Hi there,
I apologize if this isn’t the right channel for my question, but I’ve looked everywhere and couldn’t find a clear answer.
When I use a specific hashtag to scrape videos, does the scraper pull the “most popular videos” from a specific time frame, or is the selection random?
I’d like to understand this better so I can use it effectively.

Hi, thanks for the question!
When we scrape hashtags, we scrape a page of this kind on TikTok's website: https://www.tiktok.com/tag/cats. I am not sure how exactly TikTok decides what to put in there, but the videos (form what I've observed) may not be updated for days and even weeks, and you can see there are videos that are close to a year old already (but they might've been added just recently, I'm not sure about that). I've tried looking up if someone made an investigation into what this page tends to show, but couldn't find.
So, I'd say you shouldn't expect a fixed timeframe for the videos, but you may expect that they are popular and/or trending
I wouldn't recommend setting up anything like a daily schedule to scrape this page, because the page's content doesn't change often
Also, note that the page won't output more that a few hundred results for non-logged-in users, so we're currently limited at ~500-600 videos per page
