## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## UK Companies House - Company Data & Officers

Pull **UK company data straight from the official Companies House register** into a spreadsheet: company name and number, **status** (active, dissolved, liquidation...), **company type, incorporation date, SIC codes, registered office address**, previous names, **accounts and confirmation statement due dates** (overdue flags), charges / insolvency flags, plus optional **officers (directors)** and **filing history**. Search by **company name** or look up **company numbers** in bulk.

Great for KYC / supplier checks, B2B lead lists, CRM enrichment, due-diligence and accountancy prospecting (find companies with accounts due soon).

### How to use it

1. Get your **free Companies House API key** (2 minutes): go to [developer.company-information.service.gov.uk](https://developer.company-information.service.gov.uk), register, **Create an application** (choose *Live*), then **Create new key** > *REST*. Paste it into **Companies House API key** - it's a secret input, never shown in logs or output.
2. Add **company numbers** and/or **company names** to search.
3. Optionally switch on **officers** and **filing history**. Start, then export CSV / Excel / JSON.

**No key yet?** The Actor still works in a limited mode: up to 20 companies per run, profile fields only (no officers / filings), read from the public GOV.UK company pages at 1 request per second. Add a key for full speed and all fields.

### Output example

```json
{"companyNumber": "00445790", "companyName": "TESCO PLC", "status": "ok", "companyStatus": "active", "companyType": "plc",
 "incorporatedOn": "1947-11-27", "sicCodes": ["47110"], "registeredOfficeAddress": "Tesco House, Shire Park, Kestrel Way, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 1GA",
 "accountsNextDue": "2027-08-24", "confirmationStatementNextDue": "2027-06-15", "officersCount": 14,
 "officers": [{"name": "SMITH, Jane", "role": "director", "appointedOn": "2020-01-01", "nationality": "British", "birthMonthYear": "1970-05"}],
 "companiesHouseUrl": "https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00445790"}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Companies | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 | $0.30 |
| 1,000 | $3.00 |
| 10,000 | $30.00 |

Plus $0.00005 per run start. Officers and filing history are **included** at no extra cost. **Free:** invalid numbers, companies not found, searches with no results, errors. The Apify Free plan's $5 monthly credit covers about 1,600 companies. If your **Maximum cost per run** is reached, the Actor stops cleanly and lists the remaining numbers as `NOT_PROCESSED_COMPANIES` in the key-value store.

### Speed and limits

The official API allows 600 requests per 5 minutes per key. The Actor stays under that (about 2 requests/s) and waits on `429` - it never tries to bypass the limit. One company = 1 request (+1 for officers, +1 for filings), so about 1,000 profiles in under 10 minutes.

### Data protection (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Officer data is **personal data** even though Companies House publishes it. The Actor minimises it: **no home or correspondence addresses**, birth date as month/year only (as published), current officers only unless you ask for resigned ones. You are the controller of the data you collect: have a lawful basis (e.g. legitimate interest for B2B checks), respect objections and PECR rules for marketing, and don't keep data longer than needed. Data: Companies House, Open Government Licence v3.0.

Not affiliated with Companies House.
