FOSDEM Sponsor Company Directory (2025–2026) — Licensed Public Sources

Convert official public FOSDEM sponsor-company pages into structured, source-attributed company-role records. This is a narrow, verifiable launch version, not a generic event scraper.

Scope: company sponsors only. No exhibitors yet. No Eventbrite attendees, ticket buyers, private pages, participant databases, arbitrary organizers, authentication, CAPTCHA, proxies, personal data, LinkedIn crawling or contact enrichment. Unsupported URLs fail with an explanatory message and produce no misleading records.

• eventUrl (required): event home page or sponsor page from the two reviewed official editions.
• maxResults: integer, 1–250, default 100. Limits company-role dataset rows.

Output — Dataset

Each row contains eventName, eventStartDate, eventEndDate, companyName, role (sponsor for v1), companyId, directoryUrl (official entry anchor), sourceUrl, companyWebsite (as published in official listing), socialMediaUrls (only links directly published in listing; otherwise []), sourceLicense, sourceLicenseUrl, attribution, fetchedAt.

Dataset deduplication is by normalized company + role, preserving a company’s relationship to multiple roles when supported in later versions. The default key-value store AUDIT provides source, result count, time, page size and HTTP request count.

Quality controls

• Strict official domain, year and path allowlist; never request user-specified arbitrary hosts.
• Check robots.txt and footer license every run, fail closed if prohibited/changed.
• Timeout, 1MB response cap, transparent errors for bad URL, blocked source and layout changes.
• Exactly one official sponsor page fetched per run (plus robots check); no third-party requests or stealth access.
• Unit tests: python -m unittest discover -s tests -v.
• Manual comparison: python tests/live_compare.py; compares all ten 2025 companies with official directory, four website spot checks, and writes a JSON report.

Public paid pricing & measured cloud usage (2026-10-08)

Pricing model: pay per event, $0.01 per deduplicated dataset company-role record (apify-default-dataset-item), no Actor-start charge. Unsupported URLs write no data, so trigger 0 chargeable events. The charge event price is fixed in USD; subscription-tier discounts may affect actual billing. The API confirmed isPublic=true, pricingModel=PAY_PER_EVENT and the dataset-item event at $0.01.

Measured platform usage with 256 MB RAM:

• FOSDEM 2025: 10 records, 3.189s cloud runtime, 0.000221458 compute units, platform usage $0.00020015 (before PPE configured).
• FOSDEM 2026: 14 records, 2.080s cloud runtime, 0.000144444 compute units, platform usage $0.00020462; 14 chargeable dataset events (list price $0.14 before discounts).

Use

Docker base python:3.12-slim and Apify Python SDK. Actor accepts user input, stores results in the default dataset, and writes an AUDIT record to default key-value store. Source HTML changes or licenses being removed cause an error, not fabricated results.
