Data is sourced from GOV.UK's published management information files, updated monthly. No authentication required.

What data you get

Every school record includes:

• Identity: URN, LAESTAB, school name, phase (Primary / Secondary / Nursery etc.), type of education
• Location: local authority, region, Ofsted region, parliamentary constituency, postcode
• Size: total pupils, age range (statutory lowest/highest age)
• Trust: multi-academy trust name (if applicable)
• Latest inspection: date, type (S5, S8 etc.), publication date
• Report card grades (November 2025 framework):
  • Safeguarding standards (Met / Not met)
  • Inclusion
  • Curriculum and teaching
  • Achievement
  • Attendance and behaviour
  • Personal development and wellbeing
  • Early years (where applicable)
• Direct link to the Ofsted inspection report

Note on grades: Ofsted introduced a new inspection framework in November 2025. Schools inspected since then receive report card grades instead of the old single-word "Outstanding/Good/Requires Improvement/Inadequate" judgements. The new scale is: Exceptional → Strong → Expected standard → Needs attention → Urgent improvement. Schools not yet inspected under the new framework will have null grades.

searchSchools

Filter the full 22,000+ school register by any combination of: name, local authority, region, or postcode prefix. Set maxResults: 0 to return all matching schools.

lookupUrns

Provide a list of school URNs (Unique Reference Numbers) and get the full record for each. Useful when you already have a list of schools to look up. URNs can be found on reports.ofsted.gov.uk.
