## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Search - Clinical Studies, Sponsors, Sites & Status

Search **500,000+ clinical studies** on **ClinicalTrials.gov** (U.S. National Library of Medicine) through the **official API v2**. Filter by condition, drug/intervention, sponsor, location, phase, recruitment status and last-update date, and get one clean JSON row per study: NCT ID, titles, status, phases, conditions, interventions, lead sponsor and collaborators, enrollment, key dates, number of sites, countries, site list and the official study contacts. No API key, no scraping - 50 studies in under a second.

### Who uses it

- **Pharma & biotech business development / competitive intelligence**: track every competitor trial for a drug class or indication; spot new phase 3 starts.
- **CROs, site networks & recruitment vendors**: find recruiting and not-yet-recruiting studies in your countries and reach the official study contacts.
- **Investors & analysts**: monitor pipelines of listed biotechs (sponsor filter) and status changes (terminated, completed, results posted).
- **Medical writers, consultants & researchers**: build landscape tables in minutes instead of days.
- **AI / automation**: daily "updated within 1 day" monitor into Slack, Sheets, a CRM or an LLM via the Apify API.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `conditions` | Diseases, e.g. `obesity`, `NSCLC`. One search per condition. |
| `interventions` | Drugs/devices, e.g. `semaglutide`. Combined with each condition. |
| `searchTerms` | Free text across all fields. |
| `sponsor`, `location` | Sponsor/collaborator name; country/state/city/facility. |
| `statuses` | Recruiting, not yet recruiting, completed... (`ANY` for all). |
| `phases`, `studyType` | Phase 1-4, interventional / observational. |
| `updatedWithinDays` | Only studies updated in the last N days. |
| `maxItemsPerQuery` | Max studies per search (default 100). |
| `includeLocations`, `includeContacts`, `includeDescription` | Optional detail blocks. |

```json
{ "conditions": ["lung cancer"], "interventions": ["pembrolizumab"], "phases": ["PHASE3"], "statuses": ["ANY"], "location": "Germany", "maxItemsPerQuery": 200 }
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.002 per study saved** (`trial`) - 500 studies = $1.
- Tiny start fee per run (`apify-actor-start`). Failed searches are not charged. Set "Maximum cost per run" to cap spend.
