Comic Books Scraper by RecordsData extracts comic book prices from PriceCharting.com at six real grades: Ungraded, 4.0/VG, 6.0/Fine, 8.0/VF, 9.2/NM- and 9.8. Search by series title, issue number and year (amazing spider-man 300), or use product IDs, whole series, whole publishers or URLs. You get the 14-point price schedule, cover image, UPC and sales volume per issue, plus optional CGC population, price history and eBay sold comps. Export CSV, Excel or JSON. No login, no API key. $0.02 per issue.

Comic Books Scraper turns PriceCharting comic data into a structured price table. In a verified cloud run, the search amazing spider-man 300 returned five #300 variants from different volumes, each with grade prices and no error rows.

๐Ÿ“š Comic Books Scraper: what does it do?

  • Finds issues by series title, optional issue number and optional year, for example amazing spider-man 300, batman 1 2011 or spawn.
  • Scrapes issues by PriceCharting product ID, whole series by name, whole publishers (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Dell, Other), or series, issue and publisher page URLs.
  • Adds cover image, series, issue number, volume year, UPC, ASIN, eBay product ID and sales volume when listed.
  • Has four optional extras: CGC population, issue details, price history and sold comps.
  • Has a monitor mode that delivers only new or repriced issues, and never charges for pages that are not found, have no price data, or fail.

๐Ÿ’ฐ How much does it cost to scrape comic book prices?

Pay per event, only for delivered data. Live Store prices read on 2026-10-09 (FREE plan tier; paid plans pay less, down to $0.01714 per issue on Gold).

EventPriceWhen it is charged
price-record$0.02One comic issue with its six grade prices, full price schedule and identifiers
population-record$0.01Per CGC population count returned (14 per issue)
issue-details-record$0.01Per issue with details
price-history-record$0.01Per grade series returned (6 per issue)
sold-comps-record$0.01Per sold listing returned

Real measured examples from cloud runs, priced at the FREE tier:

  • 10 issues, no extras: 10 price-record events, $0.20.
  • 5 issues from the search amazing spider-man 300 with all four extras on: 5 price-record, 14 population-record, 5 issue-details-record, 30 price-history-record and 690 sold-comps-record events, about $7.49. Sold comps are $6.90 of that because one popular issue can carry 100+ listings.

No charge for failed, not-found or empty pages or error rows. In monitor mode, unchanged issues are not billed. The actor stops cleanly at your maximum cost per run. Free Apify users are limited to 10 items per run.

Cost per 1,000 issues: 1,000 price-record events x $0.02 = $20.00 without extras. Adding CGC population adds 14 population-record events each (14,000 x $0.01 = $140.00), so enable extras only where you need them.

๐Ÿš€ How to scrape comic book prices in 3 steps

  1. Type a search such as amazing spider-man 300 in Search by title, or use product IDs, series names, publishers or URLs. Any mix works, and duplicates are delivered once.
  2. Set Max Items (default 10) and switch on only the extras you need.
  3. Click Start and download the dataset as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML.

โš™๏ธ Input

onlyChanged, stateKey, resetSeenmixedfalseMonitor mode for new or repriced issues; monitor name; clear the seen list

Give at least one of search, product ID, series, publisher or URL. Search for one issue:

{
"searchQueries": ["amazing spider-man 300"],
"maxItems": 5,
"includeSoldComps": false
}

Marvel has about 2,000 series, so always set Max Items when scanning a publisher. For monitoring, run {"series": ["Amazing Spider-Man"], "maxItems": 500, "onlyChanged": true} on a schedule.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Output

One dataset row per issue, up to 29 keys with any extras you enabled. If a series or issue does not exist, the run ends SUCCEEDED with a free error row. If PriceCharting blocks the request or the layout changes, the run FAILS with a clear message and no charge.

Rivals cover games, cards, LEGO and Funko, while we cover comics only. jungle_synthesizer publishes last_sold_at, which we lack. Our search is by series title, issue number and year, not free text. Every rival is cheaper per 1,000. The extra cost buys named comic grades, the free full price guide, only-changed monitoring and per-grade sold comps.

๐Ÿ’ผ Use cases

  • Grading ROI: compare the ungraded price against 9.2 and 9.8 before paying to submit a book.
  • Collection valuation: value a list of issues by product ID or title in a spreadsheet.
  • Price monitoring: schedule a series with onlyChanged and get only issues whose price moved.

๐Ÿค– Comic Books Scraper MCP server for AI agents

AI agents can call this Actor through the Apify MCP server at https://mcp.apify.com?tools=RecordsData/comics-scraper, which loads only this Actor as a tool. Add this to your MCP client configuration (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code or any remote MCP client):

{
"mcpServers": {
"apify": {
"url": "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=RecordsData/comics-scraper"
}
}
}

Example agent prompt:

Use the Comic Books Scraper with searchQueries ["amazing spider-man 300"] and maxItems 5, then tell me which variant has the biggest gap between its Ungraded and 9.8 price. Leave sold comps off.

Choose this tool when an agent needs grade-level comic book values (Ungraded to 9.8) from PriceCharting. It takes the Input table fields above and returns one dataset row per issue.

The actor reads publicly visible price pages and does not log in or bypass authentication. You are responsible for following PriceCharting's terms of service and applicable law, and for how you use the data. This is an independent tool, not affiliated with PriceCharting or CGC.

โ“ Frequently asked questions

Why does the output use grade_4_0 and grade_9_8 instead of PriceCharting field names?

PriceCharting reuses one generic price table for every category, so its internal field names come from video games. The six price fields are renamed to the real comic grades: Ungraded, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0, 9.2 and 9.8. That way grade_9_8 means the 9.8 price of the comic issue, not a video-game condition.

What is the fullPriceGuide field?

fullPriceGuide is the 14-point price schedule that PriceCharting shows on the same comic issue page: Ungraded plus every grade from 2.0 up to 10.0. It is included in every price-record at no extra charge. Grades that have no sales on PriceCharting may be missing from the object.

How much does it cost to scrape 1,000 comic issues?

Comic Books Scraper costs $20 for 1,000 issues without extras (1,000 x $0.02 price-record on the FREE tier, read 2026-10-09). Each extra you enable is billed per returned item at $0.01, for example one sold-comps-record per sold listing. Sold comps can add many events per issue, so test with a small maxItems first.

Why did I get 0 results?

Nothing is returned when no series matches your search, the URL or product ID does not exist, the issue has no price data, or every issue was a duplicate. Failed inputs give a free error row and nothing is charged. In monitor mode, zero rows also means nothing changed. If the run FAILED, retry later.

Can I search by comic name?

Yes, by series title. Type the series name, then an optional issue number and year, such as amazing spider-man 300 or batman 1 2011. PriceCharting's own search page sits behind Cloudflare, so the actor matches your words against the comic series index on the six publisher pages instead.

How does search work, and why is it not free text?

Search matches your words against series names, not creators, characters or cover titles. It tries an exact name first, then names that start with your words, then names containing all of them, and reads the best matches, capped by Series per search. An issue number filters the series listing; without one you get the series up to Max Items.

How do I scan a whole publisher and set Max Items?

Select one or more publishers (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Dell or Other) and the actor walks their series, most popular first, until Max Items is reached. Marvel alone has about 2,000 series, so start with 200 on a small publisher such as Dell, check the cost, then raise it.

How do I monitor comic price changes?

Turn on Only new or price-changed issues and run the same input on a schedule. The first run delivers everything, then each later run delivers only issues not seen before or whose price in any of the six grades moved. Unchanged issues are not billed. State lives in a store named comics-seen in your account.

Why is the CGC population an unlabeled array?

PriceCharting publishes the CGC census as raw counts without grade labels. The actor therefore returns the 14 counts in cgcPopulation in the same order the site publishes them, instead of inventing labels that could be wrong. Each count is billed as one $0.01 population-record when includePopulation is enabled.

What are sold comps?

Sold comps are recent eBay sold listings that PriceCharting tracks for a comic issue, organised in one tab per grade. Each comp carries its grade, date, title, price and source. They are optional (includeSoldComps), billed at $0.01 per listing, and one popular issue can carry 100 or more listings.

Is there a free tier?

Free Apify users can run the actor with up to 10 items per run, enough to test a search such as amazing spider-man 300. Paid Apify plans allow up to 1,000,000 items per run. Prices stated here are the FREE plan tier prices, and paid plans get lower per-event rates.

What happens if I send an empty or invalid input?

If you give no search, product ID, series, publisher or valid pricecharting.com URL, the run ends SUCCEEDED with a single free error row (errorType: invalid-input, plus error and hint) and nothing is charged. A wrong product ID is reported as a failed ID and not charged.

Does Comic Books Scraper stop at my budget?

Yes. Set a maximum cost per run in Apify and the actor stops cleanly once the limit is reached, ending with the message "Stopped at your max charge limit". Because sold comps are billed per listing, a spending limit is a good safety net on a long series or a whole publisher.
