## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website SEO Audit & Broken Link Checker

Audit any website in minutes. Give it one or many homepages; it **crawls up to N pages per site**, checks every page for **on-page SEO problems**, tests **internal and external links for broken ones (404, 500, dead domains)** and gives you **one summary report per site with an SEO score**. Built for SEO agencies, web designers and site owners who need a quick, repeatable audit for many client sites - export to CSV / Excel or run on a schedule.

### What is checked

**Per page:** HTTP status and redirects, response time, title (missing / too long / too short), meta description (missing / too long), H1 (missing / multiple), H2 count, canonical (missing / self), robots meta (noindex), html lang, viewport meta, Open Graph title/image, structured data (JSON-LD), word count (thin content), images without `alt`, internal/external link counts.

**Per site:** SEO score 0-100, broken internal and external links with the pages where they were found, duplicate titles and meta descriptions, issue counts across pages, HTTPS, robots.txt and sitemaps, average word count and response time.

### How to use it

1. Paste websites (one per line).
2. Set **Max pages per site** (default 20) and **Max links to check**.
3. Start. Output has two views: **Site reports** and **Pages**. Export as CSV / Excel / JSON.

Input example:

```json
{"startUrls": ["https://books.toscrape.com"], "maxPagesPerSite": 20, "checkExternalLinks": true, "maxLinksToCheckPerSite": 200}
```

Site report example (shortened):

```json
{"rowType": "site", "site": "www.scrapethissite.com", "seoScore": 64, "pagesCrawled": 10, "brokenLinksCount": 3,
 "brokenLinks": [{"url": "https://www.scrapethissite.com/pages/advanced/?gotcha=login", "statusCode": 400, "internal": true, "foundOn": ["https://www.scrapethissite.com/pages/"]}],
 "issueCounts": {"title longer than 60 characters": 8, "missing canonical": 8, "images without alt": 8, "noindex": 5}}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

| What | Price |
|---|---|
| Page audited (`page-audited`) | $0.001 |
| Site report (`site-report`) | $0.01 |
| Run start | $0.00005 |

| Example | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1 site x 20 pages | $0.03 |
| 10 sites x 20 pages | $0.30 |
| 100 sites x 50 pages | $6.00 |

**Free:** link checking, unreachable / blocked / invalid sites (no report, no charge). Turn off **Output per-page rows** to pay only $0.01 per site. The Apify Free plan's $5 monthly credit covers about 160 sites x 20 pages.

If your **Maximum cost per run** is reached, the Actor stops cleanly; saved results are kept and the remaining URLs are listed in the key-value store as `NOT_PROCESSED_URLS`.

### How it works (and what it doesn't do)

- Plain HTTP crawl of the same host, breadth-first from the homepage, **robots.txt respected**, pages fetched one by one per site (polite). JavaScript is not executed, so content rendered only by JavaScript is not seen.
- External sites that answer 401/403/429/999 (login or bot protection, e.g. LinkedIn) are not reported as broken.
- No login, no captcha solving, no anti-bot bypass; protected sites are reported as `blocked` and not charged.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Homepages or domains to audit. The crawl stays on the same host.

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Pages crawled and audited per website (each page is one charged event when page rows are on).

## `checkExternalLinks` (type: `boolean`):

Also test links to other websites (HEAD request).

## `maxLinksToCheckPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Unique links tested for broken status (internal first). Free - included in the site report.

## `includePageRows` (type: `boolean`):

Off = only the site summary row is output and charged (the summary still lists every crawled page with its issues).

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Pages within one site are fetched one by one (polite).

## `requestTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Per request.
