๐ŸŽฎ Steam Scraper: Reviews, Achievements, News & Players

Steam Scraper pulls game details, user reviews, achievement unlock rates, live player counts and news or patch notes for any Steam game, from an App ID or a game name. It reads Valve's own public Store and Web APIs, so it needs no login, no browser and no API key. Export the dataset as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML, or call it by API.

Steam Scraper turns a Steam App ID like 730 (Counter-Strike 2) or a game name like Stardew Valley into structured rows. One run can return the store record (price, genres, platforms, developers, Metacritic score, DLC count), up to 100 of the most recent reviews per game, every achievement's global unlock percentage (49 rows for Stardew Valley), a live concurrent-player snapshot and up to 20 recent news items. Each row carries a recordType field, so you can filter one dataset into clean tables.

๐Ÿ“‹ What does Steam Scraper do?

Steam Scraper collects five public data types from Valve's endpoints and one optional extra:

  • Game details from the Store appdetails API: name, type, price and currency, discount, release date, developers, publishers, genres, categories, platforms, Metacritic score, DLC count and short description.
  • Reviews from appreviews: review text, thumbs up or down, hours played, language, author and date. Empty and duplicate reviews are skipped before billing.
  • Achievement stats: the global unlock percentage of every achievement.
  • Live player count: current concurrent players, one snapshot per game. Schedule runs to build a history.
  • News: recent announcements and patch notes with title, link, author, text and date.
  • Achievement schema (optional): full achievement names, descriptions and icons. This one needs your own free Steam Web API key.

Prices are pinned to USD (cc=us) and English, so results do not change with the country the run starts from.

๐Ÿ“Š What data can I extract from Steam?

๐Ÿงช What does the Steam Scraper output look like?

A real game-record row from a run on Stardew Valley (App ID 413150). Rows for other record types carry only the fields that apply to them, so there are no empty columns:

{
"imageUrl": "https://shared.akamai.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/413150/header.jpg",
"recordType": "game-record",
"appId": 413150,
"name": "Stardew Valley",
"type": "game",
"isFree": "No",
"priceCurrency": "USD",
"priceFinal": "10.49",
"discountPercent": 30,
"releaseDate": "Feb 26, 2016",
"comingSoon": "No",
"developers": "ConcernedApe",
"publishers": "ConcernedApe",
"genres": "Indie, RPG, Simulation",
"platforms": "windows, mac, linux",
"metacriticScore": 89,
"dlcCount": 1,
"shortDescription": "You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley...",
"scrapedAt": "2026-10-04T04:42:02.745Z"
}

A real player-count-record and achievement-stats-record from the same run:

{ "recordType": "player-count-record", "appId": 413150, "gameName": "Stardew Valley", "currentPlayers": 54008 }
{ "recordType": "achievement-stats-record", "appId": 413150, "gameName": "Stardew Valley", "achievementName": "a0", "globalUnlockPercent": "62.7" }

When Valve has no value for a field (for example a price on a free-to-play game), the field is "N/A", so you can tell "missing at the source" from a bug.

๐Ÿ’ฐ How much does it cost to scrape Steam?

The Actor uses pay-per-event pricing. You pay only for rows that are saved to your dataset. Error rows, "game not found" rows and empty results are never billed. Prices at the Free plan tier (paid plans get lower rates):

EventPrice per rowPer 1,000 rows
game-record$0.012$12.00
review-record$0.01$10.00
achievement-stats-record$0.01$10.00
player-count-record$0.01$10.00
news-record$0.01$10.00
achievement-schema-record$0.01$10.00

Worked example, measured on Stardew Valley with every extra switched on: 1 game row, 100 reviews, 49 achievement rows, 1 player count and 20 news items, 171 rows in total, about $1.71 at the Free tier. A single game record with reviews turned off costs $0.012.

Set Max Items to cap the total number of rows, or set a maximum cost per run in Apify. The Actor stops cleanly when your limit is reached and says so in the run status. Free users are limited to 10 items per run.

๐Ÿš€ How to scrape Steam in 3 steps

  1. Open the Actor and enter one or more Steam App IDs (from store.steampowered.com/app/{id}) or game names.
  2. Switch on the extras you need: reviews, achievement stats, live player count, news. Set Max Items.
  3. Click Start, then download the dataset as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML, or fetch it through the API.

โš™๏ธ Input

FieldTypeWhat it does
appIdslist of stringsNumeric Steam App IDs, for example 730.
gameNameslist of stringsNames resolved to an App ID through Steam search (top match).
maxItemsintegerTotal rows across all record types. Free users: 10.
includeReviewsbooleanIndividual user reviews. Default on.
includeAchievementStatsbooleanGlobal unlock percentage per achievement.
includePlayerCountbooleanLive concurrent players.
includeNewsbooleanRecent news and patch notes.
steamApiKeysecret stringOptional. Your own free key adds the achievement schema.

Give at least one App ID or game name. A run with neither fails immediately with a clear message and charges nothing.

Example input:

{
"appIds": ["730"],
"gameNames": ["Stardew Valley"],
"includeReviews": true,
"includePlayerCount": true,
"maxItems": 50
}

๐Ÿ“ค Output

Every row goes to the default dataset and has recordType, appId and scrapedAt. The Output tab has an overview table, and the full dataset downloads as JSON, CSV, Excel or XML. If an App ID is not found or was removed from Steam, you get one row with an error message for that ID and the run continues with the rest. That row is free.

๐Ÿ“ˆ How does it compare with other Steam scrapers on Apify?

Prices below were read from the public Apify Store on 2026-10-03, at the Free tier:

ActorWhat it returnsPrice read from Store
This ActorGames, reviews, achievements, player counts, news$0.012 per game, $0.01 per other row
bovi/steam-scraperGames$0.00205 per game
automation-lab/steam-game-reviews-scraperReviews$0.000575 per review + $0.003 start
memo23/steam-reviews-scraperReviews$0.001 per review + $0.005 start

On price per row, single-purpose actors are cheaper, and we do not claim otherwise. What this Actor offers is breadth in one run and one schema: live player counts, achievement unlock rates and news next to game details and reviews, so you do not stitch together three or four actors. If you only need reviews at very high volume, a review-only actor may cost less.

๐ŸŽฏ Steam scraper use cases

  • Market research: track prices, discounts, genres and Metacritic scores across a competitive set.
  • Player-count tracking: schedule hourly runs with includePlayerCount to chart a launch or a sale.
  • Sentiment analysis: pull review text, recommendation and hours played, then feed it to your model.
  • Patch monitoring: watch the news feed of a game for update cadence.
  • Achievement tools: use global unlock percentages to rank the rarest achievements.

๐Ÿ”Œ How do I use Steam Scraper through the API and integrations?

Call it with the Apify API or client libraries:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/RecordsData~steam-games-player-stats/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"appIds":["730"],"includePlayerCount":true,"maxItems":10}'

It also works with Zapier, Make, n8n, Google Sheets and Airbyte, and as a tool for AI agents through the Apify MCP server. Use schedules to collect snapshots over time.

Steam Scraper reads public endpoints that Valve publishes for the Store and Web API. It collects only public game, review, achievement and news data, not private profiles or accounts. Reviews contain public usernames, so handle them under the privacy rules that apply to you (such as GDPR). You are responsible for using the data in line with Valve's terms. This Actor is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Valve Corporation or Steam.

โ“ Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Steam API key? No, not for game details, reviews, achievement stats, player counts or news. Only the optional achievement schema needs your own free key from steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey.

Can I search by game name instead of App ID? Yes. Enter a name in gameNames and the Actor resolves it with Steam search. The top match is used, so prefer an App ID when names are ambiguous.

Why did I get 0 results? The App ID or name did not match a game, or the game was removed from Steam. You get an error row for that ID, and nothing is charged. If Steam itself could not be reached, the run fails with a message instead of ending empty.

Why are some achievement names codes like a0? Valve's free endpoint returns the internal name the developer set. Counter-Strike 2 uses readable names such as PLAY_CS2, Stardew Valley uses a0. Add your own Steam key to get the readable display name and description.

How many reviews do I get per game? Up to the 100 most recent reviews in all languages, minus empty or duplicate ones.

How fresh is the player count? It is live at the moment of the run. Schedule runs to build a history.

Am I charged for failed or empty rows? No. Only saved rows with a valid payload are billed.

What currency are prices in? USD. The request is pinned to the US store so results are stable.

Why does my free run stop at 10 items? Free plan runs are limited to 10 items. Paid plans can set any maxItems.
