, contract type (permanent, contract, temporary), full or part time, remote/hybrid/on-site, posted and closing dates**. With full details on (the default) you also get the **full description**, **region and postcode district**, **Reed's sector**, and Reed's **yearly equivalent** of day and hourly rates. Filter by salary, contract, hours, date posted, workplace, employer or agency, and more. No login, no cookies, no Reed account, no API key.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Job** | Title, job URL, Reed job ID, posted, created, updated and closing dates, featured flag |
| **Company** | Company or agency name, "Direct employer" or "Recruitment agency", logo, company page on Reed |
| **Location** | Town, county, region, postcode district, country |
| **Work** | Remote, Hybrid or On-site; Permanent, Contract or Temporary; Full-time and/or Part-time |
| **Salary** | The salary as Reed shows it, plus **min, max, currency and period** (hour, day, week, month or year), and Reed's **yearly equivalent** for day and hourly rates |
| **Description** | A short snippet always; the **full description** (plain text and HTML) with full details on |
| **Classification** | Reed sector (e.g. "IT & Telecoms / Software Developer") and occupation (e.g. "Information Technology / Analyst / Data Analyst") |
| **Applying** | Easy Apply flag, external apply URL when the job applies off Reed, whether UK work rights are required, graduate and training-course flags |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **keywords**, e.g. `data analyst`, `nurse`, `c# developer`.
2. Optionally enter a **location**: a UK town, city, county or postcode such as `Manchester`, `Kent` or `SW1A`. Add more under **More locations**. Leave it empty to search the whole UK.
3. Set **Max jobs** and any filters, then run.

Each keyword is searched in each location. **Max jobs** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches.

#### Input examples

Permanent data jobs in Manchester paying £40k+, posted in the last week:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["data analyst", "data engineer"],
  "location": "Manchester",
  "maxItems": 200,
  "contractType": ["permanent"],
  "salaryFrom": 40000,
  "postedWithin": "lastweek"
}
```

Remote contract developer roles anywhere in the UK, listing data only (fastest and cheapest):

```json
{
  "keywords": ["python developer", "react developer"],
  "contractType": ["contract"],
  "workplace": "remote",
  "includeDetails": false,
  "maxItems": 500
}
```

Every job in Leeds within 20 miles, direct employers only, no training-course adverts:

```json
{
  "location": "Leeds",
  "radiusMiles": 20,
  "postedBy": ["employer"],
  "hideTrainingCourses": true,
  "maxItems": 0
}
```

You can also paste Reed search URLs (their filters are kept) or job URLs into **Reed URLs**.

### Output example

```json
{
  "site": "reed",
  "jobId": "57335915",
  "title": "Software Engineer",
  "company": "Reed",
  "employerType": "Recruitment agency",
  "location": "Ipswich",
  "county": "Suffolk",
  "region": "East Anglia",
  "postcode": "IP5",
  "country": "United Kingdom",
  "workplaceType": "Hybrid",
  "isRemote": false,
  "contractType": "Contract",
  "employmentTypes": ["Full-time"],
  "salaryText": "£350 - £375 per day, inc benefits",
  "salaryMin": 350,
  "salaryMax": 375,
  "salaryCurrency": "GBP",
  "salaryPeriod": "day",
  "salaryYearlyMin": 91000,
  "salaryYearlyMax": 97500,
  "postedDate": "2026-09-11T10:56:37.343Z",
  "expiresDate": "2026-10-11T23:55:00.000Z",
  "snippet": "Voice Services Software Engineer Contract | 375/day Umbrella | Ipswich (3 Days Onsite) …",
  "description": "Voice Services Software Engineer\n\nContract | £375/day Umbrella | Ipswich (3 Days Onsite) | Until March 2027\n\nREED Technology are working with …",
  "sector": "IT & Telecoms / Software Developer",
  "occupation": "Information Technology / Engineer / Software Engineer",
  "easyApply": true,
  "ukWorkRightsRequired": true,
  "url": "https://www.reed.co.uk/jobs/software-engineer/57335915",
  "searchKeyword": "software engineer",
  "searchLocation": null,
  "position": 17,
  "detailsFetched": true,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-01T22:30:00.000Z"
}
```

Every row has the same columns; a value the job doesn't state is `null`. `description`, `descriptionHtml`, `region`, `postcode`, `country`, `sector` and the yearly salary equivalent come from the job page, so they're filled when **Include full job details** is on.

### Use cases

- **Recruitment and sales leads**: see which employers and agencies are hiring for a role, where, and at what pay.
- **Salary benchmarking**: compare salary ranges by title, town, contract type and employer type, with day and hourly rates converted to yearly figures.
- **Labour-market research**: track UK hiring volume by sector, location or contract type over time.
- **Job alerts**: schedule a daily run with **Date posted: Today**.
- **Job board aggregation**: feed Reed jobs into your own site, newsletter or ATS.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Reed account, an API key, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public search and job pages any visitor sees. Reed's official API needs a key; this scraper doesn't.

**Why do some jobs have no salary amount?** When an employer chooses "Competitive salary" or "Salary negotiable", Reed hides the amount. You get that text in `salaryText`, and `salaryMin`/`salaryMax` stay empty, exactly as on Reed. Tick **Only jobs that show a salary** to skip them.

**What is "Include full job details"?** It opens each job page to add the full description, region, postcode district, sector and Reed's yearly salary equivalent. It's on by default. Turn it off when the search-result data is enough: runs get faster and cheaper.

**How many jobs can I get?** Reed shows 25 jobs per results page, and the scraper pages through all of them. Set **Max jobs** to 0 to get everything your searches find. Several keywords or locations are searched one after another, and a job found twice is saved once.

**Why was a location skipped?** If Reed doesn't recognise a place, it returns nothing for it. The scraper skips that search, doesn't charge for it, and says so in the run's status message. Use a UK town, city, county or postcode.

**Some results are training courses, not jobs.** Reed lists some training-course adverts among jobs. They're flagged with `isTrainingCourse: true`, and **Hide training-course adverts** removes them from the search.

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If Reed refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**What does a run cost?** You pay per job saved, per job page read for full details, per search, and a small fee per run. See the Pricing tab. Jobs that are skipped or filtered out are never charged, and a location Reed doesn't recognise isn't charged as a search.

**Is it legal to scrape Reed.co.uk?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: job postings that anyone can see on Reed without an account, such as the job title, employer, location, salary and description. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Job postings describe roles, not people, but an advert written by a recruitment agency can mention a consultant by name; the scraper removes personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers from descriptions. You must follow privacy laws such as UK GDPR, GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Reed's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Reed shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches candidate profiles, CVs or applications, and follows Reed's robots.txt.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Job titles or skills to search on Reed, e.g. "data analyst", "nurse", "c# developer". Each keyword is searched separately (and in each location).

## `location` (type: `string`):

A UK town, city, county or postcode, e.g. "Manchester", "Kent", "SW1A". Leave empty to search the whole UK. A place Reed doesn't recognise is skipped (and not charged).

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Run the same keywords in several places, e.g. "Leeds", "Bristol".

## `radiusMiles` (type: `integer`):

How far from the location to search. Reed offers 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50 miles; other values are rounded to the nearest. Default: Reed's own (10 miles).

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of jobs for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches (a search that finds fewer leaves its share to the others). 0 = everything.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Also open every job page for the full description (text and HTML), region, postcode district, country, sector, Reed's yearly salary equivalent and skills. Without it you get the search-result data, including a short snippet of the description.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional: Reed search URLs (the filters in the URL are kept) or job URLs (they end in the job number, e.g. /jobs/software-engineer/57335915).

## `postedWithin` (type: `string`):

Only jobs posted in this period.

## `contractType` (type: `array`):

Permanent, contract and/or temporary. Empty = all.

## `hours` (type: `array`):

Full time and/or part time. Empty = all.

## `workplace` (type: `string`):

Only remote, hybrid or on-site jobs.

## `salaryFrom` (type: `integer`):

## `salaryTo` (type: `integer`):

Only jobs paying at most this much a year.

## `postedBy` (type: `array`):

Recruitment agencies and/or direct employers. Empty = both.

## `salaryShownOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Hide jobs whose salary is "Competitive" or "Negotiable".

## `hideTrainingCourses` (type: `boolean`):

Reed lists some training courses alongside jobs; this hides them.

## `graduateJobs` (type: `boolean`):

Only jobs Reed marks as suitable for graduates.

## `easyApplyOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only jobs you can apply to with Reed Easy Apply.

## `visaSponsorship` (type: `boolean`):

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many job pages to read at once when "Include full job details" is on.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If Reed refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
