## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Rigzone Jobs Scraper: oil, gas and energy jobs

Scrape **Rigzone**, the job board for the oil, gas and energy industry, by keyword, location, category, employment type, experience and company. Every job comes with the **title, employer, location, years of experience, Rigzone skills, posted date and job URL**. With full job details on (the default) you also get the **full description, employment type, education, postal code, coordinates and the employer's own requisition ID**. No login, no cookies, no Rigzone account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Job** | Title, job URL, posted date (with time when details are on), closing date when the posting has a real one |
| **Employer** | Company name, logo, Featured Employer flag |
| **Location** | Location as shown, city, state, postal code, country, latitude and longitude |
| **Requirements** | Years of experience, education, Rigzone skills / job functions (e.g. "Drilling Engineering", "MWD / LWD") |
| **Employment** | Full time, contractor, part time, rotational |
| **Description** | The full description as text and HTML, and the listing extract |
| **Reference** | The employer's own job / requisition ID (e.g. Baker Hughes `R168912`) |

### How to use it

1. Enter one or more **keywords**, e.g. `drilling engineer`, `offshore`, `HSE`, `subsea`.
2. Optionally enter a **location** such as `Houston`, `Aberdeen`, `Norway` or `Abu Dhabi` (add more under **More locations**), and a **radius**. Leave it empty to search worldwide.
3. Optionally narrow by **category**, **employment type**, **minimum years of experience**, **companies** or **skill**, set **Max jobs**, and run.

Each keyword is searched in each location (and for each company). **Max jobs** is the total for the run, shared fairly between your searches.

#### Input examples

Drilling jobs around Houston:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["drilling"],
  "location": "Houston",
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

Every open job at two employers, listing data only (cheaper and faster):

```json
{
  "companies": ["Baker Hughes", "Halliburton"],
  "includeDetails": false,
  "maxItems": 1000
}
```

Rotational contractor jobs in Health, Safety & Environment with 5+ years of experience:

```json
{
  "category": "11",
  "employmentType": "6",
  "minExperience": 5,
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

You can also paste Rigzone search URLs (`https://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/search/?sk=…`, filters in the URL are kept) or job URLs (`https://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/postings/1292940_…`) into **Rigzone URLs**.

### Output example

```json
{
  "site": "rigzone",
  "jobId": "1294187",
  "title": "Field Specialist I - IO",
  "company": "Baker Hughes",
  "companyLogoUrl": "https://images.rigzone.com/images/jobs/companylogos/3442_bg.png",
  "isFeaturedEmployer": true,
  "location": "Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom",
  "city": "Aberdeen",
  "state": "Scotland",
  "postalCode": "AB32 6FJ",
  "country": "United Kingdom",
  "latitude": 57.1498908996582,
  "longitude": -2.093752861022949,
  "employmentType": "Full Time",
  "employmentTypes": ["Full-time"],
  "experienceYears": null,
  "education": "High School/Secondary",
  "skills": ["Field Service Tech"],
  "industry": "Oil and Gas",
  "postedDate": "2026-10-01T12:05:00.000Z",
  "expiresDate": null,
  "summary": "Field SpecialistDo you enjoy being part of a team that provides high-quality services for …",
  "description": "Field Specialist\n\nDo you enjoy being part of a team that provides high-quality services for …",
  "employerJobReference": "R169412",
  "url": "https://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/postings/1294187_Field_Specialist_I_-_IO",
  "searchKeyword": "drilling",
  "searchLocation": "Aberdeen",
  "position": 3,
  "detailsFetched": true,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-01T22:34:22.844Z"
}
```

Every row has the same columns; a value the job doesn't state is `null`. `description`, `employmentType`, `education`, `postalCode`, coordinates and `employerJobReference` are filled when **Include full job details** is on. Salaries are rare on Rigzone; when a posting has one you get `salaryMin`, `salaryMax`, `salaryCurrency` and `salaryPeriod`.

### Use cases

- **Energy recruiting**: see which operators, service companies and agencies are hiring for which roles, and where.
- **Market intelligence**: track hiring volume by category (drilling, production, HSE, maritime) and region over time.
- **Job alerts**: schedule a daily run for your keywords and locations.
- **Lead lists for staffing firms**: find the employers advertising in your niche, with their own requisition IDs.
- **Job aggregation**: feed oil and gas jobs into your own site, newsletter or ATS.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Rigzone account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public job search and job pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and never applies to jobs (Rigzone's Apply button needs an account, so no apply link is collected).

**How many jobs can I get?** Everything Rigzone lists for your search. Set **Max jobs** to 0 to get all of it (Rigzone has around 2,500 open jobs in total).

**How fast is it?** About 20 jobs every 3 seconds with listing data only, and about 1 job a second with full details.

**Why are there no jobs for my location?** Rigzone returns nothing for a place it doesn't know. Try a city, state or country name, e.g. `Aberdeen` or `Norway`, and a bigger radius. Only the search is charged, not jobs.

**Which companies can I filter by?** Any company name as Rigzone shows it, e.g. `Baker Hughes`, `Halliburton`, `SBM Offshore`, `NES Fircroft`. Each company is searched separately.

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If Rigzone refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**What does a run cost?** You pay per job saved, a small amount per job with full details, per search, and a small fee per run. See the Pricing tab.

**Is it legal to scrape Rigzone?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: job postings that anyone can see on Rigzone without an account, such as the job title, employer, location, requirements and description. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Job postings describe roles, not people; the scraper never collects recruiter contact names and masks personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers in descriptions. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Rigzone's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages Rigzone shows to any visitor without logging in. It never logs in, never applies to jobs, never opens CVs or member profiles, and follows Rigzone's robots.txt.

This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Rigzone.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Job titles, skills or companies to search on Rigzone, e.g. "drilling engineer", "offshore", "HSE". Each keyword is searched separately (and in each location). Leave empty to list all jobs (with a location or filter).

## `location` (type: `string`):

A city, state or country, e.g. "Houston", "Aberdeen", "Norway", "Abu Dhabi". Rigzone searches within the radius below. Leave empty to search worldwide. A place Rigzone doesn't know returns no jobs (and costs nothing per job).

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Run the same keywords in several places, e.g. "Calgary", "Perth".

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of jobs for the whole run, shared fairly between your searches (a search that finds fewer leaves its share to the others). 0 = everything.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open every job page for the full description (text and HTML), employment type, education, postal code, coordinates, the employer's own job ID and the exact posting time. Off = listing data only (title, company, location, years of experience, skills, posted date, a ~250-character extract), cheaper and faster.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional: Rigzone job search URLs (https://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/search/?sk=…; filters in the URL are kept) or job URLs (https://www.rigzone.com/oil/jobs/postings/1292940\_…).

## `category` (type: `string`):

Only jobs in this Rigzone category.

## `employmentType` (type: `string`):

Only jobs of this employment type.

## `minExperience` (type: `integer`):

Rigzone's experience filter (1–20 years). 0 = any.

## `companies` (type: `array`):

Only jobs from these companies, written as Rigzone shows them, e.g. "Baker Hughes", "Halliburton", "SBM Offshore". Each company is searched separately.

## `skill` (type: `string`):

Only jobs with this Rigzone skill, written as Rigzone shows it, e.g. "Field Service Tech", "Mechanical Engineering", "Drilling Engineering".

## `radius` (type: `string`):

How far from the location to search.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If Rigzone refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
