## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## YouTube Top Creators & Most Viewed Videos Finder — Trending, Rising, Charts

**Find what is famous on YouTube.** Type a niche or a topic and get a ranked list of the most famous creators, the most viewed videos, or the videos rising fastest right now, each with a one-line reason for its rank. Or pull YouTube Music's charts (top music videos, trending, top artists) for 68 countries and worldwide.

> 🚫 No login · 🔑 No API key · 🏆 Ranked results with `whyRanked` · 🌍 Any country · 💵 Pay only for the rows you get

### 🎯 Four ways to find who and what is famous

| Mode | You give | You get |
|---|---|---|
| **Top creators** | a niche keyword ("home workout") | the biggest channels for that niche, ranked by **fameScore**, subscribers or lifetime views, with subscribers, lifetime views, video count, joined date, country, uploads in the last 30 days, median views of recent uploads, avatar and social links |
| **Most viewed** | a topic ("minecraft") + optional upload window (today / week / month / year / all time) and length | the videos with the most views, with likes, comments, duration, upload date, views per day, channel + subscribers and an **outlier score** (views ÷ the channel's usual views) |
| **Rising** | a topic + "uploaded in the last N days" | new uploads gaining views fastest, ranked by **risingScore** (views per day + outlier score), with **breakouts** from small channels flagged |
| **Charts** | chart(s) + countries | YouTube Music's public charts: top 100 music videos (weekly or daily), trending music videos (live) and top artists (weekly), with YouTube Music's positions and trend — 68 countries or worldwide |

Every row has `rank`, `mode`, `query` (the keyword or chart), `country`, `scrapedAt` and a short `whyRanked` line, so you can paste the list straight into a report.

### 🚀 Examples

#### Top creators for a niche

```json
{ "mode": "topCreators", "queries": ["home workout"], "maxResults": 20, "country": "US" }
```

Only mid-size creators from Canada or the UK who uploaded this month:

```json
{ "mode": "topCreators", "queries": ["home workout", "pilates"], "minSubscribers": 10000, "maxSubscribers": 1000000, "creatorCountries": ["CA", "GB"], "activeWithinDays": 30 }
```

A real row (2026-10-01):

```json
{
  "rank": 1, "mode": "topCreators", "query": "home workout", "country": "US",
  "channelName": "growingannanas", "handle": "@growingannanas", "channelUrl": "https://www.youtube.com/@growingannanas",
  "subscribers": 8210000, "totalViews": 4651362353, "videoCount": 1350, "joinedDate": "2017-01-20",
  "channelCountry": "Germany", "uploadsLast30Days": 5, "medianViews": 217500, "lastUploadDaysAgo": 1,
  "fameScore": 72.8,
  "whyRanked": "#1 of 3 for \"home workout\" by fameScore: 8.2M subscribers, 4.7B lifetime views, median 217.5K views on recent uploads, 5 uploads in 30 days (fameScore 72.8).",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-01T23:37:22.941Z"
}
```

#### Most viewed videos for a topic

```json
{ "mode": "mostViewed", "queries": ["minecraft"], "maxResults": 25, "timeWindow": "all" }
```

This year only, long videos:

```json
{ "mode": "mostViewed", "queries": ["sourdough bread"], "timeWindow": "year", "videoLength": "long" }
```

A real row: `"#1 most viewed for \"minecraft\" (all time): 95.7M views — 3680× the channel's usual views, 177K views/day."`

#### Rising videos and breakouts

```json
{ "mode": "rising", "queries": ["ai agents"], "publishedWithinDays": 7, "maxResults": 20 }
```

A real row: `"#2 rising for \"ai agents\" (uploaded in the last 7 days): 36.8K views/day, 6.4× the channel's median on a 572K-subscriber channel."` Set **Small channel = at most N subscribers** to decide what counts as a breakout (default 100,000).

#### Music charts (YouTube Music)

```json
{ "mode": "charts", "chartTypes": ["topMusicVideos", "trending", "topArtists"], "chartCountries": ["US", "IN", "GB"], "chartPeriod": "weekly" }
```

Real rows (2026-10-09): `"#1 on YouTube Music's Top 100 Music Videos United States chart (US, weekly): \"Dai Dai\" by Shakira, Burna Boy, holding steady."` and `"#1 on YouTube Music's Top artists chart (US, weekly): Drake, 33.2M subscribers, holding steady."`

Charts come from YouTube Music's public charts (music.youtube.com/charts), read the way any visitor sees them:

| Chart (`chartTypes`) | On YouTube Music | Rows | Countries |
|---|---|---|---|
| `topMusicVideos` | Top 100 Music Videos (weekly) or Daily Top Music Videos (`chartPeriod: "daily"`) | up to 100 | all 68 + Global |
| `trending` | Trending 20 (today's hottest songs on YouTube) | 20 | all 68 (not Global) |
| `topArtists` | Top artists (weekly) | up to 40 | all 68 + Global |
| `topSongs`, `topShortsSongs` | not on YouTube Music's charts | none | skipped, never charged |

Each chart row has YouTube Music's `rank` and `trend` (the up, down or same arrow YouTube Music shows), `chartName`, `chartCountry` and `chartUrl`. Video rows add `title`, `artist`/`artists`, `videoId` and `url`, `duration`, the lead artist's channel and `videoType`. Artist rows add `name`, `subscribers` and the artist's channel. YouTube Music's charts show no view counts, so `viewCount` stays empty on chart rows.

Countries (68 + Global, `global`): AR Argentina · AU Australia · AT Austria · BE Belgium · BO Bolivia · BR Brazil · CA Canada · CL Chile · CO Colombia · CR Costa Rica · CZ Czechia · DK Denmark · DO Dominican Republic · EC Ecuador · EG Egypt · SV El Salvador · EE Estonia · FI Finland · FR France · DE Germany · GT Guatemala · HN Honduras · HK Hong Kong · HU Hungary · IS Iceland · IN India · ID Indonesia · IE Ireland · IL Israel · IT Italy · JP Japan · KE Kenya · LU Luxembourg · MY Malaysia · MX Mexico · NL Netherlands · NZ New Zealand · NI Nicaragua · NG Nigeria · NO Norway · PA Panama · PY Paraguay · PE Peru · PH Philippines · PL Poland · PT Portugal · RO Romania · RU Russia · SA Saudi Arabia · RS Serbia · SG Singapore · ZA South Africa · KR South Korea · ES Spain · SE Sweden · CH Switzerland · TW Taiwan · TZ Tanzania · TH Thailand · TR Turkey · UG Uganda · UA Ukraine · AE United Arab Emirates · GB United Kingdom · US United States · UY Uruguay · VN Vietnam · ZW Zimbabwe.

### 🧮 How the ranks are computed

- **fameScore** (0–100) = subscribers 50% + lifetime views 35% + median views of the latest ~30 uploads 15%, each on a log scale (1K subscribers → 0, ~316M → 100; 100K lifetime views → 0, 100B → 100; 100 median views → 0, 10M → 100). Unknown values are left out, not counted as zero.
- **outlierScore** = a video's views ÷ the median views of its channel's latest uploads. 1 = a normal video for that channel, 10 = ten times its usual.
- **risingScore** (0–100) = views per day 60% (1M/day → top) + outlierScore 40% (100× → top), log scales.
- **Breakout** = outlierScore ≥ 3 on a channel at or under the small-channel line.
- **likelyAdViews** = at least 20,000 views but under 0.05% likes (organic videos get ~1–5%). Those are usually paid in-stream ad views; Rising scores them at half and never calls them breakouts.
- **Top creators** are chosen from YouTube's own channel search for the keyword (the first few pages), biggest first; **Most viewed** and **Rising** read YouTube's popularity-ordered search plus its relevance search, then rank by exact numbers read from each video. **Charts** keep YouTube Music's own positions.

### ⌨️ Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **What to find** (`mode`) | `topCreators` · `mostViewed` · `rising` · `charts` |
| **Keywords** (`queries`) | niche keywords or topics, one per line (not used by Charts) |
| **Max results per keyword** (`maxResults`) | rows per keyword or per chart (default 20, max 500; a chart has up to 100) |
| **Country** (`country`) | two-letter code; searches run as YouTube does for people there (default `US`) |
| **Language** (`language`) | YouTube interface language for video searches (default `en`) |
| **Min / Max subscribers**, **Channel countries**, **Uploaded within the last N days**, **Rank creators by** | Top creators filters and order (`fame`, `subscribers`, `totalViews`, `recentViews`) |
| **Uploaded in** (`timeWindow`) | Most viewed: `all`, `year`, `month`, `week`, `today` |
| **Uploaded in the last N days** (`publishedWithinDays`) | Rising: 1–365 (default 7) |
| **Video length** (`videoLength`) | `any`, `short` (<4 min), `medium` (4–20 min), `long` (>20 min) |
| **Rank rising videos by** (`risingRankBy`) | `rising`, `viewsPerDay`, `outlierScore` |
| **Small channel = at most N subscribers** | the breakout line (default 100,000) |
| **Compare each video to its channel** (`compareToChannel`) | on by default (outlier score) |
| **Charts** (`chartTypes`) | `topMusicVideos`, `trending`, `topArtists` (`topSongs` and `topShortsSongs` are not on YouTube Music's charts: skipped, never charged) |
| **Chart period** (`chartPeriod`) | `weekly` or `daily` (daily: top music videos) |
| **Chart countries** (`chartCountries`) | two-letter codes or `global` (68 countries + Global, listed above) |
| **Proxy** | residential by default; accounts without residential fall back to Apify datacenter IPs automatically |

### 📦 Output

One dataset row per ranked creator, video or chart entry. The dataset has four table views: Overview, Top creators, Videos and Charts (YouTube Music). The run's key-value store also holds:

- `RUN_REPORT`: how the run ended, rows per keyword, requests and proxy use;
- `FAILED_INPUTS` (only when needed): keywords YouTube blocked, or charts YouTube Music doesn't have for a country. These are never charged.

### 💵 Pricing

Pay per event:

| Event | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Actor start | once per run (per GB of memory; the default 512 MB = 1) | $0.003 |
| Top creator | one ranked channel saved | $0.004 ($4.00 per 1,000) |
| Ranked video | one most-viewed or rising video saved | $0.003 ($3.00 per 1,000) |
| Chart entry | one YouTube Music chart entry saved | $0.0005 ($0.50 per 1,000) |

Examples: 20 top creators for one niche = $0.003 + 20 × $0.004 = **$0.083**. US top music videos, trending and top artists with Max results 100 (100 + 20 + 40 entries) = $0.003 + 160 × $0.0005 = **$0.083**. Keywords with nothing found, charts YouTube Music doesn't have for a country and keywords YouTube blocks are never charged. Set a maximum cost per run and the actor stops before going over it.

### ❓ FAQ

**Do I need a YouTube account, cookies or an API key?**
No. Everything comes from pages YouTube and YouTube Music show to any visitor without logging in. The actor never logs in, never uses cookies, and never touches private or restricted content.

**Is it legal to scrape YouTube?**
This actor only collects publicly available data that anyone can see on YouTube without signing in. Collecting publicly available data is generally legal, but you're responsible for how you use it. Results include channel names and links, which can count as personal data, so follow privacy laws such as GDPR, PIPEDA and CCPA, and YouTube's terms. If you're unsure, check with a lawyer. More on this: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

**Why doesn't the creator list match Social Blade or another ranking site?**
It ranks the channels YouTube's own search shows for your keyword, not every channel on YouTube. YouTube's search results also vary a little from run to run, and YouTube rounds subscriber counts to three digits (8.21M). Lifetime views and video counts are exact.

**Where is "trending"? Isn't there a Trending page?**
YouTube retired its general Trending page in 2025; what is trending now lives in YouTube's charts. The `trending` chart here is YouTube Music's Trending 20 for a country: today's hottest songs on YouTube. For trending videos in any topic, use **Rising**.

**How fresh are the charts?**
Exactly what YouTube Music's charts show when the run reads them: weekly charts (top music videos, top artists) are this week's ranking, the daily music-video chart is today's, and trending is live. YouTube Music doesn't show a chart date, so `chartEndDate` stays empty; `scrapedAt` says when the chart was read.

**What if a country has no chart?**
YouTube Music's charts cover the 68 countries above plus Global (which has no Trending 20). If you ask for a chart it doesn't have, that chart is listed in `FAILED_INPUTS` and not charged.

**Where are Top songs and Top songs on Shorts?**
YouTube publishes its song charts only on charts.youtube.com, which stopped answering automated requests in October 2026. This actor reads YouTube Music's public charts, which have the music-video, trending and artist charts but no song charts. Asking for `topSongs` or `topShortsSongs` costs nothing: the run says so and moves on.

**What happens if YouTube blocks a request?**
Each request is retried on a fresh IP. A keyword that stays blocked is reported in `FAILED_INPUTS`, not charged, and the run continues. If the very first keyword is blocked, or two in a row later on, YouTube is blocking the whole run: it stops there and says so instead of spending your money on retries. Runs always finish with the rows collected so far and a plain status message.

**Why do some videos say "likely paid ad views"?**
A video promoted as an in-stream ad collects a lot of views with almost no likes. Those views are real but bought, so Rising scores them at half and never counts them as breakouts.

**Is this affiliated with YouTube?**
No. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Top creators: the most famous channels for a niche keyword. Most viewed: the videos with the most views for a topic. Rising: new uploads gaining views fastest, with breakouts from small channels flagged. Charts: YouTube Music's public charts (top music videos weekly or daily, trending, top artists) for 68 countries and Global.

## `language` (type: `string`):

YouTube interface language for video searches (en, es, pt-BR, hi …). It nudges which videos YouTube suggests; numbers are always read exactly. Channel searches always run in English.

## `minSubscribers` (type: `integer`):

Top creators only: skip channels below this many subscribers.

## `maxSubscribers` (type: `integer`):

Top creators only: skip channels above this many subscribers (find mid-size creators).

## `creatorCountries` (type: `array`):

Top creators only: keep channels whose About page names one of these countries (names or 2-letter codes: "US", "Canada", "IN"). Empty = any country.

## `activeWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Top creators only: keep channels whose newest video is at most this many days old.

## `rankBy` (type: `string`):

Most viewed and rising: any length, under 4 minutes, 4–20 minutes, or over 20 minutes.

## `risingRankBy` (type: `string`):

risingScore (0–100: views per day 60%, outlier score 40%), views per day, or outlier score (views ÷ the channel's usual views).

## `smallChannelMaxSubscribers` (type: `integer`):

Rising only: a video at 3× or more of its channel's usual views on a channel this size or smaller is flagged as a breakout.

## `compareToChannel` (type: `boolean`):

Reads each channel's latest uploads once to compute outlierScore and channelMedianViews. Off = a little faster, those fields stay empty (rising then ranks on views per day alone).

## `chartTypes` (type: `array`):

Charts only: which YouTube Music charts to read (music.youtube.com/charts). Each chart × country is one ranked list with YouTube Music's positions and trend (up / down / same). Top songs and Top songs on Shorts are not on YouTube Music's charts: they are skipped and not charged.

## `chartPeriod` (type: `string`):

Weekly or daily. Daily exists for top music videos; top artists are weekly; trending is live.

## `chartCountries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes, or "global" for worldwide. YouTube Music's charts cover 68 countries and Global (list in the README). Empty = the Country field above. A country it does not cover is reported and not charged.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxies (the default) keep YouTube answering. An account without residential proxies falls back to Apify datacenter IPs automatically.

## `proxyStrategy` (type: `string`):

configured = every request through the proxy above. auto = YouTube's JSON pages through Apify datacenter first (cheaper), moving to the proxy above if YouTube blocks them.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many videos are read at once (1–20).
