Search Trulia, the US real estate portal, by city and state and get back structured listing data: price, address, bedrooms, bathrooms, floor size and the listing URL. No login, no cookies, no API key from Trulia itself.

Why use this scraper

Trulia does not offer a public API for bulk listing search, and most of the US real estate data people need (price, bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, exact address) sits behind a search UI built for browsing, not for pulling structured records. Building and maintaining a Trulia parser from scratch means tracking every markup change Trulia makes.

This Actor does that work for you. Point it at a US city and state and a listing type (for sale or for rent), and it returns structured records in seconds, no Trulia account, no login wall, no CAPTCHA to solve by hand. Floor size is returned as both a value and a unit, so square-footage comparisons across listings do not require parsing a text string first. Billing is per listing returned, so you only pay for data you actually get.

It is built to drop into an existing pipeline without extra glue code: give it a city and state and a listing type, and the output schema stays identical every time, whether the city has 5 active listings or 500, and whether the listing is a resale home or a new-construction builder plan.

Overview

Give the Actor a location (a US city and state, such as "Austin, TX" or "Miami, FL"), a listing type ("for_sale" or "for_rent") and a maximum item count, and it returns one record per property: listing title, price, currency, a thumbnail image URL, property type, bedroom count, bathroom count, floor size (value and unit), street address, city, state, ZIP code, the canonical listing URL and a timestamp. A single run paginates through Trulia's search results automatically until it reaches the requested item count.

Supported inputs

FieldTypeDescription
locationstringUS city and state, e.g. "Austin, TX", "Miami, FL"
listingTypestringfor_sale or for_rent
maxItemsintegerMaximum number of listings to return (paginates automatically), 1 to 100

Use cases

  1. Investor and portfolio screening - pull current for-sale listings in a target city, filter by price and floor size, then shortlist candidates for a closer look.
  2. Relocation and corporate housing services - gather for-rent listings in a destination city to build a housing-options report for a relocating employee.
  3. Comps and valuation research - collect price and square-footage data across a city's active listings to support a comparable-sales analysis.
  4. PropTech and market research - track asking prices and listing counts by city over time to spot regional trends without licensing a commercial feed.
  5. New-construction and builder monitoring - many Trulia listings are new-construction floor plans from builders; track which plans and price points are being released in a growing suburb.

How it works

The Actor requests Trulia's search results for the given city/state and listing type and reads the structured listing data Trulia's own pages expose for each result card, including floor size as a parsed value and unit, rather than depending on a brittle visual layout or free-text square-footage parsing. It paginates through successive pages of results automatically, deduplicates listings by their canonical URL, and stops once it has gathered the number of items requested in maxItems. Every returned record uses the same flat schema whether the listing is an existing home for sale or a new-construction builder plan.

Input configuration - 3 examples

Mode 1 - homes for sale in Austin, TX:

{
"location": "Austin, TX",
"listingType": "for_sale",
"maxItems": 50
}

Mode 2 - homes for rent in Miami, FL:

{
"location": "Miami, FL",
"listingType": "for_rent",
"maxItems": 25
}

Mode 3 - small test run:

{
"location": "Denver, CO",
"listingType": "for_sale",
"maxItems": 5
}

Pricing

EventPrice
Listing scraped$0.004 per listing

That works out to $4.00 per 1,000 listings returned, with no separate charge for starting the Actor and no charge for a search that returns zero matches.

What makes this richer than the competition

Two other Trulia scrapers on the Apify Store, by other publishers: azzouzana/trulia-scraper and memo23/trulia-scraper. Both split billing across a per-item event plus a separate actor-start fee, which adds a fixed cost to every run regardless of how many listings come back. This Actor charges only the single "listing scraped" event, so a small exploratory run and a large production pull cost the same per listing, and the floor size comes pre-parsed into a value and a unit rather than left as raw text.

Notes & limitations

  • Covers Trulia's for-sale and for-rent residential listings, including new-construction builder plans; it does not cover commercial property or Trulia's neighborhood/school data pages.
  • location should be a US city and state (e.g. "Austin, TX"); an unsupported or misspelled city returns zero results rather than a best guess.
  • floorSizeValue is returned as the text Trulia itself displays (e.g. "3,399"), so strip commas before converting to a number if needed.
  • Not every listing includes an image or every field populated above; builder-plan listings sometimes omit a street address in favor of a plan name.
  • Trulia can change its page structure at any time; if that happens, results may temporarily be empty until the Actor is updated.
  • The Actor does not log in or hold a Trulia account of any kind, so it cannot access saved searches or alerts gated behind a personal account.
  • Billing is per listing returned, with no separate actor-start fee, so a 5-item test and a 500-item production run cost the same per listing.

FAQ

Does this need a Trulia account or login? No. It reads Trulia's public search results directly.

Can I filter by price or bedroom count? Not directly in the input. Pull the listings for a city and filter the returned records by price or bedrooms downstream.

Why do some listings show a plan name instead of a street address? Trulia lists new-construction builder floor plans alongside resale homes; a plan has not yet been assigned a street address, so the plan name is returned in its place.

Is Trulia data the same as Zillow data? Trulia and Zillow are related but separate listing sites with their own search results and their own listing ids; this Actor reads Trulia's own pages directly, not Zillow's.

Can I run this on a schedule? Yes. Apify's built-in scheduler can call this Actor daily or weekly to track listing counts or price changes in a city over time.

Does it work for any US city, or only major metros? Any city and state that Trulia itself has active listings for is supported through the location field; smaller markets simply return fewer results.
