FAA Aircraft Registry & Pilot Certification Lookup returns the FAA registration record for any US N-Number (owner, manufacturer, model, engine, status, dates), every NTSB accident or incident linked to that tail number, and the FAA certificates of a pilot found by name. Export CSV, Excel, JSON or API. No login, no API key. Priced per record found: $0.02 aircraft, $0.01 pilot certificate, $0.01 NTSB incident.

FAA aircraft registry lookup by N-Number, FAA airmen (pilot) certificate lookup by name, and NTSB accident history for the same registration, all in one dataset. One run replaces three separate government searches: registry.faa.gov, amsrvs.registry.faa.gov and data.ntsb.gov. It reads each agency's own public records, so the data is as fresh as the source and needs no login or API key.

✈️ FAA aircraft registry lookup: what does this Actor do?

  • Look up an FAA aircraft registration by N-Number (tail number) and get the registered owner, address, manufacturer, model, serial number, engine, certificate status and dates.
  • Check NTSB accident and incident records linked to the same registration number. A registration can outlive the aircraft in accident history, so this runs even when the aircraft record is deregistered.
  • Find an FAA-certificated pilot by name and get each certificate: type, issue date, ratings and limits.
  • Combine all three in one run: set an N-Number and a pilot name together and the rows share one dataset, told apart by recordType.
  • Export as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML, call it from the API, schedule it, or plug it into Zapier, Make or n8n.

📊 FAA registry data: what can you extract?

Every row has a recordType field: aircraft-record, airmen-record or incident-record. Fields with no value at the source are left out of the row instead of being filled with placeholders, so you never get empty columns.

In that test, N1234 returned 1 aircraft record and 3 NTSB incidents, and the pilot search returned 1 certificate.

💰 FAA registry lookup cost: how much does it cost?

You pay per record delivered. A run is charged only for rows that are saved with real data.

EventPrice per recordPer 1,000
aircraft-record (one FAA registration)$0.02$20
airmen-record (one pilot certificate)$0.01$10
incident-record (one NTSB accident or incident)$0.01$10

Prices above are the live Free-plan prices; paid Apify plans get small tier discounts shown on the Pricing tab. The N1234 plus Armstrong test above (1 aircraft, 3 incidents, 1 pilot certificate) costs $0.06 at these prices. You are not charged for not-found rows, error rows, N-Number reservations that have no aircraft yet, or empty searches, and the run respects the maximum charge limit you set in Apify.

🚀 How to look up an FAA aircraft or pilot (3 steps)

  1. Open the Actor and enter an N-Number (for example N12345), a pilot Last Name (plus First Name for common surnames), or both.
  2. Leave Max Items at 10 or raise it. Free Apify accounts are limited to 10 items per run.
  3. Click Start, then download the dataset as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML, or read it through the API.

⚙️ Input

FieldTypeDescription
nNumberstringUS aircraft registration number, for example N12345. Returns the aircraft record plus linked NTSB incidents.
lastNamestringPilot last name, for example Armstrong. Optional; works alone or with an N-Number.
firstNamestringPilot first name, for example Neil. Narrows a common surname.
maxItemsintegerMaximum rows across all record types. Default 10, maximum 1,000,000. Free accounts are capped at 10.

You must provide an N-Number, a Last Name, or both. An invalid N-Number format or an empty input stops the run before anything is fetched or charged.

{
"nNumber": "N1234",
"lastName": "Armstrong",
"firstName": "Neil",
"maxItems": 10
}

📦 Output

Rows go to the default dataset. The Aircraft, Pilots & Incidents view shows record type, N-Number, manufacturer, model, owner, pilot name, certificate, NTSB number, city and state. The full dataset has every field above.

If nothing matches (a deregistered N-Number with no NTSB history, or a pilot who is not in the FAA registry), the run ends as succeeded with a status message and charges nothing. If the FAA or NTSB site is unreachable or blocks the request and no rows could be delivered, the run fails with a clear message and charges nothing.

🔍 FAA aircraft registry scraper vs alternatives

Prices read from the public Apify Store listings on 2026-10-03.

Other FAA registry actors on the Store return aircraft ownership only, and several are cheaper per aircraft record. This Actor costs more per aircraft because every lookup also returns the NTSB accident history for that tail number and can look up pilot certificates, which the aircraft-only actors do not cover. If you only need bulk aircraft ownership rows, a cheaper aircraft-only actor is the better fit.

💼 FAA registry use cases

  • Aircraft pre-purchase screening: check registration status, registered owner and NTSB accident history before an offer.
  • Insurance and underwriting: confirm an aircraft's accident history and a pilot's certificate level before quoting.
  • Aviation lead generation: build owner lists for maintenance, avionics or insurance outreach from public registration data.
  • Journalism and safety research: cross-reference aircraft ownership with NTSB records.

🔌 FAA registry API, schedule and integrations

Call the Actor from code with the Apify API client:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/recordsdata~faa-aircraft-airmen-registry/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"nNumber": "N1234", "maxItems": 10}'

Schedule a run per N-Number to catch registration or ownership changes, send results to Google Sheets, Slack or a database with Zapier, Make or n8n, or call it from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

The FAA aircraft registry, the FAA airmen certification database and the NTSB accident database are public government records, the same data you see by searching the agency sites by hand. This Actor only reads those public pages and does not log in or bypass any protection. Use the data in line with the sources' terms and your local privacy rules, especially when handling owner names and addresses.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does this return only aircraft ownership, or also pilots and accidents? All three: FAA aircraft registration, FAA pilot certificates, and NTSB accident or incident records linked to the N-Number.

Why did my run return 0 results? Either the N-Number is deregistered or was never issued and has no NTSB history, or the pilot name is not in the FAA registry, or the surname matches more than 50 pilots. In all those cases nothing is charged. A last-name-only search that matches over 50 pilots returns no rows; add a First Name.

Do I need an FAA or NTSB API key? No. The Actor reads each agency's public pages and API without a login or key.

Can I look up several N-Numbers in one run? No. One run looks up one N-Number and one pilot. For a batch, start one run per N-Number through the API or a schedule.

What happens with a reserved N-Number that has no aircraft yet? The row is saved so you can see the reserving party, but it is not charged as an aircraft record.

Why is the pilot ratings text one long string? The FAA publishes ratings and limits as free text. The Actor returns that text as the FAA shows it, so you can parse it for your own needs.

How fresh is the data? As fresh as the source. FAA registry entries update as filings are processed, and NTSB records appear once the agency publishes them. Each row has a scrapedAt timestamp.

Is the registered owner's name and address public? Yes, the FAA aircraft registry is a public record and this is the same data shown on registry.faa.gov.

Does it work through MCP and AI agents? Yes. The input fields have plain descriptions and maxItems has a default, so an agent can run it with only an N-Number.
