## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Sitejabber Scraper: business ratings and review counts (SmartCustomer)

Scrape **Sitejabber**, now called **SmartCustomer**, for business ratings. List every business in a category, or look up businesses by website. Each business comes with its **star rating, review count, service, value, shipping, returns and quality ratings, categories, industry, founded year and page views**. You can also get the **full profile**: the same business's ratings on **Trustpilot, Yelp, BBB, reviews.io and ResellerRatings**, whether the business **claimed its page**, its **verified and positive review counts**, its **rank in its category** and the **topics reviewers mention most**. No login, no cookies, no account.

This scraper collects **business-level data only**. It counts reviews but never collects them: you get no review texts and no reviewer names.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Business** | Name, website domain, website URL, SmartCustomer page URL, logo, website title, description |
| **Ratings** | Average star rating (1–5), number of reviews |
| **Sub-ratings** | Customer service, value, shipping, returns and quality: average and number of ratings for each |
| **Categories** | Every category the business is listed in (names and slugs), its industry, the main category path |
| **Company** | Founded year, page views, closed / removed / prohibited flags, whether it invites customers to review |
| **Category lists** | The business's position in the category, in the site's own order |
| **Full profile** (optional for categories, always for websites) | Ratings on Trustpilot, Yelp, BBB, reviews.io and ResellerRatings · claimed or not · paid plan · verified and positive review counts · SmartCustomer score · rank in its category · popular review topics · how it collects reviews · social media pages · consumer warnings |

### How to use it

**List a category.** Under **Categories**, enter a category name such as `Electronics` or `Men's Clothing`, a slug from the category URL such as `electronics`, or a full URL such as `https://www.sitejabber.com/categories/shoes`. You get the category's businesses in the order the site shows them.

**Look up businesses.** Under **Business websites**, enter websites such as `zappos.com` or `https://www.bestbuy.com`, or Sitejabber / SmartCustomer review page URLs. Each business you look up comes with its full profile.

**Max businesses** is the total for the run. Websites come first, and categories share the rest fairly.

#### Input examples

Top 100 electronics stores, with their full profiles:

```json
{
  "categories": ["electronics"],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "includeDetails": true
}
```

Compare a list of competitors:

```json
{
  "businesses": ["zappos.com", "bestbuy.com", "etsy.com", "https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/wayfair.com"]
}
```

Several categories at once, 500 businesses in total:

```json
{
  "categories": ["Shoes", "Women's Clothing", "https://www.sitejabber.com/categories/jewelry"],
  "maxItems": 500
}
```

### Output example

A website lookup, which always includes the full profile:

```json
{
  "businessId": 2687,
  "name": "Best Buy",
  "domain": "bestbuy.com",
  "website": "http://bestbuy.com",
  "profileUrl": "https://www.smartcustomer.com/reviews/bestbuy.com",
  "returnsRating": 1.86,
  "qualityRating": 2.3,
  "viewsCount": 173807,
  "categories": ["Electronics", "Mobile Phones", "Computer"],
  "categorySlugs": ["electronics", "mobile-phones", "computer"],
  "categoryPath": "Computers & Technology > Consumer Electronics > Electronics",
  "positiveReviewsCount": 869,
  "verifiedReviewsCount": 72,
  "otherPlatformRatings": [
    { "platform": "resellerratings.com", "rating": 4.5, "reviewCount": 2169 },
    { "platform": "yelp.com", "rating": 2.4, "reviewCount": 103362 },
    { "platform": "trustpilot.com", "rating": 1.4, "reviewCount": 7207 },
    { "platform": "reviews.io", "rating": 1.38, "reviewCount": 1519 },
    { "platform": "bbb.org", "rating": 1.04, "reviewCount": 180 }
  ],
  "hasPaidPlan": false,
  "sjScore": 68.54,
  "popularReviewTerms": ["customer service", "geek squad", "credit card"],
  "topCategory": "Electronics",
  "topCategoryRank": 20,
  "detailsFetched": true,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-02T00:25:31.035Z"
}
```

A row from a category list (without the full profile):

```json
{
  "name": "Crutchfield",
  "domain": "crutchfield.com",
  "rating": 3.85,
  "reviewCount": 1613,
  "serviceRating": 4.48,
  "qualityRating": 4.58,
  "categories": ["Electronics", "Car Stereos", "Home Theater"],
  "subindustry": "Technology And Computing",
  "foundedYear": 1974,
  "sourceCategory": "electronics",
  "sourceCategoryName": "Electronics",
  "position": 13,
  "detailsFetched": false
}
```

Every row has the same columns. A value the site doesn't show is `null`, and the full-profile columns are empty unless the full profile was loaded.

### Use cases

- **Competitor benchmarking**: compare ratings, review volume and service, shipping and returns scores across your competitors.
- **Reputation monitoring**: schedule a weekly run of your own and your rivals' websites and track rating changes. Trustpilot, Yelp and BBB ratings come in the same row.
- **Lead generation for review and CX tools**: find businesses in a category that haven't claimed their page or don't collect reviews.
- **Market research**: map a category's leaders, how old they are, and how customers rate them.
- **Vendor and merchant due diligence**: check an online store's ratings across several review sites in one call.

### Pricing

You pay per result, with no monthly fee:

- **Business**: one business saved to your dataset.
- **Full profile**: the business's own page was read. This is always charged for website lookups, and for category businesses only when **Include the full profile** is on.
- **Category**: one category read, with or without businesses.
- **Actor start**: a small fee per run.

See the **Pricing** tab for the amounts. Websites or categories the site doesn't list are never charged. A business that appears in two of your categories is saved and charged once.

### FAQ

**Is Sitejabber the same as SmartCustomer?** Yes. Sitejabber renamed itself SmartCustomer, and sitejabber.com now redirects to smartcustomer.com. The scraper reads smartcustomer.com directly and accepts links from both sites.

**Do I need an account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public pages any visitor sees. It never logs in and needs nothing from you except categories or websites.

**Does it scrape the reviews?** No. It collects business-level data only: ratings, review counts, sub-ratings, categories and the business profile. It never saves review texts, reviewer names, profiles or photos. Review counts and average ratings are included.

**How fast is it?** SmartCustomer asks crawlers to wait 1 second between requests, and the scraper does. A category list loads 100 businesses per request, so 1,000 businesses take about a minute. The full profile opens each business's own page, which adds about 1 second per business.

**How many businesses can I get?** Every business in a category. Electronics alone lists over 1,000. Set **Max businesses** to 0 to get everything your categories contain.

**Why is a website not found?** SmartCustomer lists a business under its website's domain, for example `zappos.com`. If a website has no SmartCustomer page, it is skipped, it isn't charged, and the run's status message lists it. Some businesses are listed under a subdomain such as `shop.lululemon.com`. For those, paste the review page URL from the site. If almost every input of a run is not found, the run stops early and tells you to check the inputs.

**Which category names work?** Any category on smartcustomer.com/categories. Paste its URL if a name doesn't match. The run's status message tells you which categories were not found.

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If the site refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**Is it legal to scrape Sitejabber / SmartCustomer?** This Actor only collects publicly available data about businesses that anyone can see on SmartCustomer without an account, such as ratings, review counts, categories and company details. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. The Actor collects no personal data: no reviews, no reviewer names and no contact persons. It masks personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers in business descriptions. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as SmartCustomer's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages SmartCustomer shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches user profiles or accounts, and follows the site's robots.txt, including its crawl delay.

# Actor input Schema

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Sitejabber / SmartCustomer categories to list, as a name ("Electronics", "Men's Clothing"), the slug from the category URL ("electronics", "mens-clothing") or the full URL (https://www.sitejabber.com/categories/shoes). You get the category's businesses in the site's own order, with their position.

## `businesses` (type: `array`):

Look up specific businesses by their website ("zappos.com", "https://www.bestbuy.com") or their Sitejabber / SmartCustomer review page URL. Each one comes with the full profile (Trustpilot / Yelp / BBB ratings, claimed status, verified review count, rank in its category). Websites that are not listed are skipped and not charged.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of businesses for the whole run. Websites come first; categories share the rest fairly. 0 = everything.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Also open each category business's own page for the full profile: Trustpilot, Yelp, BBB and other platforms' ratings, claimed status, verified and positive review counts, SmartCustomer score, rank in its category, popular review topics and the category path. Adds about 1 second per business and a small per-business charge. Business websites always get the full profile.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional: paste category URLs (…/categories/electronics) or business review page URLs (…/reviews/zappos.com) from sitejabber.com or smartcustomer.com.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many pages to load at the same time (1–4). Requests always start at least 1 second apart, as the site's robots.txt asks.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If the site refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "categories": [
    "electronics"
  ],
  "maxItems": 20,
  "includeDetails": false,
  "maxConcurrency": 2,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

All scraped businesses.

## `run` (type: `string`):

Status and statistics for this run.

## `report` (type: `string`):

RUN_REPORT: how the run ended, counts, requests and proxy use.
