## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## OFAC SDN Sanctions Screener - Batch Org Name Screening

Batch-screen **organization names against the official US Treasury OFAC Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list**. Downloads the public SDN.CSV, caches it for 24 hours, and returns one row per screened name with match / clean status, best hit, score and program codes. No API key.

Default scope is **Entity (organization)** only — suitable for B2B KYC / KYB and lead hygiene. Optionally include individuals, vessels and aircraft.

### Who uses it

- **KYC / KYB / compliance** teams screening customer or counterparty org names.
- **B2B sales & lead gen** hygiene: drop or flag leads that hit US sanctions.
- **Fintech / remittance / trade** onboarding pipelines.
- **Due diligence / OSINT** enrichment before outreach.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `names` | Organization names to screen (one per line). |
| `matchMode` | `exact` / `contains` (default) / `fuzzy`. |
| `minScore` | Fuzzy threshold 0–100 (default 80). |
| `entityTypes` | `entity` (default), `individual`, `vessel`, `aircraft`. |
| `includeAliases` | Also match `a.k.a.` aliases from Remarks (default true). |
| `maxMatchesPerName` | Cap hits returned per name (default 10). |
| `forceRefresh` | Re-download SDN.CSV, ignore 24h cache. |

Default input (Store auto-test) screens `AEROCARIBBEAN AIRLINES` and `BANCO NACIONAL DE CUBA` (known Entity hits).

```json
{
  "names": ["AEROCARIBBEAN AIRLINES", "ACME TRADING LLC"],
  "matchMode": "contains",
  "entityTypes": ["entity"],
  "includeAliases": true,
  "maxMatchesPerName": 10
}
```

### Output (one row per screened name)

```json
{
  "status": "ok",
  "query": "AEROCARIBBEAN AIRLINES",
  "matched": true,
  "matchCount": 1,
  "bestMatch": {
    "uid": "36",
    "name": "AEROCARIBBEAN AIRLINES",
    "type": "entity",
    "programs": "CUBA",
    "remarks": "",
    "score": 100,
    "matchedAs": "primary"
  },
  "matches": [ /* up to maxMatchesPerName */ ],
  "listFetchedAt": "2026-11-05T02:00:00Z",
  "sourceUrl": "https://sanctionslistservice.ofac.treas.gov/api/publicationpreview/exports/SDN.CSV"
}
```

Clean (no hit) rows still count as a screened name. `RUN_SUMMARY` in the key-value store shows hit/clean counts and SDN entry count.

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.002 per name screened** (`name-screened`) — charged for every input name (hit or clean). ~500 screens = $1.
- Tiny start fee per run (`apify-actor-start`). Failed list downloads / per-name errors are not charged. Set "Maximum cost per run" to cap spend.

### Data source & license

- Data from the **US Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)** public SDN list export. See [OFAC Sanctions List Service](https://sanctionslistservice.ofac.treas.gov/).
- This Actor is **not affiliated** with the US Treasury or OFAC. Screening output is a technical aid — not legal advice. Always confirm matches against the official OFAC sources before taking compliance action.
- Cache: parsed SDN entries are stored in the Actor's default key-value store under `SDN_CACHE` for up to 24 hours (override with `forceRefresh`).

# Actor input Schema

## `names` (type: `array`):

One organization / entity name per line. Each name is screened once against OFAC SDN (charged as name-screened whether match or clean).

## `matchMode` (type: `string`):

How to compare the query against SDN primary names and aliases.

## `minScore` (type: `integer`):

Only used when matchMode=fuzzy. Keep ≥80 for KYC to reduce false positives.

## `entityTypes` (type: `array`):

Filter SDN rows by type. Default Entity only (OFAC type -0-). Add others for broader screens.

## `includeAliases` (type: `boolean`):

Also match names parsed from Remarks (a.k.a. '…'). Recommended for KYC.

## `maxMatchesPerName` (type: `integer`):

Cap how many SDN hits are returned per screened name (best scores first).

## `forceRefresh` (type: `boolean`):

Ignore the 24h cache and re-download SDN.CSV from US Treasury.
