## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Staples Canada Scraper: Prices, Clearance, UPC & Store Stock

Scrape **staples.ca** product data in English or French. Search by keyword, category, SKU or URL, or pull the **whole catalogue** of about 125,000 products. Every product includes:

- the price, regular price and discount, with sale and clearance flags
- UPC and model number
- ratings and review counts
- the full category path
- **in-store stock counts across 300+ Staples stores in Canada**

You can also use it to find **clearance items that are in stock near a postal code**. No login and no cookies are needed. It's fast (up to 1,000 products per request) and costs little to run.

### What you can do with it

- **Find clearance near you.** Enter a postal code and turn on *Clearance only*. You get every clearance item on the shelf at the Staples stores near you, with the quantity at each store and its distance.
- **Monitor prices.** Track prices, markdowns and "new lower price" items for a category, a brand or a list of SKUs.
- **Research retail arbitrage and resale.** Get UPCs plus prices and store stock to match products against Amazon or other marketplaces.
- **Pull the full catalogue.** Get every product on staples.ca, well past the 25,000 limit that generic store scrapers hit.
- **Gather competitive and category intelligence.** See assortment, brands, ratings and review counts by category.
- **Build a store list.** Get every Staples store with its number, address and coordinates.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Search terms** | Keywords, e.g. `printer ink`, `office chair`. Each term is scraped separately. |
| **Staples URLs** | Product, category (`/collections/...`) or search URLs from staples.ca, in English or French. |
| **Categories** | The part after `/collections/` in a category URL, e.g. `staplers-6769`, `office-supplies-189`, `staples-clearance-centre-7922`. |
| **SKUs** | Staples item numbers (the number at the start of a product URL) or product URLs. |
| **Scrape the full catalogue** | Every product in the chosen language. Works with all the filters. |
| **List stores** | Also saves the Staples store list. With a location, it lists only the stores within the radius. |
| **Near location** | A postal code, city or `lat,lng`. The output keeps only products in stock at a store within the radius and adds the stock at each of those stores. |
| **Radius (km)** | Search radius around the location. The default is 25 km. |
| **Store numbers** | Keeps only products in stock at these stores. |
| **Include stock at every store** | Adds the full list of stores that carry the item, with quantities. |
| **Language** | English or French listings. |
| **Sort by** | Relevance, price (low to high or high to low), best sellers, new arrivals, top rated, or name. |
| **Min / max price, On sale only, Clearance only, Brands** | Filters. They also work on the full catalogue. |
| **Include description, bullet points and specifications** | Adds the long product details. |
| **Reviews per product** | Adds the newest reviews for each product: rating, title, text, date, whether the reviewer recommends it, helpful votes and verified-purchase status. |
| **Max items** | Total result limit. The prefilled example uses 50. |

#### Example: clearance in stock near downtown Toronto

```json
{
  "location": "M5V 3L9",
  "radiusKm": 10,
  "clearanceOnly": true,
  "maxItems": 500
}
```

#### Example: two searches and a category, with specs and reviews

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["printer ink", "stapler"],
  "startUrls": ["https://www.staples.ca/collections/office-chairs-65"],
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxReviewsPerProduct": 5,
  "maxItemsPerSource": 200
}
```

### Output

The actor writes one row per product. The row below is trimmed to two nearby stores:

```
When the matching options are turned on, rows also include `description`, `bulletPoints`, `specifications`, `reviews` and `storeInventory`. Store rows (`dataType: "store"`) have the store number, name, address, city, province, postal code, coordinates and the distance from your location. If a SKU or URL can't be found, the actor adds a `dataType: "error"` row that explains why. Error rows are free.
The dataset has three table views: **Products**, **Stock near you** and **Stores**.
### FAQ
**How fresh is the store stock?** The store quantities are the same snapshot Staples uses for its own "available in store" information. They are refreshed regularly but are not live to the minute, so call the store before driving over for a single unit.
**Why is `rating` empty for some products?** Those products have no reviews yet. Their `reviewCount` is 0.
**Can I get more than 10,000 results for one search?** Yes. Large searches and categories are split into smaller slices automatically, so you can pull a whole department or the full catalogue.
**French?** Set *Language* to Français, or use French category URLs or handles (they start with `fr-`). Product URLs in French listings point to the French pages.
**Does it need a proxy?** The default Apify Proxy setting works. Failed requests are retried on fresh IPs automatically, with a residential fallback if needed.
**How fast is it?** A 50-product search takes a few seconds. A 33,000-product department takes about a minute.
**Is it legal to scrape Staples Canada?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: product listings, prices, in-store stock and store locations that anyone can see on staples.ca without an account, plus product descriptions and customer reviews if you turn those options on. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Reviewer names and locations are never included, but the text of a customer review can still count as personal data. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as Staples' terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)
**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from what Staples shows to any visitor of staples.ca without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches private or restricted accounts, and never reaches password-protected areas.
# Actor input Schema
## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):
Keywords to search on staples.ca, e.g. "printer ink", "office chair", "laptop". Each term is scraped separately.
## `startUrls` (type: `array`):
staples.ca product, category (collection) or search pages, in English or French, e.g. https://www.staples.ca/collections/staplers-6769
## `categories` (type: `array`):
Category handles — the part after /collections/ in a staples.ca URL, e.g. staplers-6769, office-supplies-189 or staples-clearance-centre-7922. French handles (fr-…) return French listings.
## `skus` (type: `array`):
Staples item numbers (the number at the start of a product URL, e.g. 978269), or full product URLs.
## `scrapeFullCatalog` (type: `boolean`):
Every product on staples.ca in the chosen language (about 125,000). Combine with the filters below, e.g. clearance only. Raise Max items (default 1,000) to about 130000 to get everything.
## `listStores` (type: `boolean`):
Also save the Staples store list (number, name, address, coordinates). With a location, only the stores within the radius are listed.
## `location` (type: `string`):
Postal code, city or "lat,lng", e.g. M5V 3L9 or Calgary. Keeps only products in stock at a Staples store within the radius below, and adds the stock at each nearby store. With no search terms, browses the whole catalogue (great with Clearance only).
## `radiusKm` (type: `integer`):
How far from the location to look for stores.
## `storeNumbers` (type: `array`):
Specific Staples store numbers (from "List stores"). Keeps only products in stock at these stores.
## `includeStoreInventory` (type: `boolean`):
Adds the full list of stores that have the item, with quantities (can be ~300 stores per product). Store count and total quantity are always included.
## `language` (type: `string`):
English or French product listings.
## `sortBy` (type: `string`):
Order of the results (same as the sort menu on staples.ca).
## `minPrice` (type: `integer`):
Only products at or above this price.
## `maxPrice` (type: `integer`):
Only products at or below this price.
## `onSaleOnly` (type: `boolean`):
Only products priced below their regular price.
## `clearanceOnly` (type: `boolean`):
Only clearance items.
## `brands` (type: `array`):
Only these brands, exactly as shown on staples.ca, e.g. HP, Canon, Staples.
## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):
Adds the product description, feature bullets and the specification table.
## `maxReviewsPerProduct` (type: `integer`):
Newest customer reviews to include per product (rating, title, text, date, recommended, helpful votes, verified purchase). 0 = none.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of results in total (products + stores). Default 1,000. For the full catalogue set it to about 130000.
## `maxItemsPerSource` (type: `integer`):
Cap for each search term, URL or category, so one large source doesn't use up the whole budget.
## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):
Parallel requests (1–10).
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Apify Proxy (automatic) works well and is the default. Failed requests are retried on fresh IPs automatically, with a residential fallback.
