## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Grants.gov Search - US Federal Grants & Funding Opportunities

Search **every U.S. federal funding opportunity** (grants, cooperative agreements - from NIH, NSF, DOE, USDA, NOAA, ED and 1,000+ agency offices) through the **official Grants.gov API** and get one clean JSON row per opportunity: number, title, agency, status, posted date, **application deadline**, **estimated total funding, award ceiling/floor, expected number of awards**, cost-sharing, eligible applicant types, funding categories/instruments, Assistance Listings (CFDA) and the agency's published grants contact. No key, no login.

### Who uses it

- **Nonprofits, universities, hospitals, tribes & local governments**: a weekly list of new opportunities you are eligible for.
- **Small businesses & startups** (SBIR/STTR, R\&D): filter by "Small businesses" + "Science & technology".
- **Grant writers & consultants**: lead lists of open opportunities and deadlines for your clients.
- **Funding-intelligence / GovTech products**: a clean feed into your database, CRM or newsletter via the Apify API.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `keywords` | One search per line; empty = all matching the filters. |
| `statuses` | Posted (open), forecasted, closed, archived. |
| `agencies` | Agency codes, e.g. `NSF`, `HHS-NIH11`, `DOE`. |
| `eligibilities` | Applicant types (nonprofits, small businesses, universities, governments...). |
| `fundingCategories`, `fundingInstruments` | Health, education, science & tech... / grant, cooperative agreement. |
| `assistanceListings` | ALN/CFDA numbers, e.g. `93.855`. |
| `postedWithinDays` | 7 / 14 / 21 / 28 / 56 - ideal for a scheduled monitor. |
| `sortBy`, `maxItemsPerQuery` | Order (newest, deadline soonest...) and volume. |
| `includeDetails`, `includeDescription` | Funding details & contacts (default on) / full text. |

Default input (Store auto-test) = posted and forecasted opportunities from the last 14 days (max 25).

```json
{ "keywords": ["artificial intelligence"], "statuses": ["posted"], "eligibilities": ["12", "23"], "sortBy": "closeDate|asc", "maxItemsPerQuery": 200 }
```

### Output (one row per opportunity)

```json
{
  "opportunityId": "361380", "opportunityNumber": "RFA-EB-26-004", "title": "...", "agency": "National Institutes of Health",
  "topAgency": "Department of Health and Human Services", "oppStatus": "posted", "postedDate": "2026-10-23", "closeDate": "2030-12-01",
  "estimatedTotalFunding": 6000000.0, "awardCeiling": null, "awardFloor": null, "expectedNumberOfAwards": 4.0, "costSharingRequired": false,
  "eligibleApplicants": ["Private institutions of higher education", "Small businesses", "..."], "fundingInstruments": ["Grant"],
  "url": "https://www.grants.gov/search-results-detail/361380"
}
```

Forecasted opportunities also include `estimatedPostDate`, `estimatedApplicationDue`, `estimatedAwardDate` and `fiscalYear`.

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.002 per opportunity saved** (`grant-result`) - 500 opportunities = $1.
- Tiny start fee per run (`apify-actor-start`). Failed searches are not charged. Set "Maximum cost per run" to cap spend.

### Data source & license

- Data from the **Grants.gov Applicant API** (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, on behalf of federal grant-making agencies). Federal government data is public domain in the U.S.
- Contacts are the official agency grants contacts published on each opportunity - use them only for questions about that opportunity. Always confirm deadlines and eligibility in the official announcement. Not affiliated with Grants.gov or any agency.
