# Bulk URL Status & Redirect Chain Checker - 404, 301, Final URL (`zhucl1006/bulk-url-status-redirect-checker`) Actor

Check thousands of URLs: HTTP status code, full redirect chain (301/302/307/308 hops), final URL, response time, broken / unreachable flag with DNS/SSL/timeout reason, page title, canonical, meta robots, X-Robots-Tag. For SEO migrations, link audits and lead list cleaning.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk URL Status & Redirect Chain Checker - 404, 301, Final URL

Check a list of URLs (up to hundreds of thousands) and get for each one the **HTTP status code**, the **full redirect chain** hop by hop, the **final URL**, response time, and a clear **broken / unreachable** flag with the reason (DNS, SSL, timeout, redirect loop). For HTML pages it also returns the **title, canonical URL, meta robots and X-Robots-Tag** - everything you need for SEO checks.

Plain HTTP requests, no browser - fast and cheap.

### Who it's for

- **SEO / website migrations**: verify that every old URL 301-redirects to the right new page in one hop (no chains, no loops, no 302s).
- **Link & backlink audits**: find 404s and dead pages in a list of links, affiliate links or a sitemap (combine with our Sitemap URL Extractor).
- **Lead list cleaning**: drop companies whose website no longer resolves or redirects to a parked domain.
- **Short-link expansion**: see where bit.ly / tracking links really end.
- **Monitoring**: schedule daily and alert on `isBroken: true`.

### Input

```json
{ "urls": ["http://apify.com", "https://example.com/old-page", "bit.ly/abc"], "maxRedirects": 10, "timeoutSecs": 20, "extractHtmlInfo": true }
```

### Output (one row per URL)

```json
{
  "inputUrl": "http://apify.com",
  "status": "ok",
  "finalUrl": "https://apify.com/",
  "finalStatusCode": 200,
  "initialStatusCode": 301,
  "redirectCount": 1,
  "redirectChain": [
    { "url": "http://apify.com", "statusCode": 301, "location": "https://apify.com/", "timeMs": 35 },
    { "url": "https://apify.com/", "statusCode": 200, "location": null, "timeMs": 120 }
  ],
  "isBroken": false,
  "isRedirected": true,
  "httpToHttps": true,
  "totalTimeMs": 160,
  "contentType": "text/html; charset=utf-8",
  "server": "cloudflare",
  "xRobotsTag": null,
  "title": "Apify: Full-stack web scraping and data extraction platform",
  "canonical": "https://apify.com/",
  "metaRobots": null,
  "error": null,
  "errorType": null
}
```

`errorType` is one of `dns`, `ssl`, `timeout`, `connection`, `redirect-loop`, `too-many-redirects` (or null).

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.001 per URL checked** (`url-checked`) - $1 per 1,000 URLs, including broken / unreachable ones (that is the answer you need).
- Tiny start fee per run (`apify-actor-start`).
- Invalid URLs are free. Use "Maximum cost per run" to cap spend; the run stops gracefully and keeps saved results.

### Notes

- Some sites block datacenter traffic or bots and may answer 403/429 even though the page works in a browser - shown as is.
- Only the first 300 KB of each HTML page is read.
