YouTube Downloader Actor: Successful Run, Download URL Invalid/Unplayable

Closed

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with the YouTube Downloader Actor. While the actor run indicates a successful completion and provides a download URL, the downloaded video file is not playable.

Specifically:

The actor run completes without errors. A download URL is generated (e.g., https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/yGtQaj90rgWiV62gV/records/gqEuMlqXED8.mp4). However, when attempting to play the downloaded .mp4 file, it fails to open or play in any media player. This happens for every video.

This happens for every video We attempt to download using this actor.

Could you please investigate this issue?

Thank you.

Update: Disabling the useFfmpeg flag resolves the issue of unplayable video files. However, this is not a viable long-term solution for us, as we require useFfmpeg to maintain video quality. Could you please investigate why useFfmpeg is causing the downloaded videos to be unplayable?

Hey there,

Thank you for reaching out, and letting us know about your inquiry. When the "useFfmpeg" value is set to true, we did not encounter any issues when downloading and playing the video from the storage tab. However, since you want to play the video using the media player, setting "useFfmpeg" to false in the input will prevent any playback issues with the media player.

Thanks,

MO

Hey there,

Thanks for your response. The issue is that the video isn't playable. You can verify this by opening the video from the storage of the attached run. Here is the link to the video we got: https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/yGtQaj90rgWiV62gV/records/gqEuMlqXED8.mp4.

This issue started happening recently. Could you please check if anything has changed on your end? If the video plays for you, please let me know how you're playing it.

Let us know if you need any further details. Thanks!

I also want to mention that for some videos, it’s still working as before - https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/u2cFp8gIqtqgoC36y/records/rYqXkX75vmY.mp4

Hi moshe.bareket,

We've checked the video, and the issue is related to how the actor processes videos when useFfmpeg is set to true. In this case, the video is encoded in a way that makes it playable in media players like VLC but not directly in a browser.

To ensure the videos remain playable in the browser, please set useFfmpeg to false. This way, the actor will generate videos with the same quality while keeping them compatible for direct playback.

Let us know if you need any further assistance!
