What does Instagram Profile Scraper do?

๐Ÿ’ฐ $1/1K โ€” Instagram Profile Scraper returns one row for any public account on instagram.com, without a login and without a session cookie. Each row carries the follower, following and post counts, the full name and biography with every bio link and the label the account displays on it, the category and verification flags, the public business contact block (email, phone, address), and engagement averaged over the account's own recent posts โ€” average likes, average comments and an engagement rate derived from them. All of it arrives in one public request per handle in the normal case, which is why it costs what it costs.

Follower lists are not readable without a logged-in session, so the engagement figures come from the account's public posts rather than from its follower base. Every row carries a status, and any count the run could not measure is null rather than zero โ€” an account that could not be read is never charged.

How to use this actor

  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Register for a free Apify account โ€” no credit card required.
  • ๐ŸŽ‰ Just click Sign up free on Apify โ†’ and complete a quick signup.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ A free Apify account includes $5 in monthly credits โ€” enough to test this actor.
  • โณ Scrape during the free trial, with no commitment or upfront payment required.

Key features

  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ $1 per 1,000 profiles: no login and no session cookie, and one public request per account in the normal case - a small share of business accounts need a second, and you are charged for neither the retry nor the second read. Rivals on this surface charge $0.70 to $50.00 per 1,000; the median is $2.50.
  • ๐Ÿ‘ค The whole public profile in one row: follower, following, post and long-form-video counts, full name, biography, category, verification and privacy flags, and the profile picture in both sizes.
  • ๐Ÿ“‡ Business contact block: the email, phone and address an account publishes on its profile - the same request, no extra fetch, no enrichment step.
  • ๐Ÿ”— Bio links with their labels: every link in the bio, each with the title the account displays on it and its link type. A bare URL list throws the label away.
  • ๐Ÿ“Š Engagement without a second call: average likes, average comments and an engagement rate, computed over the posts the profile response already carries. A post whose counts are missing is not counted as zero - it does not contribute, and it does not inflate the basis.
  • ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Recent posts, opt-in: add the 12 most recent posts with caption, likes, comments, view count, hashtags, mentions and tagged users. Off by default because it makes each record substantially larger.
  • ๐Ÿงญ status on every row: ok, private, not_found or not_fetched. Any count the run could not measure is null, never 0 - and an account that could not be read is not charged and not delivered, so a row you receive is a row that was actually read.
  • ๐Ÿ” Change tracking that does not bill you for noise: follower counts move on any live account, so they are deliberately excluded from what counts as a change. Name, biography, bio links, category, contact details and the account id are what is tracked.
  • ๐Ÿ”€ Usernames or URLs: type handles, paste profile URLs, or mix both. @name, name and https://instagram.com/name/ all resolve to the same account and share one history.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Compact mode: AI-agent and MCP-friendly payloads with core fields only - including status, so a compact row still says whether its numbers mean anything.
  • ๐Ÿ”” Notifications: Telegram, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp Cloud API and a generic webhook out of the box. Pair with change tracking for alerts when a watched account renames, rewrites its bio or swaps its link in bio.

What data can you extract from instagram.com?

Each result includes Core listing fields (listingId, listingKey, searchQuery, contentQuality, scrapedAt, url, portalUrl, and changeType, and more), detail fields when enrichment is enabled (detailFetched), and contact information (businessEmail, businessPhoneNumber, businessContactMethod, and extractedEmails). In standard mode, all fields are always present โ€” unavailable data points are returned as null, never omitted. In compact mode, only core fields are returned.

Enable detail enrichment in the input to get richer fields such as contact information where the source provides them.

Input

The main inputs are a search keyword and a result limit. Additional filters and options are available in the input schema.

Key parameters:

  • query โ€” One or more Instagram usernames. A pasted profile URL or an @handle works too โ€” both are normalised to the bare username. For several accounts in one run, paste a JSON array as text: ["nasa", "natgeo"].
  • startUrls โ€” Instagram profile URLs to scrape, as an alternative to typing usernames. (default: [])
  • maxResults โ€” Maximum total results (0 = unlimited). (default: 25)
  • includeDetails โ€” Fetch each account's public profile. Off returns only the resolved username and URL. Incremental mode turns this back on by itself - there is nothing to compare between runs without it. (default: true)
  • includeRecentPosts โ€” Add the account's 12 most recent posts (caption, likes, comments, views, URL) to each row. They arrive in the same request, so this costs nothing extra to fetch โ€” but it makes each record substantially larger. Off by default. (default: false)
  • descriptionMaxLength โ€” Truncate the biography and each post caption to this many characters. 0 = no cap. Useful for LLM pipelines and for keeping records small. (default: 0)
  • compact โ€” Core fields only (for AI-agent/MCP workflows). (default: false)
  • incrementalMode โ€” Compare each run against the previous one and emit only what changed. All runs of this actor share ONE history by default - that is what stops an edit to your username list from re-billing every account you kept. Set State Key to keep separate watchlists apart. (default: false)
  • stateKey โ€” Optional. Names the history a run reads and writes. Leave it empty and every run shares one history. Set it to a different value per watchlist when you want two lists tracked independently.
  • telegramToken โ€” Telegram bot token (from @BotFather). Required for Telegram notifications.
  • telegramChatId โ€” Telegram chat or channel ID (e.g. "-100123456789"). Required when telegramToken is set.
  • discordWebhookUrl โ€” Discord incoming webhook URL. Server Settings โ†’ Integrations โ†’ Webhooks โ†’ New Webhook.
  • ...and 12 more parameters

Input examples

Basic search โ€” Keyword-driven search with a result cap.

โ†’ Full payload per result โ€” all standard fields populated where the source provides them.

{
"query": "nasa",
"maxResults": 50
}

Incremental tracking โ€” Only emit listings that changed since the previous run with this stateKey.

โ†’ First run builds the baseline state. Subsequent runs emit only records that are new or whose tracked content changed. Set emitUnchanged: true to include unchanged records as well.

{
"query": "nasa",
"maxResults": 200,
"incrementalMode": true,
"stateKey": "nasa-tracker"
}

Compact output for AI agents โ€” Return only core fields for AI-agent and MCP workflows.

โ†’ Small payload with the most important fields โ€” ideal for piping into LLMs without token overhead.

{
"query": "nasa",
"maxResults": 50,
"compact": true
}

Output

Each run produces a dataset of structured listing records. Results can be downloaded as JSON, CSV, or Excel from the Dataset tab in Apify Console.

Incremental fields

Set incrementalMode and every run after the first emits only what changed. Each record carries a changeType:

ValueMeaning
NEWfirst time this account has been seen under this state
UPDATEDa tracked field changed since the last run
UNCHANGEDnothing tracked changed - suppressed unless you set emitUnchanged

Those three are the whole set. There is no "disappeared" classification and no "came back" one either, on purpose - and the two are the same fact. The universe this actor sees is your own list of usernames, never Instagram's, so an account missing from a run is one you stopped asking about - not one that went away. An account that really is gone is reported on its own row as status: not_found. Nothing is ever marked absent, so nothing can be marked returned either; an account you stop and later resume asking about simply keeps its history, and reads as UNCHANGED if it did not change while you were away.

Follower, following and post counts are deliberately not tracked fields: they move on any live account, so tracking them would mark every profile as changed on every run and charge you for it. What is tracked is the account's identity and posture - name, biography, bio links, category, business contact details, verified and private flags, and the account id itself.

How to scrape instagram.com

  1. Go to Instagram Profile Scraper in Apify Console.
  2. Enter a search keyword.
  3. Set maxResults to control how many results you need.
  4. Enable includeDetails if you need contact info.
  5. Click Start and wait for the run to finish.
  6. Export the dataset as JSON, CSV, or Excel.

Use cases

  • Extract listing data from instagram.com for market research and competitive analysis.
  • Monitor new and changed listings on scheduled runs without processing the full dataset every time.
  • Use structured location data for regional analysis, mapping, and geo-targeting.
  • Feed structured data into AI agents, MCP tools, and automated pipelines using compact mode.
  • Export clean, structured data to dashboards, spreadsheets, or data warehouses.

How much does it cost to scrape instagram.com?

Instagram Profile Scraper uses pay-per-event pricing. You pay a small fee when the run starts and then for each result that is actually produced.

  • Run start: $0.01 per run
  • Per result: $0.001 per listing record

Example costs:

  • 10 results: $0.02
  • 25 results: $0.035
  • 100 results: $0.11
  • 200 results: $0.21
  • 500 results: $0.51

Example: recurring monitoring savings

These examples compare full re-scrapes with incremental runs at different churn rates. Churn is the share of listings that are new or whose tracked content changed since the previous run. Actual churn depends on your query breadth, source activity, and polling frequency โ€” the scenarios below are examples, not predictions.

Example setup: 100 listings per run, daily polling (30 runs/month). Costs scale linearly with the number of listings.

Churn rateFull re-scrape run costIncremental run costSavings vs full re-scrapeMonthly cost after baseline
5% โ€” stable niche query$0.11$0.01$0.10 (86%)$0.45
15% โ€” moderate broad query$0.11$0.03$0.08 (77%)$0.75
30% โ€” high-volume aggregator$0.11$0.04$0.07 (64%)$1.20

Full re-scrape monthly cost at the same cadence: $3.30. First month with incremental costs $0.55 / $0.84 / $1.27 for the 5% / 15% / 30% scenarios because the first run builds baseline state at full cost before incremental savings apply.

Platform usage is included in the per-result fee shown above.

FAQ

How many results can I get from instagram.com?

The number of results depends on the search query and available listings on instagram.com. Use the maxResults parameter to control how many results are returned per run.

Does Instagram Profile Scraper support recurring monitoring?

Yes. Enable incremental mode to only receive new or changed listings on subsequent runs. This is ideal for scheduled monitoring where you want to track changes over time without re-processing the full dataset.

Can I integrate Instagram Profile Scraper with other apps?

Yes. Instagram Profile Scraper works with Apify's integrations to connect with tools like Zapier, Make, Google Sheets, Slack, and more. You can also use webhooks to trigger actions when a run completes.

Can I use Instagram Profile Scraper with the Apify API?

Yes. You can start runs, manage inputs, and retrieve results programmatically through the Apify API. Client libraries are available for JavaScript, Python, and other languages.

Can I use Instagram Profile Scraper through an MCP Server?

Yes. Apify provides an MCP Server that lets AI assistants and agents call this actor directly. Use compact mode, descriptionMaxLength, and excludeEmptyFields to keep payloads manageable for LLM context windows.
