๐ SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper: 10-K, 10-Q, Insider Trades & XBRL
SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper pulls filing history, parsed Form 3/4/5 insider transactions, XBRL financial facts and full-text search hits for any public company from SEC's own official API. Each row is one filing, one insider transaction batch, one financial concept or one search hit. Export CSV, Excel or JSON. No login or API key needed. Filing rows cost $0.015 each.
SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper reads data.sec.gov and efts.sec.gov, the SEC's public endpoints, so there is no HTML scraping and no login. Give it a ticker such as AAPL or a CIK and it returns that company's most recent filings, newest first, with form type, filing date, accession number and a direct document URL. A real run for Apple on 2026-10-03 returned a Form 4 filed 2026-10-01 with the parsed insider sale (2,399 shares at $336.18) inside the same row.
๐ What does SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper do?
It covers four jobs, each with its own row type (recordType):
- Filing history (
filing-record): every form type the company filed (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 4, S-1 and so on), filterable by form. - Insider transactions (parsed from Form 3/4/5 XML, attached to the filing row and billed per transaction): who traded, transaction code, shares, price per share and shares owned afterwards.
- Financial facts (
financial-fact-record): one row per XBRL concept (Revenues, NetIncomeLoss, Assets, Liabilities and others), each with the full time series the company reported. - Full-text search (
search-hit-record): search a phrase across every filer's filings, independent of any ticker.
An optional peer benchmark adds, for each financial concept, the reported values of other companies for the same fiscal year, sorted high to low.

Fields that have no value, or that belong to an option you did not switch on, are left out of the row instead of being filled with a placeholder.
๐ฒ How much does SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper cost?
Pay per event. You are charged only for rows that were saved to your dataset. Error rows, empty runs and runs that fail charge nothing.
| Event | What it is | Price (Free plan) |
|---|---|---|
filing-record | One filing | $0.015 |
insider-transaction-record | One parsed Form 3/4/5 transaction | $0.01 |
financial-fact-record | One XBRL concept time series for one company | $0.01 |
search-hit-record | One full-text search hit | $0.01 |
peer-benchmark-record | One peer company value | $0.01 |
Paid Apify plans get a small discount on the filing event. Example: 10 filings cost $0.15. The 10-item test run used for this README returned 10 filing rows. If you set a maximum total charge on the run, the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached and says so in the run status.
๐ How to scrape SEC EDGAR filings in 3 steps
- Open the Actor and enter a ticker (
AAPL), a company name or a CIK. Leave all lists empty to try the default (AAPL). - Pick form types (for example
10-K,10-Q,4) and the maximum number of rows. Switch on insider transactions, financial facts or peer benchmark only if you need them. - Click Start, then download the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON, or read it over the API.
โ๏ธ Input
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
tickers | Tickers or company names, resolved with SEC's own ticker list |
ciks | CIK numbers, any digit count, zero-padded for you |
forms | Keep only these form types. Empty means all |
maxPerCompany | Most recent filings per company (default 50) |
maxItems | Total rows to deliver (default 100). Free plan is limited to 10 |
includeInsiderTransactions | Parse Form 3/4/5 transactions (billed per transaction) |
includeFinancialFacts / financialConcepts | XBRL concepts to pull, as SEC us-gaap names |
includePeerBenchmark / maxPeers | Add other companies' values per concept |
searchQuery / searchForms / maxSearchHits | Full-text search across all filers |
Example input:
{ "tickers": ["AAPL"], "forms": ["10-K", "10-Q"], "maxItems": 10 }
๐ How does it compare with other SEC EDGAR scrapers on Apify?
Prices read from the public Apify Store listing on 2026-10-03:
| Actor | Filing price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| constructive_calm/sec-edgar-scraper | $0.0004 per filing + $0.01 per start | Also sells AI summaries and diffs |
| ryanclinton/edgar-filing-search | $0.002 per filing | Search only |
| This Actor | $0.015 per filing | Insider transactions parsed from Form 4 XML, XBRL series, peer benchmark, full-text search |
We are more expensive per filing row. What the extra buys: Form 3/4/5 transactions come back as structured numbers instead of a link to open by hand, and one Actor covers filings, XBRL facts, peers and search. If you only need a flat list of filings, a cheaper actor is the better fit.
๐ผ Use cases
- Insider-trading monitoring: schedule daily runs with
forms: ["4"]and insider transactions on. - Financial screening: pull revenue, net income and assets as time series for a watchlist.
- Compliance and research: search all filers for a risk phrase such as "going concern".
- Data products: feed structured SEC data into a dashboard without keeping your own EDGAR integration.
๐ How do I use SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper with the API and integrations?
Call it with the Apify API, the JavaScript or Python client, Make, Zapier or n8n, and schedule it on the platform. It is also available to AI agents through the Apify MCP server, where the input field descriptions explain each option.
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/RecordsData~sec-edgar-filings-scraper/runs?token=<YOUR_TOKEN>" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"tickers":["AAPL"],"forms":["10-K"],"maxItems":10}'
โ๏ธ Is it legal to scrape SEC EDGAR?
SEC EDGAR is public government data, and the SEC publishes these APIs for public use. The Actor sends the descriptive User-Agent with contact details that SEC's fair-access policy asks for, and it does not bypass any protection. You are responsible for how you use the data. This is an independent tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
โ FAQ
Does it parse Form 4 data or only list the filings? It opens the raw XML and returns owner, transaction code, shares, price and shares owned afterwards.
Why did I get 0 results? The ticker or CIK did not resolve, your form filter matched nothing, or the search had no hits. The run then ends as succeeded with a status message and charges nothing. If SEC EDGAR itself cannot be reached the run fails with a clear message and also charges nothing.
Why is the peerBenchmark field missing on some fact rows?
The benchmark uses SEC's XBRL Frames data for flow concepts such as Revenues or NetIncomeLoss. Balance-sheet concepts such as Assets have no peer data, so the field is left out and no peer event is charged.
Why does Apple's Revenues series stop in 2018?
Many large filers moved to the tag RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax after ASC 606. Add that concept to financialConcepts to get the newer series.
Can I filter the full-text search by date? Not in this version: SEC's date-range parameters returned server errors in testing. Use a narrower phrase or a form filter.
Do I need a login or API key? No.
How fresh is the data? As fresh as SEC EDGAR. New filings usually appear within minutes of filing.
What if I hit my spending limit? The Actor stops cleanly at your maximum total charge and reports it in the run status.
