Rotten Tomatoes Scraper

Movies and TV shows from Rotten Tomatoes — Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores, Certified Fresh, critics consensus, cast, crew, box office and where to watch — from title pages and browse grids, as clean JSON.

Rotten Tomatoes is where audiences check what critics and fellow viewers think before they buy a ticket or press play, which makes its scores one of the most watched signals in entertainment. This Actor scrapes Rotten Tomatoes movies and TV shows from title pages or browse grids and returns one record per title: the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores with their counts and averages, the Certified Fresh and Verified Hot badges, the Top Critics score, the critics consensus, title, year, rating and its reasons, genres, runtime, original language, theatrical and streaming release dates, director, writers, producers, distributor and production companies, US box office, synopsis, top-billed cast with characters, the poster and trailer, and where to watch, plus seasons and episodes for TV. Paste movie, series or season pages, or a browse page such as Popular Movies at Home with any filters; switch on reviews to add the critic and audience reviews shown on each title's page. No login. Built for studios, distributors and streaming teams, entertainment marketers and analysts, data journalists, and anyone building on film and TV data.

maxReviewsintegerno6Critic reviews and audience reviews to add per title, from 1 to 6 each (a title page shows up to 6 of each).

proxyConfigurationobjectno{ "useApifyProxy": false }Proxy settings. Rotten Tomatoes' public pages work without a proxy.

Which pages work. Movie, series and season pages, and the four browse grids (Movies in Theaters, Movies at Home, Coming Soon, TV Shows) with any combination of filters and sort order. Links to a title's sub-pages (reviews, cast and crew, an episode) resolve to the movie, series or season itself. Browse grids are read page by page until maxItems is reached. Search results are not supported: paste the title or a filtered browse page instead.

📤 Output

Each movie, series or season is one dataset row. Titles from a browse page keep the grid's order and carry their position as listRank. reviews is null unless includeReviews is on.

💡 Use cases

  • Release tracking — follow how a new movie or season scores with critics and audiences week by week, and when it turns Certified Fresh.
  • Acquisition and programming research — rank a filtered browse page, such as the best comedies on a streaming service, by Tomatometer and Popcornmeter before licensing.
  • Entertainment marketing — compare a title's critic and audience scores, consensus and box office with its competition.
  • Data products and journalism — build datasets of scores, credits, release dates and where to watch across thousands of titles.

❓ FAQ

  • Do I need a Rotten Tomatoes account? No. The Actor reads the same public pages anyone can open.
  • Do I need a proxy? No. It runs without one by default.
  • How many reviews can I get per title? Up to 6 critic reviews and 6 audience reviews: the ones Rotten Tomatoes shows on the title's own page, with the critic's verdict, outlet and a link to the full review.
  • Why is the Popcornmeter sometimes "verified" and sometimes "all"? For movies released in US theaters, Rotten Tomatoes scores only verified ticket buyers; other titles count every rating. popcornmeterType tells you which, and allAudiencePopcornmeter always gives the all-ratings score.
  • Why are the scores empty for some titles? Upcoming titles, and titles with too few reviews, have no Tomatometer or Popcornmeter yet; those fields are null.
  • Can I search by title? No. Paste the title's page, or a browse page filtered by genre, service or rating.
