Hello world 👋🏻
I started Civil Engineering at the University in Wollongong, then switched to TAFE to earn a Certificate III in Detail Drafting, then came back to University to complete a degree in Computer Science. I was hired as a software engineer in Brisbane working with Java.
But, then I got sick.
A few years after brain surgery, I tried to return to part-time work locally here in the Bega Valley coding mainly with PHP and WordPress, but my disability hindered my safety in the office.
To re-teach myself to read I joined a local writers group where I joined the committee and was later elected president for 5 years in a row. Each year, I organised a writers retreat.
A few years ago, I met someone, got engaged, had two kids and bought a farm.
To make ends meet, I started occasionally driving for Uber Eats. It's something I could actually do. I had to fight Transport NSW for 4 months to get the medical suspension on my license lifted, but it was worth it. But to do my job, I needed more information that their driver app provided.
- Which stores were online/closed/turned off?
- Which stores had their own drivers?
- When were the stores open?
Then I noticed a pattern that while I was delivering, occasionally ordering would switch to pickup only. So I need to alert my fiance and have him go online to open up delivery so I have more trip requests waiting for me once I complete the current trip.
In regional NSW Australia Uber Eats doesn't really work unless you have access to multiple accounts. Because sometimes, the company will take away a trip request if there is a delay! If I'm the only person on Uber Eats in the area... what other driver are they supposedly going to offer the trip request to!!??!?
