## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## TableCheck Restaurants Scraper: Japan & Asia dining data

Scrape **TableCheck**, the restaurant booking platform used by thousands of restaurants and hotel dining rooms in **Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia** and beyond. For every restaurant you get the **name (English and local), address, map coordinates, phone number, cuisines, lunch and dinner budgets, nearest stations, photos, Google place ID** and its **bookable set courses with prices**. Paste restaurant or listing URLs, or search the **whole TableCheck directory** by country, city, cuisine or keyword. No login, no cookies, no TableCheck account.

### What you get

| | |
|---|---|
| **Restaurant** | Name in your language, local name (e.g. Japanese), katakana name, headline, description, TableCheck page and booking links |
| **Food & price** | Cuisines (keys and English names), tags (private room, smoke-free, kids, groups…), seating options, lunch and dinner budget per person (min / average / max), price range, currency |
| **Location** | Full address in English and in local script, street, city / ward, prefecture / region, postal code, country, latitude / longitude, time zone, nearest stations with walking distance |
| **Contact** | The restaurant's own phone number (international and national format), Google Maps place ID |
| **Photos** | Main photo and up to 20 photo URLs |
| **Courses** | Every bookable course or plan: name, description, price, previous price, tax included, service fee, lunch / dinner, days, hours, party size, prepayment, photo |

### How to use it

**A. Restaurants you already know.** Paste TableCheck restaurant URLs (`https://www.tablecheck.com/en/<restaurant>` or the `/shops/<restaurant>/reserve` booking page). Slugs alone, like `thegrill-toranomon`, work too.

**B. A TableCheck list.** Paste a listing page such as `https://www.tablecheck.com/en/landing/buffet-tokyo` (TableCheck's "best of" pages per city and cuisine), a promo page or `https://www.tablecheck.com/en/japan`. Every restaurant on it is scraped.

**C. The whole directory.** Leave the URLs empty and set **Countries**, **Cities / areas**, **Cuisines** and/or **Keywords**. The scraper walks TableCheck's full directory (about 11,000 restaurants) and keeps the ones that match. **Max restaurants to check** caps how far it looks.

#### Input examples

Buffets in Tokyo (a TableCheck list page):

```json
{
  "startUrls": [{ "url": "https://www.tablecheck.com/en/landing/buffet-tokyo" }],
  "maxItems": 20
}
```

Sushi restaurants in Ginza, from the whole directory:

```json
{
  "countries": ["JP"],
  "cities": ["Ginza"],
  "cuisines": ["sushi"],
  "maxItems": 50,
  "maxRestaurantsToCheck": 3000
}
```

Hotel restaurants in Singapore, checking the whole directory (`maxRestaurantsToCheck: 0`, about 1.5 hours — raise Timeout in the run options):

```json
{
  "countries": ["SG"],
  "keywords": ["hotel"],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "maxRestaurantsToCheck": 0
}
```

Specific restaurants, texts in Japanese:

```json
{
  "startUrls": ["thegrill-toranomon", "https://www.tablecheck.com/en/ramenya-shima"],
  "language": "ja"
}
```

Export the whole directory (about 11,000 restaurants, about 1.5 hours — raise Timeout): `{ "maxItems": 0 }`.

Every row has the same columns; a value TableCheck doesn't show is `null` (for example `phone` when a restaurant hides its number). Texts are in the language you pick when the restaurant provides it, otherwise English, otherwise the restaurant's own language.

### Use cases

- **Restaurant lead lists**: hotel dining rooms and independent restaurants in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore or Bangkok, with phone, address and coordinates, for B2B sales (food suppliers, POS, wine, staffing).
- **Market research**: prices of set courses and budgets by cuisine and area; how many omakase or teppanyaki places a ward has.
- **Travel and food apps**: feed TableCheck restaurants with photos, stations and booking links into your guide or map.
- **Competitive monitoring**: schedule a run to see new restaurants and course price changes.

### FAQ

**Do I need a TableCheck account, cookies or a login?** No. The scraper reads the same public restaurant pages any visitor sees. It never logs in, never books, and needs nothing from you.

**How does the directory search work?** TableCheck's own search runs in the browser on an API that its robots.txt asks crawlers not to use, so this scraper doesn't use it. Instead it walks TableCheck's public directory (its sitemap) and opens each restaurant page, keeping the ones that match your filters. That is thorough, but a narrow filter (say, one cuisine in one ward) may read many pages to find a few matches; **Max restaurants to check** (default 1,000) caps that. Pasting a TableCheck list page is the fastest way to get one city and cuisine.

**How fast is it?** About 2 restaurant pages per second. 100 restaurants take about a minute; the whole directory (about 11,000 restaurants) takes about 1.5 hours, so raise **Timeout** in the run options to 2 hours or more for that. If the timeout comes first, the run stops cleanly and keeps every restaurant it found.

**Which countries are covered?** Whatever TableCheck lists. Most restaurants are in Japan; there are also restaurants in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, the US, the UK and more. Use two-letter country codes in **Countries**.

**What does a run cost?** You pay a small fee per run and per restaurant saved. When you use filters, each restaurant page that was checked and did **not** match is a much smaller charge. See the Pricing tab. Restaurants that no longer exist on TableCheck are never charged.

**Which proxy should I use?** Keep the default (Apify Proxy, datacenter). It comes with every Apify plan, including the free one. If TableCheck refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them, and carries on without them when it doesn't.

**Is it legal to scrape TableCheck?** This Actor only collects publicly available data: restaurant listings that anyone can see on TableCheck without an account, such as the name, address, phone number, cuisines, budgets, photos and courses. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. The data describes businesses, not people: the scraper doesn't collect reviews, reviewer names or any customer or booking data. You must follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, as well as TableCheck's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Does it access any private data?** No. Everything comes from pages TableCheck shows to any visitor without logging in. It never uses a login, never touches reservations, vouchers or user accounts, and follows TableCheck's robots.txt.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Restaurant pages (https://www.tablecheck.com/en/<restaurant>, or its /shops/<restaurant>/reserve booking page) and/or TableCheck listing pages such as https://www.tablecheck.com/en/landing/buffet-tokyo, /en/promo/… or /en/japan. Restaurant slugs alone (e.g. "thegrill-toranomon") work too. Leave empty to search the whole TableCheck directory with the filters below.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of restaurants saved in this run. 0 = everything (the whole directory is about 11,000 restaurants).

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Only restaurants in these countries, as two-letter codes: JP (Japan), SG (Singapore), HK (Hong Kong), TH (Thailand), TW (Taiwan), KR (South Korea), MY (Malaysia), ID, PH, VN, AU, US, GB… Empty = all.

## `maxRestaurantsToCheck` (type: `integer`):

When the filters run on the whole directory, stop after reading this many restaurant pages (each non-matching page is a small charge, see Pricing). 0 = no limit (the whole directory, about 11,000 pages). Not used for pasted URLs.

## `crawlDirectory` (type: `boolean`):

With URLs above, also walk the whole TableCheck directory (it is walked automatically when no URLs are given).

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language of names, descriptions and course texts (when the restaurant provides it; otherwise English, then its own language).

## `includeCourses` (type: `boolean`):

Add the restaurant's bookable set courses and plans (name, description, price, meals, days, hours, party size). No extra requests.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Restaurant pages read at the same time (request starts stay at most 4 per second).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify Proxy (datacenter) is the default and comes with every Apify plan. If TableCheck refuses datacenter IPs for a while, the run switches to residential proxies when your account has them.
